Welcome back to the podcast. If you are new here, I'm Rae. I'm a somatic coach and breathwork facilitator, and if you aren't new here, welcome back. I'm so glad that you're tuning in for today's episode. I hope that you are doing well and that the fall has been treating you well. I love this time of year and this season it's one of my favorites. A few front desk items before we dive into today's episode. Um, I completely forgot to mention it in our last episode, but podcast episodes are going to stay bi-weekly for right now. This just seems to be working the best for what I can balance, and then, if I switch back to weekly, of course I will update you. And then the second update that I have for you is I got so I recently traveled, hence the episode name all about traveling and being in Paris, and while I was on my way to Germany, while I was on the plane, I got the full idea, the full download, for the October breathwork class of the month. So the October class for the month is going to be all about really connecting with your inner power. So we're talking about really getting grounded in your life and feeling safe, really feeling that difference between choice and force, connecting with your inner strength, being in your own energy and feeling safe to be in your own energy and clearing out any energetic leaks that might be happening. So really tending to your energy, really getting grounded and really connecting with your personal inner power. So I'm really excited for this group class. It will be on Saturday, october 12th, at 8 30 in the morning and it's virtually on zoom. So I am also planning on posting a poll on my stories to see if a Saturday morning or an evening during the week works better for people, and if it's a split, then I would offer both options for November's class. So we will see, stay tuned, stay tuned on that. And then the last front desk item I have for you is that my books are open for individual breathwork sessions in October. So I am so excited to offer these sessions again this month and really be able to support you. There are two options now. So one is for a 90 minute session and that includes coaching and breathwork and energy healing, and then the other is a 60 minute session and that also includes breathwork and energy healing, not as much time for the coaching. So there's always a time for integration and reflection, and if anyone has any questions about that, any of that, just definitely let me know, and the booking link is in the show notes and I'm so excited to hopefully see you this month. Okay, beautiful.
Speaker 1:So for today's topic, my husband actually gave me this idea, so shout out to him. But my middle name is actually Emily. So this was so fun and I just went to Europe for about a little bit over a week with some of our friends, and so today's episode Rachel, emily in Paris. So fun, best show love Emily in Paris. So today's episode is going to be all about how traveling relates to nervous system regulation, integration relationships. Nervous system regulation, integration relationships, all of it. So for our trip, we flew into Munich and went to Oktoberfest and then we went to Paris afterwards. So it was a pretty big trip lots of wine and cheese and naps, and we went to a museum and we walked around the city and it was really really nice, really amazing. I'm still definitely integrating and reflecting on it. I just got back on Friday. I'm recording this on Sunday but it was really just such an amazing trip and I feel so grateful that I was able to go and be able to hang out with my friends at one of my favorite restaurants in Paris for my birthday and it was just, it was pure magic.
Speaker 1:So our first topic for today nervous system regulation. The trip that I went on was definitely a lot different than going to like a yoga festival, where you're kind of really tending to your emotional landscape, having all of these spiritual breakthroughs and things like that. So it's a different vibe. But when it comes to traveling in general and nervous system regulation, you are moving outside of your comfort zone. So you're meeting new people, you're seeing new places. Maybe you don't know what you're going to eat for dinner that night. There is some element of uncertainty and there's some element of the unknown, because everything is different than what you've experienced previously, and so maybe you experienced you know travel anxiety. Maybe you get anxious when you're in new places. So if that's the case, this will all definitely support you.
Speaker 1:So, for example, when we got to Paris, we were pretty hungry and we didn't know where to go or anything like that. We just went straight to our hotel and then we left our hotel, we started walking around and we just stumbled upon this cutest town. It had all these different cafes and we sat in this little window and we were like, and people watched and just ate, and I had mushroom ravioli. It was so good and it was really one of my favorite moments and one of my favorite meals of the trip. We were just like in flow, we were in full surrender and it all worked out.
Speaker 1:On the other side of things, while we were there, it rained and poured the entire time. We were in Paris, so this is not something that they highlighted in Emily. In Paris, I feel like there was no episodes with rain. But there was a point in the trip where both my husband and I were annoyed by the rain. We were like this is pretty annoying and thank goodness I think I was actually my husband started saying it. He was just started saying like nobody can rain on our, our parade and it kind of became like this funny affirmation of the trip.
Speaker 1:But at the time when it first happened on our second day, when we were like we really wanted to just kind of be able to walk around and, you know, go to the gardens and do all that kind of stuff, we were a bit dysregulated. We were were both pretty annoyed about it and we just had this moment. We were like listen, we're on vacation, like we can also just like relax, like we don't need to like be running around and like doing something the whole time that we're here. So it ended up being like really, really nice and it's subtle, but this is where all of your tools that you've practiced get to come into play. This is, you know, all the episodes that we've talked about on the podcast so far. This is where all those tools get to be applied for the moments that work out where you're feeling you know great and you're like, oh my gosh, this is amazing, and the other ones that don't.
