SPEAKER_00:

Hi, I'm Laura Orlando and welcome to the Build Strong Women podcast. I believe as women that we are the role models for the next generation of girls. So how do we become the best role models for these young girls? We work hard to become the best version of ourselves, whatever that means to you. It's not easy. It takes work. It takes learning, trying new things, falling down and getting back up again. But that's what we do on the show. We dive deep into how we can grow on the inside. We will learn from women that are on the same journey as us. Just trying to become the best version of themselves. Let's learn together, build our confidence, learn to love who we are so that we can teach the next generation of girls to grow up to be strong and confident women. Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode of the Bill Strong Woman Podcast. Thank you so much for tuning in to this week's episode. It is the second week of June and I am so excited about what's coming up on June 23rd. So if you have been craving a reset, not the kind where you like completely overhaul your life because it is summer, but the kind where you just come back to you, I want you to join me on my Summer Promise Challenge. It's a five-week experience where you will make small, meaningful promise to yourself and you're going to follow through and actually keep it I am going to help you follow through on the promise you make to yourself because confidence doesn't come from doing all the things it comes from showing up in small moments with intention and that's what this challenge is all about you're going to get a digital promise journal weekly encouragement from me you're going to get mindset tools to help you space to reflect and to grow and what's really great going to happen is that you're going to start showing up for you. You are going to start following through on the things that you promised yourself no matter what. So we start June 23rd and I'm going to be sending out the promise journal on June 26th. So now is your time to jump in. I want you to remember you don't have to do this perfectly. You just have to start. I remember last summer I was just in a bad place and I just knew that there was something not right and what it was is I wasn't breaking promises to myself I wasn't following through on the things that made me feel good and then I'd wake up and I'd feel guilty and I just it was like the same cycle over and over until I committed to making a promise to myself with intention and this time this summer I want to help you make promises to yourself and follow through on them because we can't just keep waking up and saying okay I'm going to wait for Monday I'm going to wait for next week I'll start over then no we're not going to do that anymore because it just brings down our confidence we feel guilty inside and we just feel like crap inside. That's the bottom line and I don't want women to feel like that anymore. I talk to so many women that they just feel just yuck inside and they don't know why and it's because they're not following through on the things that they know that help them feel good and that's what this promise challenge is all about. This summer promise is a time for you to go back to who you really are make these beautiful promises and actually keep them and i'm going to help you do that and that is my mission this summer and i know you might be thinking like summer is just a crazy time but no this is just something really simple a simple one simple promise you make to yourself and you keep it that's it and we're going to journal about it every day and just like keep ourselves accountable it's not these long journal pages it's a quick check-in be intentional for the day follow through and you're going to feel so much better you're going to grow your confidence you're going to follow through on something and you're going to start trusting yourself again and that's what this prompt summer promise is all about so i hope that you'll join me i hope that you'll go down to the show notes and join me and so many other women that have already signed up i'm so excited we're starting june 23rd and you'll get sent the journal on june 16th so head over to the show notes and please please join us for the summer promise okay so let's dive into this week's topic it's all about mindset one of my So I think that I love talking about the mindset because I never really understood it. I never understood how important it was for me to work on my mindset. The mindset is something that really impacts how you feel, how you show up, how you speak to yourself, and what you believe is actually possible in your life. So I want you to understand that one of the happy habits that I have in my life is working on my mindset. So I have another episode. It is all about mindset. movement and that is another happy habit that I have I created these buckets where the little things that I was doing every day these habits were falling under these certain buckets so I had a movement bucket I have a mindset bucket I have one that brings me joy one that brings me peace and one that brings me connection they're all kind of these little things that I do that really help me feel good so if you can like start doing little habits in your life that fall under these little categories or buckets like I like to call them you're going to feel better inside So I talked about the movement happy habit and today I'm going to talk about the mindset happy habit that I have and it's one that I think is really, really important. I have struggled with anxiety and I had struggled with mild depression before and