Welcome back to the podcast. If you are new here, I'm Rae. I'm a somatic coach and breathwork facilitator, and if you aren't new here, welcome back. I'm so glad that you are tuning in for today's episode.
Speaker 1:So some front desk items before we dive in. I know I mentioned a few episodes ago I think it was in February that I'm looking to rebrand the podcast a little bit, and so that would look like having a new name. Basically, the update is that I don't have that new name yet. So that's's the update. I'm still not sure what to rename the podcast, so I was hoping I would receive like insight this past weekend when I was in California for um, like an energetics retreat, and that's not what happened. So I'm just gonna continue to wait patiently until I get this download of what the name should be. So I'm playing around with a few ideas, but definitely stay tuned because it might, when it does change, you know, you'll be aware.
Speaker 1:The second thing that I had for you is that the monthly newsletter goes out on April 1st and I believe that's next week. So if you want to receive that, definitely sign up to receive it. The link is in the show notes. It includes a monthly theme. It includes a mantra for the month, a guided somatic practice, journaling prompts, podcast updates, life updates. It's like a nice little. Uh well, it's actually not that little, it pretty comprehensive, but it's sent to your inbox on the 1st of every month. And then there's like a mini newsletter sent on the 15th of every month, yeah, and it's just like super fun. So if that interests you, sign up for that in the show notes, yeah, and so today's topic is all around owning your self-expression and the theme for the month of March was creativity, and so this definitely goes hand in hand with that topic. And when you're in your, you know, in your flow and in joy and feeling like you can fully express yourself, you're most likely connected with your creativity. So, yeah, so that's what we're going to be chatting about today.
Speaker 1:So invitation, as I'm taking a deep breath, for you to pause and take a deep breath as well. I feel like just been running around, hopped up, I just did like, ironically enough, I just like danced around my room for a little bit. So I'm kind of like taking a deep breath. So invitation for you to pause, take a deep breath, wonderful, okay.
Speaker 1:So the name of today's podcast episode is From Stuck to Seen, from stuck to seen owning your expression. And oftentimes, when we are feeling stuck, we get stuck in the first place because, generally speaking, expression feels really vulnerable and for some of us, it hasn't always been or felt safe to be seen or be heard, and so, when it comes to expressing ourselves, it can feel like an edge. And also invitation to consider your personal experience, whether that's culturally or in your family or, you know, even generationally how did women express themselves in your life experience and how is it presented to you for women to express themselves? I think that that's just kind of like a general lens that you can always look through to understand yourself deeper. Yeah, so there's a few different. So there's a few different blocks that I think come up when it comes to expressing yourself, and we can definitely make shifts in this area too. We can shift from these sticky, blocky areas into spaces that are full of flow and expression and joy and play.
Speaker 1:And so the first block is perfectionism, and it's something that I've talked about on the podcast quite a bit and a little bit on Instagram over the years, but I definitely have a personal story with perfectionism. I was raised as an athlete, which is basically, the more perfect you are, the better your performance, and the better your performance, the more you win, and the more you win, the more you get acknowledged and receive love, and so perfectionism is definitely like a core wound of mine and disclaimer there, too. Anytime I share something vulnerable like this, I try and come from like an integrated place. So I've done a lot, a lot, a lot of work and all these fun things around perfectionism, and that is why I think that it's something you can absolutely move through. If it's something that you experience, there is definitely a place in a world where it doesn't. You know, it's not your driver, um, and that is exactly where I come from. So, after doing a lot of work, so, but it doesn't always have to be a lot. So don't you know? My life experience is mine, but yours can be, you know, yours can be yours.
Speaker 1:So one great way to move through perfectionism in terms of like modalities is definitely inner child healing and parts work. Those are the two things that I think make the greatest impact. It allows you to get to the root of you know where your perfectionism stems from. It allows you to meet those core needs and then, on the other side of that, is when you can really like let things be messy and let them be fun and let them be playful, because it's no longer about you know what you're receiving. It's no longer about you know what you're receiving. It's no longer about how it looks. It's really about your expression. So if that is something that you relate to, definitely look into those areas Inner child healing, parts work. You can also send me a DM. I do have like inner child practices that I could just send you. So if that interests you, just you know, hit me up.
Speaker 1:And then the second block that I think is important to me is around creativity in general. So sometimes you feel connected to your creativity and other times you feel disconnected from your creativity, disconnected from your flow, your unique blueprint, your personal energy, and I think naming this is really important, because when you get connected to your own energy, you can then let it be expressed. You're no longer, you know, trying to replicate maybe something else that you've seen or trying to keep yourself safe, because you're so connected to your channel, to your alignment, to your personal version of expression. And so, in this area too, there are many, many, many different things you can do to connect with your unique energy, your flow, your channel, and a few of them that I personally love. Breathwork will absolutely let you quiet the mind, let you open the heart, open the body, release and make space for things to flow and come through Movement. So that's what I just did. I just like danced around my room, I shook off a bunch of stuff that was feeling sticky, and I also just had a lot, a lot of fun, which is always great. Writing this is something that you can do in a bunch of different ways, but journaling is the first thing that comes to mind. But you can also you know there's so many resources out there for writing specifically that will allow you to express through pen to paper, where you're not necessarily trying to sound a certain way or let things come out a certain way, you're just like writing to write and writing to express, and that can be really powerful for creativity, creating art.
