Todd: [00:00:00] Alright, what's up everyone? Happy Monday, welcome back. So just me today, gonna be a solo episode, and I'm gonna keep this really quick for you guys.
So, here we go. First of all, thank you for tuning in, thank you guys for listening this year. It's been great, we've seen a A good amount of growth in the podcast. And if you guys are listening and you like it, please leave us a review on either Spotify or Apple. That would really help or reach out to us, contact us, say hello, whatever.
Give us ideas for topics in 2025 next week. So. Yeah, this week will be the short episode. And then Jen and I have a sort of how to set your business up for success in 2025. It turned out to be like a monster episode. I think we have between, I think I have between 15 and 20 areas that we're going to talk about and [00:01:00] we're going to split that up into a two part podcast.
So there'll be two parts to that one. And I think that could really help you whether you Are a business owner that's just starting out, whether you're a business owner, that's, you know, two, three, one year, five years, 10 years in just a different perspective. And I'm, I guarantee there's going to be something in there that you're not doing that, or you're not focusing on that will just spark some thought and get you to think about your business a little bit different and set yourself up for success.
So today, like I said, this is going to be really quick. I just want to get people's minds sort of ready for that big episode. So for people that listen straight through thank you very much. And if you do these quick little things, you will be set up to sort of. Be in the mindset and be ready to go and attack 2025.
So first thing grab a piece of [00:02:00] paper, notepad, phone, laptop, whatever you like, keeping notes in and spend, I don't know, spend 20 minutes doing this. Don't spend a ton of time, right? So the first thing I want you to do is reflect on your wins. So spend 10 minutes, 15 minutes, write down three things, write down five things that went really well in your business this year.
And you can do this. Like I said, whether you're an employee, whether you're an owner, whether you're just starting out, whether you're somebody that's owned businesses for years, you have something that went well, maybe you raised prices and it went really well. Maybe you gave someone a promotion. Maybe you got a promotion.
Maybe you left somewhere that wasn't the best fit for you and you found a new salon business to work at, whatever it might be, write those things down and spend some time thinking about them and reflecting on them. Think about how you felt. Think about how you felt before you were probably nervous. [00:03:00] And then after you probably like, there wasn't really much to be nervous about.
So think about that stuff. And that really helps you in the future for when you look at something and it makes you pause because you're nauseous and you think. Everybody's gonna hate you. It's not gonna happen. Alright, second thing I want you to do, again, 10 15 minutes. Identify some challenges. Same thing.
One or two, it could be one or two things that you struggled with. It could be a list. Maybe your whole year, every week, you had something that just sucked. Write it down. Write that stuff down. Maybe your client retention isn't where it needs to be. Maybe you are struggling communicating with your team.
Maybe you are struggling communicating with your, the owner of your business. Maybe you want to step up your marketing. You're really struggling to get people through the door. Maybe you're struggling with hiring. Maybe you're struggling at the salon that you're at or the shop that you're at. And you think you're ready to move on, but you're not sure what to do.
I can't tell you how many times I've talked to [00:04:00] people that are just frozen. They're not happy where they are, but they don't know what to do. Write that stuff down. And again, there's gotta be some sort of emotion that's tied to this stuff, so spend a little time thinking about that. Don't dwell on negativity and go down a rabbit hole that's gonna leave you.
You know, more stressed out. That's not what this exercise is about. Not at all. Spend a little time like, so if, if you are working somewhere and you are not happy, why? Ask yourself why. You know, what, what, what is it that you're feeling before you get there? When you wake up in the morning, midway through your shift.
After your shift, what, what's going on that is causing. You to feel that way. Think about that stuff, right? That stuff down too. And then the last thing that I'm going to talk about is write down based on your wins and your challenges, set some sort of focus for January. What do [00:05:00] you want to do? Look at your wins.
Maybe you want to double down on something. Maybe you hired some people and expanded your team. Maybe you moved again. Maybe you moved to a new salon. What can you do now? How can you ride that high? How can you double down on something and then look at your struggles, you know, maybe you let's go to client retention Maybe you're struggling to retain clients.
Maybe you're an employee and the salon you're working at is feeding you clients and they're just, you're not retaining them. What do you have to do to retain them? You have to look in the mirror. What does your service look like? What does your client experience look like? What does your presentation look like?
How are you dressed? How are you taking care of yourself? How do you feel? What is your attitude like? Are you smiling when you walk in? Or are you tired or hungover or whatever? Ask yourself and be honest with that stuff [00:06:00] and then set some sort of a focus, some sort of a goal. And you can go, go search up smart goals.
If you really want to put a little extra time into this. So smart goals are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time based excuse me, time based or time focused. I forget exactly. But if you search up smart goals. You will find that, and it's an easy framework to set some goals. Alright, that's pretty much it.
That's all I got. I want you to enjoy your holiday season. I want you to know that Jen and I appreciate you, even though she's not here today. And that, that was planned. This is just gonna be, like I said, a quick episode. I want you guys to, you know, if you appreciate what we're doing, leave a review.
And it would really help the show grow, and I think that's gonna be one of our goals. We have to still set sit down and set our goals for the new year. We're a little behind on that. [00:07:00] But that's okay. Not everything is gonna be perfect. Not everything is gonna be s I used to say this all the time when I had my gym.
Not everything needs to wait till Monday or start on a Monday. Not everything has to start on the first of the month. You can, you know, if all of a sudden it's February and you were dealing with some shit that you didn't see coming, then, you know what, start your year in February and just kick ass for the rest of the time.
Do what you gotta do. So, super simple exercise that you can do, but really powerful because it's gonna provide you with that clarity. And then give the next two episodes a listen when they come out, and I think it will help you. I would bet money on it's going to help you.
As always, thank you very much. If you need anything, please reach out. You can send us a text through I believe it says send us a text. So the show notes on wherever you listen to your podcasts, if you do it that way, we're not able to reply. I don't get any of your information. I just get a approximate location.
And I think the [00:08:00] last four digits of your phone number, if you want to leave, leave a message where we can correspond, you can reach out through the show notes or you can go through our website, hello, hair, co. com. And then we have a pro section on there. And yeah, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and we will talk next week.
Thanks, everyone. Bye.
