MM Ep 35: Favorite vs. Best
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
We trade the pressure of being “the best” for the joy of living as our favorite self. By choosing routines and habits we actually like, we build consistency, contentment, and momentum that lasts.
• shifting from external “best” to personal “favorite”
• using memory to identify a joyful past version of self
• aligning habits with activities we enjoy
• distinguishing necessary tasks from energizing anchors
• building sustainable routines around gravity points
• weekly reflection to refine toward alignment
So go out and find your favorite version of yourself and be the happy, content, joyful person you're meant to be
Welcome back to another mindful moment. If I were to ask you, what is the best kind of ice cream? You might think, well, some people think this is the best. I've been here, this is the best. And it's kind of a hard thing to answer. What if I was to say, what is your favorite kind of ice cream? And we're just assuming that you do like ice cream. If I were to say, What's the best, whatever it is that you like? Or what if I say, What is your favorite? What is your favorite sweatshirt? What is your favorite meal? What is your favorite ice cream? What is your favorite vacation? What is your favorite activity? When I ask you what your favorite is, you can come up with it really fast. If I ask you what the best is, there's a lot of thought in it because we have all these different things weighing in on what is the best. What if I asked you what is your favorite version of you? And I bet as you look back over the years, you can identify the your favorite version of you. And when we have our favorite version of ourselves, don't we remember that as being the happiest? When we have our favorite meal, doesn't it make us happy? When we're on our favorite vacation, my favorite vacation is on the beach. That makes me so happy just to feel the sun on me, to relax, to read, to nap, to hear the waves crashing against the sand. I get to hear all those things, and it's my favorite time, and it brings back such good memories. And so I ask you, what is your favorite version of yourself? We always strive for the best version of ourselves. And sometimes, quite honestly, we get to that best and you go, I'm not very happy here. And I think our favorite version of ourselves would when we're honestly, it's all the good things for us, whether it's we spend more time reading, whether it's we spend time meal prepping, we spend time doing activities, physical activities we enjoy. We we spend time refilling our mind, we spend time refilling our spirit, we spend time doing those things, and that's our favorite version of ourselves. And I think when we chase our favorite version of ourselves, we're more apt to be motivated, to be disciplined. Because sometimes, haven't we all heard, oh, running's the best form of exercise to lose weight? Best form. Is it your favorite? I've been running for 15, 17 years, and it's not my favorite. I don't, I don't go, oh man, I can't wait. Now, there are some people that go, man, I can't wait to run today. For me, I mean it's I can't wait to work out and lift weights, and that's my favorite. But when we hear the best, I don't always get excited about the best, but I do get excited about the favorite. Now, there are some things I do run. You may do some power walking, you may do some of those things that are good for you, but they're not necessarily your favorite. They will get you to help you get maybe to your favorite version of yourself. But I want you to really think about your favorite version. Maybe you haven't quite hit that yet. So start thinking about what does your favorite version look like? And I think as you look back on your past, you you'd hit some spots to go, that was my favorite version of myself. I really like the way I acted and I treated others. Maybe I really like that time when that's the that's how I look, my my hair, my body, all that. So I challenge you to be mindful of what's your favorite version of yourself. We have a lot of best, and that's hard to decide what the best version is. But I challenge you to chase your favorite version. And I also know that when you find and you are your favorite version of yourself, you'll be the most happiest and content person there is. So go out and find your favorite version of yourself and be the happy, content, joyful person you're meant to be. And I'll see you next time on Mindful Moments.