I never realized how important it was for me to continue to work on my mindset and my emotional and mental health. All of us need to keep working on it. It's not something you just do. I'm going to work on my mindset, my mental health today and I'm not going to do it for like another couple months. Absolutely not. It is something that you have to work on every day. It's a journey and I'm going to be working on this for the rest of my life and I'm okay with it because I know when I work on my mindset, I'm going to feel better inside. It's everything to me. I am constantly looking for ways to improve in all different areas of my life and what makes me feel good and what makes me feel better and just what doesn't make me feel like crap. Like I need to know. And working on my mindset is one of the number one things that I need to work on because I know that I can fall into a negative trap. I can just start feeling down on myself and I don't want to do that. So I have to work on my mindset. So let's kind of talk about what mindset is and where we can start with this because mindset isn't about pretending that everything's finding in just like putting a smile on our face and saying I can do this and I feel fine. No, that's not what it's about. I know so many people that look like they're so happy on the outside, but they are really struggling in on the inside and I'm sure that all of us have done that at some point where we are really struggling inside and we just put this big smile on our face because that's what we think we have to do when someone asks us how we are we usually just say good you even though that's not how we feel inside your mindset really controls what you believe about yourself what your self-worth is and the ability to change and to grow and here's the thing you can always build a better mindset that's why I have to work on it every single day that's why I want you to to start working on it every single day. And that's the coolest part about what I've learned about personal development in this whole journey. It's not by changing everything at once, but by creating small, little, consistent habits that make it easier for you to have a more positive mindset, have more courage, have more hope for yourself. Even when things feel really heavy, personal development has taught me that I can grow and change no matter what if I am willing to do the work. And that's what I want you to understand. understand too if you have like a sucky mindset right now it's okay if you're kind of negative all the time or you kind of think bad thoughts or you have you know a negative self-talk it's okay we can work on those things we all have to work on those things sometimes we're just naturally negative I know I am I have to work on my mindset and it's okay to be that way don't think that you have something wrong with you or like why am I always negative why am I down a lot of the time it's okay It is something that you can work on and it's something that you can create habits around to help you have a more positive outlook and mindset. So let's talk about how our habits, our happy habits, shape our mindset and how they can help us. Your habits are this daily proof of what you believe. So that's why it's so important for us to work on it. So When you start choosing habits that support your mental health and support your well-being, you're going to feel better inside. Even if it's these small little things that you do, these small little shifts, it's going to change your mindset. And that's why I absolutely have loved using my promise journal because it has helped me be super intentional about my mindset. I start out with gratitude. I start out with reading my promises to myself. You don't have to wait for a better mindset to start taking action you have to act the way you want your mind to feel through those habits and all of these habits are going to help you with your mind and your body and just help you to feel so much better and we have to really flip that script sometimes we just say you know well when I do this and when I have this then I'll have a better mindset no you have to start doing it now you have to start taking action right away to have a better mindset and it might just be small little things that you do and and only makes a small little difference, but each day it's going to add up. It's going to make a difference if you keep pushing forward. So I want to talk about some small habits that support a healthy mindset and some things that I've incorporated into my life. And it's not something you have to do. I just wanted to give you some really powerful habits that you can maybe try and start. There's no pressure into doing this. I just wanted to really give you some ideas because sometimes people think, what am I supposed to do with my mindset? How is that even going to work? What do I even do? They don't understand how to work on their mindset or that they even need to work on their mindset. They think, oh, this is just the way I am. But I don't believe in that at all. I believe that everyone has the ability to grow and to change and if you don't like a way the way that you feel and you don't like your mindset it's maybe it's a little negative you have the ability to change that you have always had the power now you just need to believe in yourself and take little action in doing it this is why this is such an important happy habit your mindset is something you have to work on so that you can feel positive you can feel like you know what I can grow in my life and I'm going to feel better when I do these little things So the first thing that I do in my mornings