MM Ep 32: Bloom Where You Are

Aaron Degler

We share a lighthearted story about purple lilies that turns into a clear lesson on growth: you might not be failing to bloom, you might be standing in the shade. We explore how small acts of pruning help let the light back in so you can grow where you are.

• why effort sometimes fails without sunlight
• the hidden cost of shade from roles, habits, and noise
• how to spot shadows by looking up, not just within
• practical pruning: boundaries, subtraction, and gentle noes
• small changes that invite clarity, energy, and bloom
• a weekly light audit to identify what blocks growth

SPEAKER_00:

Welcome back to a mindful moment. Thank you for taking a little time to join me today. I was visiting with a client last week, and we're talking about purple lilies. And why were we talking about purple purple lilies? Because she was commenting that she's working at the church and she was working on the flower beds at her church. And as she looked across the street, she saw these purple lilies all around this house. And this house was for sale. And so she may have crossed the street, looked around, and grabbed a few to take to her house. And so I was kind of giving her a hard time about isn't that kind of ironic that you're working on your church flower bed and you took lilies from this house? But as we were talking about, we kind of laughed about it. Then my next client came in and they were kind of they go to church together. Then we she shared the story with her and kind of laughed about it and talked about it. And then as she left, and I had my next client. She was talking that she has also some purple lilies planted. But she said they never bloom. And she said, always kind of makes me sad. And I said, Well, why don't they ever bloom? She said, Because they're under a shade tree. And I thought about that and kind of as we went on about our training. I kept thinking about that. And I think, don't we always hear bloom where you're planted? And it's it resonates. It's like we should always try to find the best, do the best things, you know, bloom where we're planted. But because of her shade tree, those lilies wouldn't bloom. So as I as I thought about that and bloom where you're planted, I thought maybe sometimes we're just not blooming. We just think, what am I doing wrong that I can't bloom? And we never look up to see that there's shade, there's a shadow over us. What if to bloom where we're planted, maybe we need to do a little bit of trimming. Maybe not necessarily trimming where we're at, but trimming above. What would happen to those her lilies if her tree was trimmed? Let some sunlight come in, shining right on those lilies. What do you think would happen? Sunlight would come and they would bloom. There's nothing wrong with them. They're just lacking a little sunlight because of the shade, because of the shadow. So my challenge is that sometimes we get so frustrated when we're not blooming where we're planted. But sometimes we may need to look up, look around, and say, what is shadowing me? What is shading me? And sometimes those things around us need a little pruning, need a little trimming, need a little begone with to get the right sunlight that we need to really bloom and grow as we are intended. So that is an idea of taking upon me to look around, what can I do to bloom and be the prettiest flower, be the prettiest person, be the be the best person I can. Sometimes it just takes a little trimming, a little pruning, and you'll bloom right where you are. Thanks for joining me on this week's Mindful Moment, and look forward to seeing you right here next time on Mindful Moments.