Speaker 1:And when you travel, you know sometimes things like I thankfully for me, I've never had the moment where I've, like, lost my passport, but that's probably like my biggest travel anxiety. It's like something like that happening and I've thankfully never experienced it, but I imagine that would be pretty dysregulating. Or experiencing some kind of like emergency in a foreign country that would just be very outside of your comfort zone. And when it comes to regulating your nervous system, while you're traveling you're going to be practicing, you know, resiliency, change, expansion and so much more in a very fun way, and so it's a healthy and fun way to really move outside of your comfort zone, whether you're experiencing something you know more uplifting or something more challenging, and it's a great way to practice all those nervous system regulation tools.
Speaker 1:And then the second area of traveling that I think is really important to chat about is relationships, meeting new people, being in community, and so when we were in Munich, we met a group of girls from Australia and it was so much fun, you know, everyone was so nice and we got to make friends in such a nice, positive way and share this experience of being together at this festival, something that none of us had ever done before. And now we have friends in Australia, we have friends in London and it's just like so fun and fun, exciting, and throughout our whole trip we met some really awesome people. And I think, just in general, when it comes to relationships, you can make a positive impact anywhere you are. It doesn't have to be across the world, it can be in your day-to-day life. It really comes down to people being kind to other people and being open to learn about other experiences and what makes us all different and what makes us all similar, and really taking those experiences with you, bringing them home and knowing that you know you can apply the same kind of romance to meeting new people anywhere you go. You know it doesn't matter if you're, you know, going to work or stopping at the coffee shop, or if you're a teacher or an accountant or a coach. You know you can make an impact in somebody's life and I think that that is just such a nice element of travel, because you're so outside of your comfort zone and you're meeting new people. There's just such a richer experience, it seems like when you have these magical moments and while we were there, we couldn't get our Netflix to work and we ended up watching a podcast episode on my laptop with Simon Sinek, and I can link it in the show notes here, but one part that I'll reference is that he shared about how there are three body parts that determine the longevity of how someone, how long someone, will live.
Speaker 1:And the first is the heart you know how healthy their heart is. And then the lungs you know getting air and breath. That's important. And then the third is actually the thigh muscles, and I found this so interesting, and this is because back in the day before transportation existed, before there were planes and buses and cars and all that stuff, people would walk to see their friends and community and friendship was one of the greatest indicators for living a long life. And I think our relationships are so important. And while I was in Paris, I was able to celebrate my birthday with a group of our friends, which is absolutely amazing, and I was so inspired by the people I was meeting and also just by my friends, by my family. They sent me like the sweetest happy birthday messages and it just really made my day and I ended up just feeling so grateful for the friendships and the family that I do have in my life. And so this is to say that when you travel, it helps you to see things differently, it helps you to meet new people and be, you know, really grateful for what you have, what you maybe don't have, just gratitude in general. So this is what leads me to number three, the third topic that we'll chat about, which is taking the time to return home and integrate.
Speaker 1:So, whatever emotions it brings up for you after you go on a long trip, coming home maybe there's some relief, maybe there's some sadness. Sometimes we need a vacation from our vacation, so they're all valid, uh, for this vacation. For me personally, I I didn't feel like I needed a vacation from the vacation, so that was nice, especially for europe, and it being such like an adventurous trip, it actually felt pretty relaxed at the same time, and we were able to, like nap and rest a bunch too. So that was really nice. But when you return home, your perspective may have shifted. You might see things differently. You've broken outside of your routine and now, when you come back, you get to create what you'd like to create, and that also includes if you don't like things too Like, if you're coming back and you're like I don't really like how this thing is going, you can create something differently, and so things don't always have to be the same as they once were.
Speaker 1:And the need for taking time to integrate shows up in so many different places in our lives. It can show up, I know, for me personally, after I take, like a certification or a course, or definitely after a trip, you know anything that is kind of like a bigger experience for me. It can take time for me to integrate and sometimes it can take, you know, a few days, and other times weeks, months. You know it can take, depending on how the experience was for you can take time. So the need for integration can show up in so many places and sometimes we miss it because we're so focused on getting to the next thing. So, definitely, making time for yourself to experience and reflect on the small moments, the small shifts.
Speaker 1:Be compassionate with yourself if you do need rest after you travel and really allow yourself to take the time to integrate this new experience and take away all the small nuggets of gratitude and insight and inner shifts that may have happened. So, to recap with you we talked about nervous system regulation. We talked about relationships and community, meeting new people, friendships, and we talked about returning home and taking that time and rest and really listening to what you need and allowing yourself to integrate. And that is what we have for today's episode, so I'll leave all the information in the show notes for our October Breathwork of the Month class. It's all around inner power really grounding into your life, really clearing out any energetic leaks boundaries. Like really grounding into your life, really clearing out any energetic leaks boundaries, like really being with your own energy and feeling safe and empowered to be in that space. And that's on Saturday, october 12th at 8.30am.
Speaker 1:I'm excited for this class. It's going to be a good one. And then I'll also leave in the show notes the link for October one-on-one sessions. Those are 90 or 60 minute sessions and I am so, so, so excited for these. So I hope to see you this month. I hope you have an incredible rest of your week, an incredible rest of your day, and I will talk to you soon. Thank you so much for tuning in to today's episode.
