How to Stop Apologizing for Not Participating in The Program: Exploring Non-Traditional Recovery Options

SUMMARY

In this episode of the Sober Vibes podcast, Courtney Andersen, host, and sober coach, talks about the need to stop apologizing for not using the Twelve Steps or participating in the program. She explains that she had recorded an episode about this topic a while back and was only now airing it due to a scheduling conflict with her guest Sissy. She shares stories from guests and clients about apologizing for not participating in the program even if it no longer served them. Courtney is pro-program but also sees the need for updates and for the creeps to be kicked out. She encourages people to take what they want and leave the rest, and only to participate if it serves them.

The speaker is pro-people finding their own way to sobriety and not apologizing for whatever that route may look like. SHe emphasizes that recovery looks different for everyone, and people should find the best path for them. He gives examples of different paths people can take, such as working with a one-on-one coach or seeing an addiction specialist or therapist. He stresses that everyone's goal should be to make it to another day sober, and that is what matters most. He encourages people to find the route that best resonates with them and to not apologize for not following the “traditional” path.

The conversation is about finding the best avenue for recovery from addiction. It is important to find a therapist and a method of recovery that resonates with the individual. Everyone is different and therefore, different methods may work for different people. There are now more resources and options available than ever before. This can include talking to a group of strangers, meeting with a therapist, joining a recovery program, or attending sober events. It is important to find the recovery path that works for each individual, as it is not right to judge someone for not going down the same path as someone else.

In this conversation, the speaker touches upon the importance of accountability in sobriety and introduces Soberlink, a device designed to help people sustain sobriety and rebuild trust with loved ones. The device combines facial recognition, tamper detection, and real time results, so that friends and family can be sure that the user is staying sober. The speaker emphasizes that the device can be a great tool for accountability and encourages those interested to check out www.soberlink.com for more information and to receive $50 off their device.

As a sober coach, I really can't think of a better tool to maintain accountability, strengthen community, improve sobriety to loved ones. Now, you might be thinking like, do I really need this? And honestly, it's different for everybody.. I know quite a few people who have had to use this or something like this to prove to their spouses and or family members that they are sober. This does not just affect the person who is the drinker. I mean, a lot of damage happens during your active addiction and accountability needs to take place. And with this tool, you can show that. Let's make 2023 a memorable one. Please visit www.soberlink.com

Now imagine none of your closest friends or family believe you. This is why I'm sharing this, because early on in my sobriety, there was a couple of times Matt didn't believe that I was sober. So much trust is lost during active addiction, and it can be hard to convince loved ones that things are different, that you're different. This is where soberlink can help. Soberlink's remote alcohol monitoring system is designed to help you sustain a sober lifestyle while rebuilding trust with loved ones small enough to fit in your purse or pocket and discreet enough to use in public.
