It's not so much about having negative thoughts by themselves, it is what they lead to. When you are discouraged, annoyed, stressed, tired, etc.. it then leads to actions that help distract you from that. This in turns leads you down the rabbit hole of negative actions and a negative mindset. By becoming more positive and building rules, you can break this and build progress towards your goals.
