Welcome Back And A Needed Break
SPEAKER_00Welcome back to the podcast. If you are new here, I'm Ray. I'm a breathwork facilitator and somatic coach. And if you aren't new here, welcome back. I'm so glad that you are tuning in for today's episode. For today's episode, I'm so excited for this topic. It's a little bit fun and different and vulnerable. And yeah, I took a little bit of a break from the podcast two weeks ago, and I'm considering switching to bi-weekly episodes. I'm not sure yet, so stay tuned for if that change happens. But I can say that this little break was very needed. It really allowed me some time and space to connect with why I have this podcast and why it's so important to me. And it allowed me also some time to rest. I did share in my last episode that I had quite a spring cleaning that came into my life. And yeah, it allowed me the time that I really needed to reconnect with my mission and why I do this kind of work in the world. And I did recently go on a trip to the Galapagos in Ecuador, and it was an absolutely amazing trip, bit of a roller coaster of a trip. But one part in particular that stood out to me was the people that I met while I was in Ecuador. And there's one in particular that I remember because you could just see how he was so embodied in his work. Like he really was living in his purpose, and it was just so amazing to see and witness somebody loving so much about like what
Why Meaningful Work Matters
SPEAKER_00they do. And it really inspired me to ask myself some questions, and it was really moving for me, which is what led me to create this episode: The Psychology of Meaningful Work. And I don't think that meaningful work means like quitting your job and becoming a business owner, and you know, like this myth of like do what you love and you will never work a day in your life. I don't know if that's exactly true. Um, still figuring that out. And if it is something that you want to do where you are interested in like becoming a business owner and having that be like your full-time thing, there are many steps, and that would be a, you know, totally different episode. But I think that meaningful work really means being in alignment with who you are internally, like having your core values be clear and having that match how you move through the world. And that means that you could show up in so many different ways in your life and feel connected to your work and feel like you're living on purpose and living with meaning. And I'll touch on that in a few minutes, a few moments, I should say.
Survival Mode Blocks Purpose
SPEAKER_00But um one of the things that I think really prevents people from feeling like they're connected to their work is a few different things. Uh, one is that they might be operating out of survival mode. This is very real. You know, this could be from childhood trauma, from burnout, from society's timelines and feeling like you need to be doing certain things in a certain way. And I think it could also be from nervous system dysregulation. So having this big disconnect between the mind and the body. And so you don't really know or understand what's going on on the inside. But what you do know is that you're tired or unhappy or frustrated or angry, or just something like isn't working. And because of this feeling, they might make decisions out of fear or conditioning from childhood, and that's simply because they just don't know. So those are two reasons I think that prevent people from feeling like they're connected to what they do and feeling connected to their work. And to
Grief That Sparked A New Path
SPEAKER_00share a little bit around my personal journey of how I found my founded my business and this podcast, for example, is I really found this work, somatic work, breath work, podcasting, my whole business from overcoming and navigating a lot of struggle and pain. I really struggled throughout my life with confidence, relationships. And when my dad had passed away, I was really devastated. It was really what opened me up to so many new relationships, new friendships, new ways of thinking. That's how I found breath work was I was on this journey of like putting one foot in front of the other, navigating a lot of grief. And it was really a catalyst for a lot of the go growth that I've experienced over the past few years. And fast forward to today, I'm really navigating, you know, different timelines, like really trying to stay true to myself and my word, uh for navigating different forms of expression, processing trauma, navigating different fears. And one thread I've what of what I've learned recently is really deeply understanding myself. I know this is something that I've talked about in the podcast previously, but really deeply understanding myself, what's important to me, my values, how important it is for me to be like having fun and being in community. And so on this journey of navigating all of the, all of the grief, perfectionism, anxiety, I found myself creating this business of somatic work and coaching. And what I really love about what I've created is that I know that as I grow, the business will grow with me. And so as I evolve and I change and my interests change and I learn, the business will shift too. And so it's there's a lot of meaning for me in it naturally, because it's a lot of what I share about is either things that I've been through or things that I'm learning or processing. And the more that I find meaning in the work and that I've experienced and that I share, the business will continue to evolve, but the foundation will always remain the same, which is really based around service, being of service and sharing my passion and using that passion and service to help other people.
