Episode 127: How CBD can help in Your Sobriety and Recovery Journey with Thomas White
CBD Expert Thomas White: 14 Years in Sobriety & How His Business Helps Those Struggling With Addiction.
Courtney Andersen, host of the Sober Vibes podcast, is joined by guest Thomas White, founder and president of Exact Nature, a CBD company geared towards people in recovery and sobriety. Thomas shares how he has used CBD oil for the past four to five years to help with depression after prescription medications no longer worked for him. Courtney shares her own experiences with CBD in her sobriety and recovery and explains the benefits of CBD as part of a holistic path. She also encourages listeners to join The Fix, a personal development community for sober and sober curious women, which offers monthly meetings and a book club.
Thomas recently celebrated 14 years of sobriety. He had a successful career in marketing for companies like Seagrams and the Peace Corps, but his drinking was getting out of control, and he got a second DUI. After that, he went to treatment and relapsed multiple times in the first year, but eventually found his footing and is now sober.
Thomas was discussing his experience of becoming sober after going through rehab. He learned how to be sober, and after 14 years of continuous sobriety, he is still sober today. He was also discussing his son's experience with addiction and how he had sent him to wilderness therapy programs to help him overcome his addiction. The wilderness therapy programs would strip away the modern amenities and help build them back up. He emphasized the importance of relapse not being a past failure but rather a learning experience and an opportunity to relearn how to live as a grown adult.
The conversation focuses on Thoma's journey of overcoming addiction. He in question was able to recognize that he needed to go to rehab and make a change in his life after getting his second DUI. Now, he is doing well and is an addict through and through. He has founded a company and contributes a lot to the table. His point of view is important to what they are doing. The person recognizes that alcohol is very socially accepted and easy to access, but its consequences caught up with him eventually. He has been able to make a positive transition to sobriety, which has become a new way of life for him.

HIGHLIGHTS
Definitely got to give it a month to see with anything. Whether you start working back out, if you're prescribed a medication, you start eating healthier, you have to wait at least 30 days for all of this stuff to see what has happened. Well, I love it. Thank you, though, for sharing everything with us today and your knowledge of CBD. So one way for people to start using in their sobriety is obviously too. You can find all of Thomas's information below. And of course, Exact Nature is sponsoring the podcast this month and in the month of May.
That's a very good approach, for sure. We recommend starting with one full dropper, but if that's too much, then yes, back up. Back off of it. For our other products we take, for instance, we just started selling these soft gels, and soft gels come in 25 or 50 milligrams per soft gel. I recommend taking those two during the day. At night, I recommend 125 milligram or one dropperful, which is 25 milligrams to start with. And then you can adjust it as you feel it merits it.
I use Serenity every day. Every day we have different products. Detox is aimed, it's generally higher concentrations of CBD, which I think people that are facing recovery or an early Sobriety, that's a really good product because the more of it you can get in your body, the better. I take Serenity now, which has low doses of THC in it, but that's what I use every day as a Serenity products. And then I take the oil. But we also sell a soft gel that you can take before going to bed. And the way it works too, is CBD in and of itself, it's a relaxant, but it's not a sedative.
One thing I'll say is, for me, I don't have the daily temptations. So CBD can help with cravings, for sure. It can help with alcohol cravings. It can help with certainly they've shown it to help with opioid reductions. Now the FDA has approved studies for CBD to be used and help with people that have opioid addictions. It can help with cocaine addictions, but it can also help with things like smoking and so on. I've seen a fair amount of research recently how it helps with that. So it's to their detriment that this stigmatization exists.
In the case of addiction issues, what it does is by bringing your body back into equilibrium, it can help break that psychological bridge that minimizes the visual cues and other cues that we have that can lead us to drink and can lead us towards those intoxicating substances. So it breaks that psychological bridge, minimizes those cues and allows us to heal. If you're feeling better then all of a sudden you can focus on those other things in life that are so important.