to start off my mindset in a positive direction is that I exercise. And I'm not telling you that you have to exercise in the morning, but I'm going to tell you right now, moving your body will change your mind, will change your life. If I don't work out, my mindset is not in a good place. I just feel like I have so much going on in my head. I don't feel free. I don't feel like I did something for myself and I just feel not very good inside. I need to move my body to get those. I say it all the time. I get those toxins out of my body to get those toxins out of my brain. It just frees me up and makes me feel good. So what I always say that I work out for my mind and it is completely true. I know that doesn't seem like a mindset hack, but it really truly is. Move your body, walk for 10 minutes, walk around your house. I don't care what it is. Just move your body, get your heartbeat going a little bit, sweat a little bit. It's going to change your life. It's It's going to change your mindset. I'm telling you, I work out for my mind and it has made a complete difference. Another thing that I do is that I use my promise journal. Every single day, I write down things that I'm grateful for. I jot down one to three things, up to six things, whatever is on my mind. It's kind of just like free flowing. I try to write down things that happen within the last 24 hours. Gratitude really rewires your brain to notice the good things. Even when life stinks and it's hard, you can see these things that really make you happy. Sometimes it's my cup of coffee. Sometimes it's the great conversation that I had with my kids. It can be big things. It can be little things. But I really like to write down things that happened within the past 24 hours. It just makes me feel grounded. It makes me smile. It makes me feel good. Like, you know what? I have a lot of great things in my life and it makes me feel really grateful. So start out doing some gratitude. And in my promise journal that I have, I do gratitude every single day. It's the first thing that we do. It's so important. The next thing you could do is that you could do like a little check-in with yourself, kind of like a morning grounding where you give yourself like two to three minutes in the morning just to be still. You could just be like laying in your bed still and ask yourself, how do you feel this morning? How do you feel today? How do you want to set up your day and really take a little bit of time to set an intention? for how you're going to get through your day. This helps you lead your day with purpose and not just like getting up on a whim and just going. You're going to set your intention for the day. I'm going to choose to be positive today. I'm going to have a positive outlook. I'm going to look for great things that are going on in my life. I am so grateful for this life that I have. Set an intention before your feet even hit the ground. It's so important and it can really help you set the tone for your day. And the next thing that you could do for mindset hacks and another mindset happy habit would be just choose a thought for the day. Choose kind of like an affirmation that will support you on this journey that you're on for your mindset. Pick a thought that supports your growth that you really want to grow in. I'm a huge fan of affirmations and just having something that you can go back to that really gives you power. One of my favorite affirmations I say is I can do hard things. When things get hard, when things get tough, no matter where I am if I say that to myself it kind of helps me be like yes I can do hard things it proves and shows that I can do the things that I really want to do I can fight through these hard times these hard thoughts or whatever it is that I'm doing so when these negative things creep into my mind I have this power thought that I can go back to this affirmation and it really picks me back up it really helps me and says yes this is the kind of person that I want to be I want to be someone that can do hard things even though it's hard and it's uncomfortable, I'm going to do it anyway. So choose a thought that can get you through your day. And an affirmation or whatever you want to call it, just pick something that supports you on the journey that you're on. The next thing you can do is you can Start thinking about your day and trying to eliminate something that really drains you. Our mindset isn't just built on what you add. It can also be about something that you get rid of or you let go of. Because sometimes we have things in our life that absolutely drain us and our minds and we just, we can't take it. So sometimes it could be on social media. Maybe you need to unfollow certain accounts or maybe you need to, Turn it off a couple hours before you go to bed. You need to decide what's best for you. And there are times in our life where we have to say no to people. We can't do all the things. I have been on this journey of feeling guilty for not doing everything. People will ask us to do something and, you know, we have just been going and going and going. And if I don't do it, I feel guilty. So I really have to start working on that guilt and not feeling so guilty and doing the best that I can. And my husband has been telling me this all over and over you can't feel guilty every time you have to say no but sometimes we have to say no when things are too much because it will drain us we have to start eliminating things that drain us and not adding one more thing on you know the less noise we have the more clarity we're going to have in our mindset and the freer that we're going to feel so