Five Core Values Behind The Business
SPEAKER_00And I do have five core values in my business that I'll share uh briefly with you here. Maybe I'll elaborate on them a little bit. We'll see, we'll see what comes through. But the first one is service, and that looks like being of service to others, showing up with care, generosity, being in integrity. It includes helping a diverse group of people, different perspectives, really wanting to create a space where people feel supported, respected, valued, and seen. So that is my version of what service means to me and my business. Another is education. So I am so committed to lifelong learning. I am such a nerd. I love it. I'm always reading or listening or growing. It's just something that will always be a part of who I am, and that's definitely ingrained into my business. I think that knowledge helps with awareness, it helps with healing and transformation. And I really value education as something that feels like embodied to me. So I don't want to teach or share something that I haven't embodied myself. And so that looks like it's something that I've applied, I've practiced, and I integrated myself into my daily life. And I think that is really important as well. And my third business value is leadership and growth. And so this looks like how can we make our pain and struggles and challenges a part of the human experience where it doesn't feel like we are suffering. It feels like we've integrated, we've grown, we have a growth mindset. And again, this is something that I think embodiment is really a big part of. It means leading by example through integrity, being taking responsibility for my own emotion, having healthy boundaries, and you know, continuing to grow and learn and change. And then my fourth business value is community and connection. And so this really looks like being in shared experience and being in connection with other people, finding community, being a space that people can come to to feel safe and seen and supported with other people. So creating those group spaces, um, having good relationships in the community, being somebody that uh supports other people and also receives work from other people, and having those spaces that I do create for groups and community being rooted in compassion and curiosity and belonging. And then the fifth core value of my business is creativity. And so this looks like really creating a space for authentic expression, for joy, for play, for freedom, and letting go of that perfectionism, letting go of the pressure and allowing our true selves for myself and for my clients to come through. So really feeling connected to your creativity and having these spaces be a place where you feel like you can truly express yourself. And so I share these core values because maybe you are also on this journey of having a business or a mission or a desire to discover what that might be, something that you're passionate about. And maybe it's not about finding like one thing or one perfect purpose or a meaning, but maybe it's about creating your life in a way that feels more aligned, alive, connected, and true to you over time.
Three Steps Toward Alignment
SPEAKER_00And I'm also going to share in a few moments here a few ways that you'll be able to do this. Which leads me to kind of a few steps that I think really are helpful for being connected to your work and finding meaning in your work, whatever that might be. Like I said, whether it's like your everyday life, putting one foot in front of the other, whether it's a business or being a part of a community organization, whatever that might be like, whatever that might look like. I'm sorry. So the first is getting clear on what your core values are. This will help you as an individual. This will help you in your work. This will help you as a leader in the world. Knowing what is important to you and why those things are important to you is something that you can always return back to. It's so foundational. And these values can also change. So, you know, different seasons of life, things will shift and different things will become important, and that's okay. And then the second is we talked a little bit about the nervous system, is getting familiar with your nervous system. So different nervous system states will impact your capacity to show up in your work. If you are feeling dysregulated, disconnected, depleted, if you are feeling confusion or like you can't express yourself for some reason, or there's things that are happening in your life that don't necessarily like make sense, but you know something is not um completely aligned. How can you best support your nervous system? What might your nervous system be communicating to you? And how can you make that relationship one that feels safe and clear? And then the third would be being in community, surrounding yourself with people that are like-minded, that you find inspiring in some way. It would allow your momentum to grow, and of course, it will be super fun.
What Meaning Can Look Like
SPEAKER_00And so that is what we have for today's episode. I hope that you enjoyed today's episode. I think that meaningful work really means being in alignment with who you are internally and how you move through the world. And know that you can do that in so many different ways in life. So, whatever you are passionate about, whatever is exciting to you, if you feel like you need some support and navigating these areas to bring more meaning and passion into your life, um, do just that. I'm here to guide you and support you and know that I believe in you. So, thank you so much for tuning in for today's episode. I hope that you have an incredible rest of your week.
