Speaker 1:

Welcome back to another episode of the Somatic Healing Podcast. I'm Rae, I'm a breathwork facilitator and somatic coach, and if you are new here, welcome, and if you aren't new here, welcome back. I'm so glad that you're tuning in for today's episode. So for today's episode, I really wanted to dive into this topic of navigating different identity changes, transitions, shifts in our life, because we are moving from the end of summer into the fall and this transition can shake things up for so many of us, and so I figured there's, you know, no better time to chat it up on this topic than right now. So I'm going to share with you these three main ideas to help you navigate any change, and, yeah, I'm looking forward to today's episode. I hope you enjoy it. So I wanted to kick things off by talking about changes that can happen with our identity, and this can happen when you are, you know, maybe starting a new job, a new relationship, maybe a new responsibility, like becoming a mother or becoming a student, or becoming something. So an identity change. I think it's important to differentiate, because they do happen seasonally, yes, and other times they can sort of just happen unexpectedly. So I love doing identity work because there is this moment of uncertainty, like things are changing, things are shifting and this can be unsettling to the you know really at like the core of who we are, depending on exactly what the big change is, and that can cause a lot of questions, consciously or subconsciously, like with this change, who am I? And why? I love this kind of idea so much is that it's an opportunity for us really to connect with our core values, and that's something that I've talked about on the podcast quite a bit. There's a few different core value exercises that you can look up and take on yourself. But by doing a core values exercise or just checking in with what your personal values might be, they help you to really re-ground into what is important to you, into the being of who you are. And when something is changing in our life, it can feel really scary when that gets shaken up, and the truth is that you are always, you know, an evolving person. Like you will always be changing, and I know, if you're here listening to this podcast, that means that you're ambitious, you're driven, you have a vision, which means that you'll absolutely be going through various transformations and identity shifts, and so all of this is to say that these changes can be super dysregulating at times, and when you are able to have clarity around what your core values are and lean on them, revisit them, check in on what they might be for you, you have a strong foundation of who you are and these will guide you right back to that place of embodiment and self-knowing. So if this season feels, or this transition feels, unsettling for you, check in with those core values. Allow it to support you in grounding in again to who you are.

Speaker 1:

And identity changes are a bit different than transitions. Transitions are really like an event or something, that a big change that is happening that will have like a before and an after. So, for example, you're like ending one job and you're starting another. Or you had a lot of time off in the summer teachers and now you're going back to school and maybe you have kids that are going back to school. So these are like little examples of like tangible transitions that we all experience, these little micro transitions all throughout the year, but in particular around this time of year. These are some of like the common ones and these can be unsettling because changes involved. It could be big changes, it could be small changes. So how can we move through the transition and regulate, manage, cope with any anxiety or fear that it brings up. And it's also funny enough around this time of year that I see a big increase in client inquiries, bookings and also a lot of client endings. And it makes perfect sense because it's around this time of year. Things are getting really shaken up. It's a big transition for so many people and it makes sense that you would be like looking at okay, what am I putting my energy into in my life and what would feel most in alignment for me.

Speaker 1:

And so three things that I would love to offer you as support through this transition. The first is name it, to tame it. So what is actually coming up for you around the season that's changing? Are you feeling excited? Are you feeling excited? Are you feeling nervous? Are you feeling sad? Are you feeling everything all of the above? But when you have a chance to name what is exactly coming up for you, that will help you to know more about what you might need. And this might take some time If you are, you know, highly aware. There might even be some like layers here. So, you know, reflect and kind of see what might be here for you right now and then.

Speaker 1:

The second tool I would love to share with you is reflect on all of the times that you have gone through transitions and changes and you have come out the other side feeling stronger, feeling better, and this has happened so, so, so many times. Like you are so resilient and so often we go through these changes and we either kind of like brace ourselves through the whole thing or we don't give ourselves enough credit for, maybe, the challenges that we overcame. So give yourself a moment to reflect and see that you've been here before. Most likely you have gone through a change or a transition in the past and you have come out the other side feeling stronger. And then the third tool that I would love to share with you is check in with your sense of safety. So give yourself the time to pause, connect with the elements outside. Sometimes, with these transitions, we want to hold onto things tightly for what they are incredible summer or something, or maybe we didn't get to do everything that we had hoped and now we have more on our plate in the fall, you know, whatever it might be. But give yourself a few minutes to breathe and create space for you to find a sense of safety. That way you can do these two practices that I just named. So name it to tame it. Reflect on all of the times that you've been resilient and made it through a transition and give yourself that time and space, because that will help you to feel so much more grounded, so much more safe. You'll be able to, you know, flow through the changes rather than kind of like brace yourself through it. And if you are feeling like this change or this transition or this identity shift is feeling more of like an opening for you, like something is ending, and you're like excited, you're like I am so ready to rock for this next season opportunity to check in with your vision. So what would be your intention for the next few months? What might be your intention for the rest of the year? Are there some qualities of this season that you would love to bring with you into the next season? Like, for example, for me, I just love the flow of summer. Like some days I feel like things are just flowing so nicely.

Speaker 1:

The other day my friend had a friend in town from Um. My friend had a friend in town from London and so she wanted to come down to the beach to hang out with me because he was flying out from JFK, which is like one of the airports close to me. So it was amazing. Like I had this was like sporadic too. I had a few clients in the morning. She came down around like 12, 15. I went to the beach until like two 30 with them, so I got to like hang out with my friends in the middle of the morning. She came down around like 12, 15. I went to the beach until like 2.30 with them, so I got to like hang out with my friends in the middle of the day. And then I had clients from like 3.30 to 7. And I was just like this is like the coolest day ever, like I would like. It was just so random and it was so fun that I got to like hang out with one of my best friends. Like work in the morning, work in the evening. I was like this is like an ideal day Go to the beach. It was just, it was magic.

Speaker 1:

So I personally would love to carry some of that flow and some of that magic with me into this next season. No idea what it'll look like, but I would love to. But it's one thing I would love to carry with me, and I'm also checking in with my vision for like what I want the end of this year to look like, like what I want these next few months to look like, and I think one thing that I can just name right off the top of my head is that I want to make sure that I plan a weekend to go hiking. That is something that is important to me, and I'm toying around with the idea of going hiking for my birthday. That would be like this upcoming month, september 25th, so that would make me happy and that's simple, like that's. I guess that's like a small thing, but you know, I can get caught in the worries too sometimes, or like thinking super big or grand about a vision, and so sometimes simplicity just feels like really good to me right now. So that is something that I'm looking forward to and something that I'm hoping to bring with me into the fall.

Speaker 1:

And so a quick recap of some of the things that we chatted about today. We talked about navigating identity, core values. We talked about moving through different transitions and a few tools that you can use to help you with that transition that's happening. Revisiting your vision, checking in with what you would like the back half or really the last few months of this year to look like, which is so crazy. But yeah, that's what we have for today's episode. So, as always, thank you so much for tuning in to today's episode.

Speaker 1:

If you didn't hear, at the end of last week's episode I shared that I'm trying this new thing where you can check it out in the show notes and you can submit like a question or a share or a win or a testimonial, something that you're loving about the podcast, something that you would love to hear more about on the podcast, and you can do that right in the show notes through sending me a voice note.
