Be A Better You
The Be a Better You Podcast (formerly The Emotional Abuse Recovery Podcast) is hosted by Best Selling Author and Certified Rapid Reprogramming™ Coach, Allison K. Dagney. As a young adult, I met a man who I believed was the love of my life. We got married quickly and brought three kids into the world. But something was wrong. I was miserable. And I blamed myself for all the problems in our marriage. What I didn't know, was that I was being emotional abused by who I believe is a narcissist. I decided it was time to break free and step into the person I was always meant to be — confident and free to live the life I’ve always imagined.
I escaped, and I turned my personal story of transformation into a memoir. And now I coach women all over the world to help them transform their pain into empowerment, experience peace and joy, and start living life like never before.

The Things You Don't Expect After Leaving a Toxic Relationship
Many survivors believe leaving a toxic relationship is the finish line.
But for some, leaving is the moment the abuser realizes they are losing access to control—and that's when entirely new tactics can emerge.
In this episode, we're talking about post-separation abuse: the ongoing attempts some emotionally abusive, narcissistic, or controlling partners make to maintain influence long after the relationship has ended.
We'll explore what post-separation abuse looks like, why it happens, and the emotional toll it can take on survivors. From excessive texting and constant emergencies to smear campaigns, false accusations, financial sabotage, court manipulation, love bombing, hoovering, and using children as messengers, many survivors find themselves facing challenges they never expected after leaving.
You'll learn:
• What post-separation abuse is and how to recognize it
• Why some abusers escalate after a breakup or divorce
• The common mistake survivors make that keeps them emotionally hooked into the conflict
• How ongoing abuse can create anxiety, hypervigilance, rumination, self-doubt, and exhaustion
• Why healing isn't measured by whether they stop
• What recovery actually looks like after emotional abuse and narcissistic abuse
If you've ever found yourself thinking, "I left, so why am I still struggling?" this episode is for you.
The reality is that healing isn't always about getting the other person to change. It's about reclaiming your peace, your energy, your identity, and your future—even when someone else is trying to keep you stuck in the past.
