I'm so glad that you're tuning in to today's episode.

So our first episode for the month of March and for today's topic, we're going to be talking about breathwork and creativity, and that is this month's theme for the month of March. So creativity is what we'll be working with, and I chose this topic for a few different reasons. So the first is creativity, specifically, is currently a part of my core values and that's something that I talked about a few episodes ago. To me, it's like the most fun thing right now. Like I don't know, I'm just having a lot of fun with creativity specifically, and I share a little bit about this. In episode 62, I think it was about my core values specifically, but creativity to me in this moment means being able to express myself freely in my work, in my business, on the podcast, creating content, writing, creating art and just overall as an entrepreneur, my business is like such a fun creative outlet for me, and so this quality of creativity when doing all of like the deeper work inner child healing, somatic therapy, breath work, emotional healing, anxiety work it's really nice to have an element that's incorporated, that is fun and light-hearted and spacious, and so that's how, or one of the reasons how, I picked creativity as this month's theme and then the other was oftentimes I feel like creative creativity can be like an antidote of some sort to some of that deeper emotional healing work, so we can sometimes get lost in the mix of it, whether it's anxiety or shame or grief or sadness, and creativity is one way to have an outlet of possibility and curiosity and all these other elements can come into play when you're working with creativity and you're also doing that deeper inner work.

Speaker 1:

So one tool specifically that I absolutely love to use for creativity is breathwork. If I do breathwork, I will usually have like a million bajillion business ideas. After a good breathwork session, like I just feel so light and so airy and so spacious. And if I had an emotional release and I cried like, forget about it, I'm going to be feeling so much more connection to possibility and openness on the other side of that breathwork session than I did when I first started. And if you wanna do a breathwork practice for this month, definitely check out the YouTube channel. I post a guided practice there each month and so this month's will be on creativity. And then another thing that I also find is really helpful for creativity in a different practice is the somatic healing work, so really allowing yourself to get curious with what might be happening for you in the body, so that if anything needs to complete, it will be able to, and that will also help to shift your perspective. So basically, between breathwork and somatic healing and creativity, it basically comes down to how much can you quiet the mind Right, connect with your body and really hear the sound of your intuition and the sound of your creative voice, so that those ideas can come online and can be expressed, and that expression will look different for everybody.

Speaker 1:

So, for you, what is your favorite way to express yourself right now? Is it through writing? Is it through drawing? Is it through creating something like content or a blog or a podcast episode? You know, where in your life do you have those creative outlets that feel really exciting and good for you?

Speaker 1:

And I will also say they don't have to be like public outlets. You know like you don't need to have like an online brand or really be in any realm of that for you to feel like you have a creative outlet. It could be in how you, you know, write your emails at work. It could be how you communicate with your friends. It be, um, a note section in your phone. I'm big on that. I love the note section of my phone and I have in my note section. Each month I create a new note for that month and I write down all of these creative ideas that come through. And right now I'm not really showing up as much on social media, um, intentionally, but I do have a section in my notes where it's just like content, ideas, because that's part of something that comes through for me with creativity and like some of them you know they don't have to always come to fruition or anything like that, but it is like a nice place to have just a creative outlet, a place where you can let your creativity really shine and be expressed and then from there you can create, you know, anything that you'd then. From there, you can create, you know anything that you'd like from there.

Speaker 1:

So another example that I can share with you is I've been starting to write more. I write personally, like in my own journal and in my own phone and my notes section and any content that I put out, or even like this on the podcast, like I do write, but in this sense, even like this on the podcast, like I do write. But in this sense I'm writing a little bit differently, where I'm writing like pieces, like poetry and like creative essays and just whatever kind of comes through, and there's no force or structure around it. It's really just to be just a place for me to have fun, and so I have a new sub stack that I've been writing on, which has been fun and, yeah, just like invitation for you to kind of look at what. In what ways it doesn't have to be writing for you, it could be, it could be anything, but in what ways would it be really fun for you to express yourself creatively and what might that look like Like? How would that? What would that look like in your life, like what's possible?

Speaker 1:

And then the other aspect of creativity that I would love to speak to is if you're feeling creatively blocked, so this can show up as brain fog, like physically just not feeling like you can think straight. This could look like being overly stressed, overwhelmed, burnt out, fatigue. So there's a lot of different ways that creative blocks can show up and what does that feel like for you in the body in those moments of life? There are certain things that I think add to being creatively blocked the overuse of AI. I feel like if we are just constantly leaning on something else to give us ideas, that can lead to kind of like a creative blur.

Speaker 1:

So just being mindful of how you use AI, if you do use it, I think our diet can really contribute to how we think creatively. So if you're, you know, after you eat like a huge meal, or maybe you eat a meal that's like not that good for you, like a lot of fried food or something after you might not be feeling your best, you might not be feeling as creative as you normally would. I think scrolling on social media is definitely something that can stifle our creativity. And just seeing, like all these I mean it's it's all these different ideas that are coming so, so fast and all this information that, if you're just like scrolling and scrolling and scrolling, so just being mindful, if that's something like after you scroll, do you feel creatively open, creatively blocked, creatively expressed, drained? How does it make you feel?

Speaker 1:

If you are experiencing any of these blocks, whether it's from AI or diet, scrolling, alcohol, whatever it might be I think the first step is having awareness around it and noticing the when things feel tight or tense or stuck or not working out the way that you would like them to, do you force?

Speaker 1:

Do you breathe? Do you pause? Does the pause feel accessible to you? I think sometimes it can feel like life is moving so fast and if we were to just like pause and take a beat and chill for like a few, for like a second, and just like really, really really pause like, get connected to that present moment. You will see so much is possible in moving your energy, shifting how you feel, moving through a creative block, moving through tension and really noticing how your body, how, when your body really relaxes, your mind can open. So, to summarize, how does creativity and creative expression show up for you? What are some tools that you like to use to unlock your creativity? And when you do unlock that creativity, how are you hoping to express it, to create what it would feel like really nice for you to create? If it was anything, what would be something that you would love to just express yourself and create at this current time? And when you do feel blocked, are you able to pause? Are you able to take a beat, take a second check in with your body and does that pause really feel accessible to you?
