What if a single conversation could shift your entire relationship with food?
In this episode, I take you inside the Breakthrough Call — a safe, supportive space designed for those who feel ready to move beyond consuming information and finally step into true transformation.
You’ll learn what actually happens during a Breakthrough Call, who it’s for (and who it’s not for), and why it might be the first step toward lasting food freedom. I’ll also share common fears that hold people back from booking and gently guide you through them, so you can decide if this is the moment you choose to stop struggling alone.
Discover what it's like to share your struggle with someone who understands, and gain clarity on your next steps to the freedom you crave.
Have you ever defined what food freedom actually means for YOU? Knowing what you don't want isn't enough. It's important to know what you are working towards and to make sure that your definition is supporting you, not sabotaging you.
What if a single conversation could help you finally understand why you binge and show you exactly what it might take to feel calm, connected, and confident around food. That's what we're going to explore today. Welcome to Binge Eating Breakthrough, the podcast to help you stop feeling out of control around food and build trust with your body. If you've tried everything but still feel stuck, you're not alone. I've been there too. I'm Jane Pilger, and I'm here to help you see binge eating in a new way so you can finally break free. Each week you'll get the tools and insights to create peace with food and your body. Your breakthrough starts now. Hello, trusted listener. I consider you a trusted listener because I trust that you are not just here for another tip or piece of information. You're here because you feel that quiet, steady knowing inside of you. That pull, that knowing that you're meant for something more than the struggle with food. So today I want to talk to you about the breakthrough call, why I created the breakthrough call, what it is, and if it is something that you might be interested in. My intention is that by the end of this podcast, you will know, oh, yeah, that breakthrough call, that's for me. I'm curious, I'm ready. Or you might also think, nope, not yet, not now. And either way, it's okay. I want you to know what it is, what it isn't, who it's for, what to expect, what you might experience if you choose to do a breakthrough call. This is not a pressure anything. I just don't work that way. But here's one thing that is so important to me is safety. Safety and trust. One of the things that I know creates safety is understanding what to expect. What exactly is this? What would happen? Is this for me? Is this not for me? If I do decide to do it, what can I expect? That's what this episode is about. So many people that I work with, men and women alike, spend years trying to figure this whole food thing out on their own. And what I notice is a very common tendency, which is was exactly my experience, is so many people are high achievers, smart and successful in so many areas. Yep, that was me. But when it comes to food, I felt so stuck, so confused, so alone. If I'm so smart, why can't I figure this out? I wanted answers so badly, but I had so much shame. I didn't want anybody to know what I was doing with food behind closed doors. I did not want anybody to know. People thought I was so worried about what other people thought of me. I would have loved to have a safe space. And ultimately, that is what I did find for myself. And finding a safe space, somebody I could talk to, somebody who could understand, who could guide me through the process. That is what I wanted to create. And it was what part of why I created the breakthrough call as a safe and compassionate space for people who are ready to move beyond the learning, beyond what you're hearing in this podcast and into true transformation. There is one thing to get information, and oh yeah, that makes sense. But transformation comes when you can apply what you're learning. And sometimes we simply can't do it on our own. And that's okay. We are not meant to do life alone, and we're certainly not meant to heal on our own. So I created this breakthrough call for people who are feeling this pull to finally look under the hood and explore what working together might feel like. So it is a safe and deeply supportive space to understand what really is happening under the hood. In this call, what I do is I really just ask a series of questions. I always start the call with the same question. And if you sign up for a breakthrough call, I will tell you in advance, here is the question I'm going to ask you when you first show up. So you know exactly what the first question is. And from there, I just ask you a series of questions, trying to understand what a little bit about your history, what you've done, what your challenges are. And I really take it from there. I guide the questions. And it's very quick for me to be able to kind of see what's happening under the hood. Whether it's nervous system patterns, maybe there's some perfectionism, maybe there's emotional roots. I can point out, ah, here's what I see. Based on what you've shared with me, generally, this is what I see. This is part of what I would suggest that you work on next. It's a place to explore what working together could feel like. But I do not start with that. We start with me asking questions, safely guiding you, creating a very safe place for you to share your struggles. And from there, I'll say, here's what I see. Here's what I see. Here's what I think you need to work on. Here are really your next steps. And only after I say all of those things, I will ask, would you like to hear more about what it's like to work with