#202 TURNing it up with Councilor Jennifer Rice

The Universal Radio Network Season 10 Episode 17

“When the economy is better, when the business is doing better, I don't want to use our residents, our citizens come to Whyte Avenue and to join our life which makes things even better.” – Councillor Jennifer Rice

Jennifer Rice is a member of the Edmonton City Council. She was elected on October 18, 2021, and officially took office on October 26, 2021. Rice is among the first visible minority women to serve on Edmonton’s City Council.

Before her election, Rice had a diverse professional background, including roles as a university professor specializing in mathematics and higher education, as well as positions within the provincial government focusing on financial management, infrastructure planning, and community safety initiatives

At the beginning of their sit down, Rice and Sapreet talk about her history in China and what it was like moving here leaving all that behind  (1:13), how she feels her previous career supported her to get where she is today in our city (2:40), what feedback has she been getting from her constituents of what they're hoping to see (7:12), if she feels she is still pushing boundaries to get her voice across in rooms (10:31), what Rice is hoping to see in this upcoming election when it comes to candidates (13:35), if there was any personal experiences in her life that made her feel like that she would give back to the community? (16:30), and finally her reasoning to give back to her community, was it like a motherly instinct or her experience in Edmonton (19:20),
