Dear Divorce Diary: A Fresh Approach To Healing Grief & Building A Life Of Confidence After Divorce
We are on a journey to get into the nitty gritty of divorce recovery and reveal why your divorce healing journey is still not working for you–even after you’ve tried therapy and read all the books.
Let's transform your pain into strength and take charge of your own narrative. Now’s the time we reclaim your healing journey–and why exactly we struggle to not only heal from past traumas but move beyond them to the ultimate goal: inner peace. That is real self-empowerment, and this is Dear Divorce Diary.
I’m Dawn Wiggins, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and EMDR specialist. I draw on decades of experience to help women navigate the emotional rollercoaster after ending a marriage. Using a little bit of science, a few alternative remedies and emotional release techniques, a whole lot of love, and zero BS, we step out of the victim mindset and into building a new life after divorce.
We emphasize nuance because overcoming challenges after divorce means questioning everything that got us here and using your divorce as a springboard to a better, more resilient (and certainly happier!) you.
On Tuesday, we have our listener segment called: "Getting Unstuck," where we anonymously unpack a difficult situation a listener is going through in their divorce healing journey.
And, on Thursday, we explore a "Hidden Healing Gem," which is a healing product or process we've tried and tested personally and/or professionally and are sharing our results and observations with you!
We cover essential life after divorce topics like grief, anxiety, codependency, loneliness, boundaries, nervous system health, attachment styles, the Law of Attraction, and homeopathy.
Join us twice a week as we go beyond talk therapy to process your grief, find the healing you crave, and rebuild your confidence.

Divorce is a period of time where it's very hard to feel grounded because everything is shifting and changing. Here's a tool that I use on a regular basis to enhance sleep quality and grounding in my root chakra. Hi love, welcome to Dear Divorce Diary, the podcast helping divorcees go beyond talk therapy to process your grief, find the healing you crave and build back your confidence. I'm your host, dawn Wiggins, a therapist, coach, integrative healer and divorcee. Join me for a fresh approach to healing grief and building your confidence after divorce. All right, let's talk about this tool that I use and where I learned about it, the results I get from it and why I keep it as part of my go-to sleep kit.
Speaker 1:The resource is the essential oil cedarwood. Cedarwood is a very grounding essential oil that helps really soothe and ground that root chakra. Now, one of the things you will notice about cedarwood, if you've ever used it, is it smells like cat pee. Maybe you don't feel like it smells like cat pee, but I think that very often we love essential oils because they smell so good and you know, it's just like a good vibe to use an essential oil. But this is not one that I use because I enjoy the quality of its smell. It's one that was recommended several years ago by a functional medicine practitioner, and she explained that when you put cedarwood on the bottoms of your feet, and especially for sleep, you will have a more grounded, better quality sleep. Now, one of the things about essential oils in general is that they are thought to be adaptogenic, just like many of the mushrooms that we see all over our Instagram feeds, like reishi and chaga and lion's mane or whatever, and what it means for something to be adaptogenic is that it helps your nervous system adapt under periods of stress. Boy, is that the thing that you need? Right? And very often, many of you will DM me and say like, oh, what do you think about this mushroom product? And I often sort of say like, maybe you know, because I think that the quality of the supplements that we use is highly sus. When Instagram is selling us things, I'm very picky about which supplements I do recommend or use.
Speaker 1:But cedarwood if assuming it's a high quality oil and high quality doesn't have to mean expensive I love going to our local health food store and picking up a bottle of whatever brand they have in stock stock there I think it's often now the now brand, you know, and spending like 15 a bottle. Do I love some of those other bougie brands that you know are ml? Yes, absolutely, I own them, I have them, I love them. But not everything that is more expensive necessarily is better, and so I love, love, love how grounding Cedarwood is and don't love how it smells. But if you put it on the bottom of your feet, your feet are at the bottom of your body right Like, so they're not right next to you when you sleep. But it truly truly has been a game changer at many stages of my life where it's been high stress or I have struggled with feeling grounded. Now, some other ways that you know that you might be struggling with feeling grounded is, you know, if your mind is racing and you just sort of can't get it to calm down, if you notice yourself worrying a lot. A lot of urinary issues are tied to not being grounded. Kidney and bladder stuff is also sort of in a similar realm, and so if you find yourself falling asleep or struggling to fall asleep because your mind is racing, or noticing that your sleep doesn't feel restful, that you're sleeping really lightly, this may be something to exploreful. That you're sleeping really lightly, this may be something to explore Now.
Speaker 1:Do you remember the episode I did recently on muscle testing and also I showed you how to muscle test on Instagram? If you haven't watched that reel, it's cute. It's producer Joy and I with a bottle of tequila. Here's a way to consider whether or not you should even bother spending the money on Cedarwood. You could go to your local health food store or Whole Foods or wherever, right, and you couldn't just like me standing in the aisle of the Target trying to decide which red blend was going to be the best for my health, right? Take a friend with you and go muscle test, or have I have before been in the health food store and asked the health food store employee to muscle test me for certain things that I've considered purchasing? I think we have to care more about our results than we care about what people think about us, right? So don't just hop on Instagram. I mean on Amazon. I will put a link to Cedarwood in the show notes, right, but don't just necessarily hop on and be like oh, dawn said to buy it, let's buy it.
Speaker 1:This is a consideration for you to put in your toolkit, and I want you to really get in the habit of checking out. Is this tool a tool that my body is calling for right now? I can sort of tell these days when I need the cedar wood when I know right, and it has really enhanced many, many, many, many times. It has enhanced the quality, allowed me to have a deeper, more restful sleep. But check it out for yourself, because when you check it out for yourself with muscle testing, you're going to start to build your confidence around being able to assess and decide what your body needs, and that confidence building is so, so, so important to love. So if you have a sense that your root chakra is not grounded it probably isn't right now right, there are so many tools that will help you have a more groundedness. Go check out and see whether or not cedarwood could help your quality of sleep. Dear Divorce Diary is a podcast by my coach, dawn. You can find more at mycoachdawncom.