me? And if you wouldn't, if you're like, no, actually, I don't think so. I'm not, I don't, maybe not, maybe not now. I won't go any farther. I only share about working with me after we've had a chance to connect. And I've had a chance to share what I'm seeing with you. Most people say, yes, I want to hear more. I actually can't think of a person who has said no. But if they said no, I would be so open to that. This is not a pressure. I am not here to sell you. I am here to support you. I'm really here to be that safe person. What is so remarkable to me is I have had many of these calls that truly I am the first person that they, they, the person on the other side of this call, I'm the first person that they have talked to about their struggles with food. Now, I've had other people who have talked to a lot of people. They've been through a lot of maybe therapists, maybe programs, maybe other treatment. All kinds of um, all kinds of experiences. There is no uh right or wrong. There is no, this is exactly the person. But I can tell you, it is a very safe place to explore, to have this conversation. Ah, okay, I can see what it would be like to have this conversation, to be seen, to be held, to be supported, for somebody to be able to see this maybe through a lens that I've never looked at before. One of the things that comes out for me a lot in these conversations is I hear a lot, wow, that makes sense. Wow. I've never thought about it that way before. Oh, yeah. You know, that probably does make sense. My goal is to help you make sense of your eating behaviors and to show you here's what I see as your next steps. Whether that's with me, whether that's with somebody else, here are the next steps that I see would really help you get under the hood so that we can help stop those lights from coming on in the first place. That's the way that I see challenges with food. They're lights on the dashboard. They tell us something's going on under the hood. So, in this call, it's my very gentle way of opening up and getting under the hood to show you what I see. This really is for anyone, men, women alike. I do work with men privately. I work with men. In my groups, only women. But this is one-on-one support. So this is for people who are tired of feeling alone, who are willing to look beneath the surface, and who are ready to consider real change with support. This isn't about just curiosity. Oh, I wonder what she would tell me. This, you are ready for change. Oftentimes, people come to me on these calls in deep pain. They are ready to do something different. They're ready for help. They're ready for guidance. And my goal with these calls is to help you understand, understand what's happening with food. So, what might you experience during the call and even after the call? The number one thing is really feeling seen and understood. You will likely experience a feeling of safety. Wow. I've never been able to talk about it this way. Maybe I've never even been able to talk about it. You also might get clarity on why past attempts haven't worked. You'll get clarity on next steps. What are the next things I need to focus on in order to get under the hood to stop these lights from coming on again or in the first place? You might also experience a new sense of hope and possibility. Now, you might be thinking to yourself, uh, this all sounds amazing. I would love somebody to talk to. I am ready for change. But you might have a few questions, a few hesitations. I want to address a few of them in the event that you are thinking any of these, so that you can consider an alternate perspective. Again, this is not to be pushy. If anything that I'm saying resonates with you, that is your guidance, your guidance that, ah, okay, maybe this is for me. And maybe this isn't resonating. And you're thinking, nope, that's not for me. That's really good information for you too. So maybe you're thinking, you know, that's nice and I would love help, but I should be able to figure this out on my own. I'm smart, I'm capable, I've done all of these other things on my own. I should be able to do this on my own too. Now, I know that so many of you are incredibly capable. You solve big problems every day at work and in your life. But this is not about intelligence. It's not about willpower or making a better plan. This is about deeply held patterns and parts of you that need support, not control. You are not meant to do this alone. None of us are. This is not about food. This is not about what to eat or when to eat. It is the deeply held patterns, the parts of you that need support. All right, you might be thinking, I have tried so many things already. What if this doesn't work either? I get this concern. You have likely tried all of the diets, the plans, the mindset hacks, and still feel stuck. You may have been through various attempts at therapy or treatment, but you are not broken. It's possible you haven't had support that looks under the hood. So during the breakthrough call, what we do is we look at what's really driving the challenges with food. And we help you understand the why in a way that opens new doors. It's not just another set of rules, or here's what to do and what not to do, what to eat and what not to eat. We're going underneath. Now you might be thinking, I'm not ready yet. I'll do it when things calm down. I've got a lot going on right now. There is no perfect time to heal. Life will always be messy and busy and full of unexpected things. But if you're feeling a quiet pull now, that is your sign. Healing starts when you decide that you're ready enough. Ready enough, that doesn't mean perfect, fearless, this is it. Like, it's just ready enough to take a step. We don't have to be a hundred percent ready. Just ready enough. You might be thinking, I