The Hearts Hello

Huh? Ask a better question.

Keona Ellerbe Season 2 Episode 32

Are your questions holding you back? That nagging feeling of being stuck might not be because you lack answers, but because you're asking the wrong questions altogether.

Today we dive deep into the transformative power of better questioning. I share a pivotal lesson from a mentor who taught me to stop asking successful people "how did you get here?" and start asking "who did you need to become?" - a subtle shift that opens doors to genuine wisdom rather than surface-level advice. The quality of your questions directly determines the quality of your life experience.

Small questions trap us in cycles of limitation and fear. When we ask "Why is this happening to me?" we remain victims of circumstance. But when we shift to "What is this teaching me?" we become active participants in our growth. Similarly, replacing "What if I fail?" with "What would I learn if I tried?" transforms potential paralysis into powerful momentum. These aren't mere semantic games - they're doorways to entirely different ways of being.

Life consistently presents us with the same tests until we learn their lessons. If you find yourself facing recurring challenges, perhaps it's time to question your questions. This week, I challenge you to identify one limiting question that appears regularly in your thinking and deliberately replace it with a bigger, more empowering one. Share your experience with me on Instagram as you discover that to ask bigger is truly to live bigger. Your breakthrough awaits in the questions you haven't yet dared to ask.

Speaker 1:

Hey Heart Seekers, welcome to the Hearts Hello Show, where our hearts are the foundation of our well-being and happiness. I am your host, kiana Talena Yep. We are still in this month of no longer playing small. In today's episode, we are going to break down the art of asking bigger questions to unlock growth and possibility. See, the questions we ask determine the answers that we receive. I'll say that again the questions we ask determine the answers we receive. So, as we are looking to level up, as we are trying to make sure that we are not stuck and that we are shifting our perspective and being authentic in who we are and all of these amazing things, we have to begin to ask better questions.

Speaker 1:

I remember a time where my mentor gave us this challenge. We were all at a conference and there were some big names there and he was trying to get us to network and in networking you can see these individuals based off of the pins that they had, what level they were on, and he prepped us to make sure that we were not going to ask them how did you get to this level? The better question is who did you need to become in order to get here? Doesn't that just sound better, not. How did you get to this level? Who did you need to become? What books did you need to read? What podcast did you need to listen to? What YouTube videos were you watching? Who were you gleaming from? These are the questions that we were prompted to ask these individuals when we saw them, because just asking the question how did you get here? Helps us in no way shape, form or fashion. So if I ask you, what book did you read? And then to answer that with well, what was it that you got from this book that helped you to get to where you are, is a better question. So I'm hoping that you're understanding what I'm saying, because I want us to get to the next level, and when I say us, I'm always talking about the group of us, because we're always growing, we're always learning something new each and every day, and I have not arrived yet. I'm sharing with you information that I have put to use and that has worked for me.

Speaker 1:

But as we go to these different levels, there are going to be different questions that we need to ask. So if you're going for a job that may be a hundred thousand dollars, you're going to ask one set of questions, but when you begin to go after those jobs that are multiple, six figures, your questions need to be a little different. Your questions need to be a little different, your posture needs to be a little different, your character needs to be a little different, because you have to be different in order to show up in that room. So the question that I have for you is what if the reason you feel stuck isn't that you don't have the answers, but that you're asking the wrong questions? I'll say that again for the note takers what if the reason you feel stuck isn't that you don't have the answers, but that you're asking the wrong questions?

Speaker 1:

See, the problem with small questions is that they're limiting. For example, why is this happening to me? What if I fail? Why can't I figure this out? All of these questions keep us in a cycle of fear, doubt and inaction. But if we reframe to bigger and more empowering questions instead of what if I fail, you could ask what would I learn if I tried? Instead of why is this happening to me, your question should be what is this teaching me? Instead, of, what should I do ask why do I need to become? I'm sorry, who do I need to become to reach my goal. See, these questions lead us to breakthrough, not just for ourselves, but for others. And so how do we begin to cultivate this habit of asking better questions? We have to practice curiosity instead of fear. We have to begin to journal and reflect daily on open-ended, possibility-driven questions, and we need to surround ourselves with people who are going to challenge our thinking, who are going to challenge our thinking.

Speaker 1:

So I'm not going to keep you long, because I feel like that there's some work that needs to be done in this area. There are some questions that not only do you need to ask others, but questions that you need to ask yourself. So when you're saying, how did I get here? What test did I fail Again to get to this place? Because I've said it before that you will continually take a test over and over again until you pass it.

Speaker 1:

The same thing happens with life. There are going to be cycles that happen in our lives, and if we do not pass the test, we will get that same test over again. So your challenge this week is to replace a small, limiting question with a bigger one, and I want you to share your question with me on Instagram. I need you to understand that the quality of your life is directly tied to the quality of your question. So, ask bigger and you'll live bigger. That's it. That's all I have for you this week, because I want you to go and do the work. I want us to be the best version of ourselves, and in being the best version of ourselves, we have to ask better questions. So until next week.