the last happy habit that I want to talk about for mindset is just really learning to celebrate the tiny wins that we have at the end End of the week, you can ask yourself, where did I show up for myself? What are the promises that I kept for myself this week? Maybe you set a boundary. Maybe you drank more water. Maybe you moved your body. Maybe you rested instead of pushing. Maybe you said no to someone. Every win counts. A better mindset grows from you noticing all of the efforts that you put in. If you can go back and be like, oh my gosh, I did all these things for myself this week. I really... Followed through on the things that I wanted to do. I moved my body four times this week. I drank more water. I chose to eat more vegetables instead of chips. Whatever it was for you... Celebrate that. You have to celebrate those little things. Even if you said it to someone else and they think that that's crazy and dumb, it's not to you. Those things matter to you and those are the things that make you feel good and lift you up. You have to celebrate those tiny wins. So that is a happy habit that you could do for your mindset. Celebrating those wins. Reducing something that drains you. Not adding something on. Taking something away. Get something out of your mind. Choosing affirmations. Moving your body. Having a gratitude practice every morning. I will say that till I'm blue in the face. Having gratitude is going to help with your mindset. And of course, having a grounding session with yourself, even if it's just laying in your bed for one minute and telling yourself, okay, how do I feel today? How am I going to show up today? You need to have these little things in your life, these happy habits for your mind that help you feel good. So I want to remind you as we're talking about these happy habits, especially the mindset one, that even if you start small, it's going to help you. Your mindset won't like completely shift. You're not going to wake up the next day and be like, oh my gosh, I'm completely positive all the time. No. But when you start working on it a little bit at a time and you make an effort, you're in helping your mindset, you will see a shift. All of these small actions are going to go to your mind and it's going to tell your mind that you're worth it. You're worth this effort. And this is what I mean. Keep the promise. Create a habit around that promise and your confidence is going to grow. You don't need to be perfect. Absolutely not. You just need to be willing to be intentional and to show up every single day for yourself and to know that you're worth it because you are worth it and you deserve to take the time to help your mindset feel better. And all of these little habits that you create in your life around the promises that you make to yourself are are going to help you follow through really making sure that you're working on your mindset every day and really making sure that you're adding in movement to your day is going to really change your life. And that's why I wanted to really talk about those two first, because they are so important. I don't think that everyone just wakes up and has this great positive mindset. I really think it's something that we have to work on. I know I do. And it's something that I want to teach my children. Like, you know, we really kind of have to work on ourselves and work on our mindset. And it's going to be up and down and grow and change and that's okay so I'd love for you to pick just one happy habit for your mindset that you can just try this week just try one one little thing maybe lay in bed and just you know tell yourself what kind of day you're going to have this today how are you going to feel how are you going to show up what intention are you going to set maybe start a little gratitude practice maybe you want to join my summer promise challenge which would be completely amazing because that's what we talk about in this challenge we pick a promise and we create these habits around the promises to help us follow through. I really want you to live a life that you love with intention and just show up for yourself every single day because when you show up for yourself every single day and you do the work on yourself, you feel so much better inside yourself. I have really grown my confidence since I started really working on myself. You would not even believe. You would not even believe how I used to think about myself and now how I feel about myself. And I designed the Summer Promise Challenge not to be just one more thing in your life, but to really help you follow through and grow your mindset and so that you can feel better every single day. I'm always cheering for you. I always want you to grow and to love yourself more and more every single day and that's what this is all about. So I really hope that you'll try one of these mindset happy habits that we talked about and that was just kind of a deep dive into what mindset is and how we need to work on it and why it's so important. So I just want to say thank you so much for spending time with me and if this episode was helpful or any other episode was helpful and if you're loving this podcast I would love for you to share it with a friend or tag me and share it on Instagram and I just really want to celebrate this with you and I would really love to just reach as many women as I can so as always I'd like to end this podcast episode with an affirmation to get you through your day and that affirmation is I have the power to change my thoughts and with that I can change my life I hope that you have a wonderful day and I will see you on next week's episode.