am too far gone. I am the exception. I am just too messed up to be helped. And this is one of the most painful lies that we tell ourselves. That we are unique. I am a special snowflake. I cannot be helped. Every person that I've worked with has felt that at some point, myself included. You are not beyond help. You deserve support. Whether it is me or somebody else, I want you to find support. Now you might be thinking, I don't want to feel judged. I all I know is judgment. I have so much judgment and so much shame towards myself. I don't want to feel judged by anybody else. I don't want to talk about this with anybody else. I deeply believe that shame cannot survive in a space of compassion. This call is judgment-free. This is really about understanding you. You will be met with curiosity and kindness. And if you've never been met with curiosity and kindness around your behaviors with food, it may feel really different. What most people tell me is like, ah, there's this audible sigh, this relief to be able to talk about it in a way where somebody gets it, somebody understands. Now, this could come into another hesitation. I'm afraid to be seen, which I get. Being truly seen can feel vulnerable, even scary. Talking to somebody about something that you have worked so hard to hide, it is scary. But being seen is where deep healing begins. And I want you to know that you are always in control of what you share on this call. You will never be pushed beyond what feels safe for you. I am always so in tune with the nervous system of the person that I'm speaking with. And I guide and gauge my questions, what I ask, what I say, based on what I can tell is happening for the other person that I'm talking to. I make sure I create safety. It is one of my core values to my core. And it is something that I believe is very unique about me and the work that I do. Now you might be thinking, I can't afford it. I'm worried about the financial commitment. This call, it's a chance to explore what's really going on, what's happening under the hood, and to see if working together feels like a fit. There is no obligation. I am not going to ask you to pull out your credit card while we are on the call. No way, I do not do that. You get to decide if and how you want to continue. So this really is a step to gain clarity and really have that conversation. Do I resonate? Is this something that I want to do? Maybe, maybe not. But there will be no pressure. I do not do high-pressure sales. That's it. My role is to support you, to help you see maybe what you can't see on your own. Now you might be thinking, I don't have time. I get it. I know you're busy. Part of why this call is short. 20 minutes. Sometimes I give myself, when I have these calls, I give myself a total of 30 minutes. It will show up as 20 minutes on your calendar. And if you want 20 minutes, that is all we will do. But consider this: how much time and mental energy are you already spending thinking about food, planning what you're going to eat, regretting what you did eat, or recovering from binges or those out-of-control moments with food. Investing half an hour in this call could actually save you years of struggle. Now, you also might be wondering, there might be a little kind of inner conflict, a fear of letting go, letting go of a coping mechanism. I don't know if I'm actually ready to let go. That actually feels a little bit scary. Food has likely served as a powerful comfort or protector for you. I don't ever, ever want to take that part away until you or that part are ready. We do not shame that part of you. We honor it. We get to know it. We start to understand that part's role and we explore other ways to meet those needs with more care and more safety. And when that care and safety is present, that part will be willing to let go on its own. But we don't pull it away too soon or in advance. That doesn't create safety. Everything I do is about creating safety. So recently I had a man reach out to me. He had been listening to the podcast. Um, he loved the episodes. He was really resonating. And he said, Do you work with men? I don't even know if you worked with men, if you work with men. And I told him, Yes, private clients, I do work with men. We had a powerful conversation and now we are working together. He is a private client. And one of the things he said is, Wow, it's so helpful to have somebody who really gets it. Nobody else in his life, he has people in his life who he does talk to about some of his struggles, which is unique, not everybody does. But even when he talks to them, they don't always understand. And to have somebody who understands, who has been there, who can guide him, has been really, really powerful. So what happens on this call after the call? After the call, you will leave with clarity on why you binge, why you struggle, why you feel out of control with food. You will leave with a first step that you can take right now. And you will leave with a clear understanding of what it could look like to work together if you choose to hear about it. If you don't, you'll just leave with clarity and your first step. If you want to hear more, I will share that with you. That's what happens on the call. So if after listening to this podcast, you are feeling that quiet inner poll, I invite you to book a call. Let's explore together what this could look like for you. Let's create your next breakthrough. I will share the booking link in the show notes. And I just remember, if you are feeling this poll, please go ahead and book now. Again, there is no pressure. I will create safety. If you have questions, please reach out. But I would love to see you on the other side of my Zoom screen sometime in the future. That's what I have for you today. I'll see you next week.