Speaker 1:Just the other day I went to a what was it called? Oh, my goodness, it was called Wheel Wednesday and it was at this pottery studio where we used the wheel to make these like ceramic pots. So I made a small. I think I made a bowl, I don't remember now. Oh no, I made a cup. I made a cup for my morning cacao and I also made kind of like a little. It's like a dish that you could put sauce in and then pour it out. So I don't know what like a sauce pour, I guess, and totally went on a whim. I had seen it for a while. I thought it was cool and then it just kind of worked out that I was able to go and, long story short, I ended up going but being able to just kind of play and be making any form of art.
Speaker 1:This is just an example. But you're playing with like the mud and I'm making these little things and I have no idea what I'm doing. But it's just like an outlet for you to be creative without any rules and have fun. And yeah, and when you are connected to your creativity, if you are a business owner or if you are, even if you just have like a creative outlet, like passion project, like there's someone that I follow on Instagram that is all about um books. She's I guess it's like considered like book talk, but it's on Instagram, so I don't know what it would be called, but uh, um, and that's just her like creative outlet and it's awesome. And so this is a way that she expresses her creativity and she puts it out there into the world. So you could do that through Instagram, you could do that through TikTok, you could do that through podcasting, you could have an online blog, a sub stack. It doesn't really like the context of it doesn't really matter, but it's just an invitation that sometimes, when we have a place to put our creativity and we have an outlet for it, it gives it space to grow and expand and take on a life of its own, which is really fun.
Speaker 1:And then when it comes to owning your expression, so owning your self-expression, releasing the fear of being seen, I absolutely get this. I definitely have had experiences with this, even this past weekend when I was on this energetics retreat that I went on, which I'm still integrating from, so I don't have too much to share about it yet or I don't know if I will do an episode on it, but it was really really cool. Even that weekend or that week, this past week, fear of being seen was coming up for me. I was totally out of my comfort zone with so many different exercises that they had us doing like drama therapy basically, and dance and all of these like really big, like movement practices Totally outside of my comfort zone. So I got this one fear of being seen Um, totally outside of my comfort zone. So I got this one fear being seen.
Speaker 1:And there's a few things that I think are really supportive for being in this, being in this space. So definitely same as before, with the creativity, reconnecting with your personal power, with your personal voice, and understanding what's coming up for you, specifically when it comes to being seen, and understanding what's coming up for you specifically when it comes to being seen. So this is where that inner child healing and parts work comes into play. Those are awesome modalities for really getting to the root of any kind of like, fear or block, because it's gonna be different for everybody and, like, my unique experience with being seen is going to be different than somebody else's, because that's how life works. So, doing parts work, inner child healing and same thing you can always DM me. I can send you a practice on, like how to take a look at this area if it's something that you want to do. Different practices in general that can be supportive in this area is mirror work. That's a hard word to say, mirror work and that's something you can definitely, you know, look up online, but it's basically sitting with yourself and seeing yourself from a mirror and being able to sit with everything that that brings up and that can bring up a lot of stuff. So, if you, you know you might need like, support with, like a deeper practice when it comes to mirror work. So definitely be mindful of that.
Speaker 1:And dance and movement. So that's something that I've talked about a little bit so far, but super, super fun and one of the biggest takeaways that I will be taking from this past week on the trip that I was just on, is definitely dance and movement. It's something that I had so much fun with I'm so excited to see where it takes me but definitely really, really helpful and supportive for being seen and expressing yourself. And yeah, this is kind of like where I'm at right now, too, so we can walk along this path together. I'm starting to move into this in terms of like movement and as a form of expression and dance as a form of expression and moving away from how I think things are quote, unquote, like supposed to be, Um, yeah, so we can go on that journey together.
Speaker 1:So, yeah, invitation to reflect and think what would it feel like in your body to be fully expressed? What would you create from that space of expression, of vulnerable creativity, of openness and flow? What would come through for you, what wants to be expressed? And second question what's one small way that maybe you can express yourself today? So that can look like anything. It can look like having a conversation. It can look like putting yourself out there. If you're an entrepreneur or a business owner, or if you have anything that you're working on. It can look like having a vulnerable conversation at work. Maybe there's something that has been coming up for you at work that needs to be expressed, so allowing yourself the freedom to go there and see what's on the other side of it for you. And that is what I have for you for today's episode.
Speaker 1:So, quick recap if you want to receive the monthly newsletter it goes out on April 1st you can sign up to receive it. In the show notes, we talked about moving from feeling stuck to feeling seen and owning your self-expression. We talked about some of the blocks that might come up if this is something that you do experience, and we talked about what it would feel like to be in your body and feeling fully expressed and what you would create from that place. So, and one thing that I wanted to share with you I realized I have it at the bottom of my notes here, so I'm just going to throw this in at the end is that one thing that I've been doing, that I've been absolutely loving and this is in the monthly newsletter for the month of March. I think it's the mantra for the month of March actually is uh, I am, is the mantra is I am a creative and I love that.
Speaker 1:I think that that affirmation is so fun. It releases the need to be perfect, it allows you to show up in your creative flow and it's really fun. So it's like if you were to wake up in the morning and you were to say to yourself like I am a creative, like what would that version of you, how would she get dressed? How would she show up in the world? Like? It's such, like a liberating thing. I don't know, so wanted to share that with you. Take it as a tool in the toolkit, try it on for size, let me know how it goes. Send me a DM, let me know. And yeah, that's the last thing I had for you today.
Speaker 1:So thank you so much for tuning in for today's episode. I hope that you have an incredible rest of your week. I hope you have an incredible rest of your day and I will talk to you soon.
