welcome to This Week in fitness where we crunch the latest fitness business headlines all in under 5 minutes I'm your host Chrissy Van and here's what's making news Wellhub has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Urban Sports Club marking a major leap in its global growth strategy the deal brings together a combined network of over 34,000 corporate clients and 83,000 wellness partners across 18 countries expanding well Hub's footprint from the US and Latin America into Europe Urban Sports Club will continue to operate independently for now but the move signals growing demand for integrated employee well being solutions that span both physical and digital access it's a timely play as more employers prioritize workforce wellness amid rising healthcare costs and shifting work models meanwhile the Peloton Tread Studio got a little louder on March 14th thanks to a surprise return from none other than Lil John the Grammy winning rapper and self proclaimed wellness advocate turned a 30 minute club bangers tread class into a full on party DJ set and all alongside instructor Alex Tussan this wasn't his first ride with peloton back in June 2024 he joined the platform for an artist series that spanned everything from cycling to strength to meditation including a mindfulness class inspired by his Manifest Abundance album with past collabs featuring names like Beyonce and Eminem Peloton continues to blend fitness and music in ways that keep members engaged and occasionally yelling yeah on the tread sometimes we can't help ourselves over here at ATF W but not every headline this week hits a high note 23 and me has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Protection in the U S Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri the company has secured 35 million in emergency financing and says operations will continue during restructuring co founder Anne Wojjitski stepped down as CEO and announced she intends to bid for the company's assets after a prior offer was rejected in a LinkedIn post she wrote while I am disappointed that we have come to this conclusion I equally take accountability for the challenges we have today the filing comes in the wake of a 2023 data breach affecting nearly 7 million user profiles and includes efforts to reduce operational costs by shedding leases and contracts once valued at 6 billion the company now holds a market cap closer to 20 million a 45 day sale process is now underway from Silicon Valley to service uniforms the U S Army has launched a new YouTube series called All You aimed at helping American youth improve their health using the same tools applied to soldier readiness based on the army's holistic health and fitness system the series tackles five pillars physical mental nutritional sleep and spiritual wellness early results from military units using the H2F framework show reductions in injuries substance abuse and behavioural health issues with improved fitness test scores across the board the army says it's time to bring those tools to the public with new episodes rolling out by weekly on the Go Army channel it's also a subtle solution to a not so small problem declining recruitment eligibility tied to health concerns over in connected fitness gamification is gaining speed ergatta has teamed up with ifit to bring its interactive race style workouts to ifit enabled treadmills with rowers next in line the partnership introduces our Goddess signature Meteor game to fitpro members offering personalized interval training through a visual gaming interface members can race solo challenge trainers or compete with others in real time the goal tap into the natural drive for progress and competition to keep members coming back not just for fitness but for the experience and finally sports style training is heating up in the Middle East Gym Nation has partnered with Hirox to launch official Hirox Performance Centers across the region the training spaces mirror race day conditions down to the flooring friction imported equipment and structured classes with concept 2 machines and center branded tools Hirox's official global supplier members can prepare for competition or just train like they are for Gym Nation it's a bold move to serve both competitive athletes and high intensity enthusiasts all under one roof that's it for this edition of This Week in fitness by atfw I'm your host Chrissy Van and remember stay fit stay informed and keep your fitness business in shape for more insights don't miss our latest edition of the Fitness Business Forecast presented by a B C Fitness dropping this week and featuring Mark Mastrov where we break down what's overhyped what's underpriced and where capital is really flowing in 2025
