welcome to This Week in fitness by ATF W where we crunch the latest fitness business headlines all in under 5 minutes I'm your host Chrissy Van and here's what's making news peloton is back in the headlines with another major recall nearly 900,000 original Series bike plus units sold across the US and Canada are being pulled over a faulty seat post that can break during use the recall covers bikes built between December 2019 and July 2022 identified by the PL02 model number and serial numbers starting with t Health Canada and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission are urging owners to stop using the bikes immediately and request a free replacement seat post that can be installed at home so far peloton has received three reports of seat post breaking out of 833,000 US units two resulting in injury and none among 44,800 bikes in Canada it's deja vu for the company which faced a similar recall in 2023 affecting more than 100,000 bikes shares dipped 3.5% on the news just ahead of its Q1 2026 earnings Planet Fitness posted another strong quarter proving the demand for affordable fitness isn't slowing down the company reported 13% revenue growth reaching 333 million and same club sales up 6.9% what members should brace for a change Planet Fitness plans to raise the price of its Black Card membership from 2499 to 2999 per month after the 2026 peak join season the move follows trials of new amenities like dry cold plunge and red light therapy CEO Colleen Keating said strong performance allowed the company to lift its 2025 outlook now projecting 11% revenue growth and 12% EBITDA gains Vasa Fitness is reinvesting in its own playbook committing 30 million to upgrades across 64 clubs in eight states the investment will modernize equipment expand boutique style studios and refresh amenities by early 2026$10 million will fund more than 30 studio LFT strength spaces and 10 infrared studio flow yoga rooms while another five million goes towards 1,000 new machines from pendulum squats to booty builders CEO Rich Nelson said the upgrades are about raising the bar on what members can expect from a high value low priced fitness club the Southern California fitness scene is seeing a power shift EOS Fitness announced the acquisition of 23 long running gyms expanding its footprint by nearly 20% to 46 locations with plans to hit 50 by the end of 2025 at the same time Gold's Gym is reopening the Southern California franchise market for the first time in 36 years the Banos brothers longtime operators of the SoCal network are transitioning their locations to new ownership a new kind of race is coming indoors Techno Gym and World Athletics have teamed up to launch Runx the world's first global treadmill championship starting in 2026 runners around the world will compete simultaneously on connected Techno Gym treadmills with real time leaderboards tracking every step top performers advance through national and regional rounds to a world final with a 100,000 dollar prize pool and finally two fitness forces are joining Courtside TRX has teamed up with the Pickler one of North America's fastest growing indoor pickleball franchises to bring functional training zones into Pickler clubs across the US with more than 500 locations sold and 65 opening by the end of 2025 the new Pickler Mobility Zones will feature TRX suspension trainers rip trainers and y bells designed for warm UPS mobility and recovery and that's all for This Week in fitness by ATF W I'm your host Chrissy Van and remember stay fit stay informed and keep your fitness business in shape
