I think you tell yourself you'll be fine if it ends because you're trying to prepare for the possibility of getting hurt. It's a form of self-protection. You don't want to get too attached, invest too much emotionally, or allow yourself to imagine a future that may never happen.
So you set expectations low. You tell yourself it's only been a few months. You remind yourself that people come and go. You convince yourself that if the relationship ends, you'll simply move on with your life. But we know that's not true.
