Rediscovering Joy and Balance under the Palms

Robin Hackney Season 2 Episode 50

Ever found yourself battling with a favorite outfit that suddenly doesn't fit the same? Join me, Robin, as I navigate the unexpected challenges and delightful surprises of a spontaneous trip to sunny Orlando, Florida. With my incredibly talented sister Dana by my side, I've been soaking up the sun and the behind-the-scenes action of her grand convention. From the thrill of last-minute pivots to the joy of reconnecting with the simple pleasures of life, this trip has been a beautiful reminder of the importance of balance and gratitude.

Amidst the palm trees and poolside relaxation, I also faced a personal moment of realization—my trusty black dress no longer fits as it used to! It's a small yet telling reflection of my recent struggles with weight and self-care, something I know many of you can relate to. Listen in as I candidly share my journey of embracing these setbacks, finding motivation in pushing forward, and the importance of listening to our bodies. Join me in this heartwarming and honest episode as I express gratitude to everyone who made this experience possible and celebrate the company of loved ones.

Speaker 1:

Hello. Hello, it's Robin and thanks for listening today. Did you notice that there was no regular intro? There's not going to be an outro either. I'm in Florida on a trip with my sister and my laptop, for whatever reason, does not like the Wi-Fi here. It is so weird. So I'm sure it's a user error. But oh well, I'll just go with it. That happens so much in life.

Speaker 1:

Right, I have to give a shout out to my sister, Dana. First, because she reached out to me and asked if I wanted to come on this work trip of hers to Orlando. She said airfare was paid, hotel was paid. I mean I had to say yes, it was basically a free trip and with the ridiculously low temps in Kansas last week, it feels amazing here. So thank you to her for inviting me and to my clients for understanding.

Speaker 1:

I've had a good balance of relaxation and helping her and her staff put together a fabulous convention. She's put me to work a bit, like I said, and that's the second reason why I wanted to give her a shout out. It's been so fun watching her work. It's a convention for 500 people or maybe even more. I'm not sure I get to see her do all the things, juggling last minute pivots, seeing all the work they did a year in advance to get ready, and just to see her interact with her colleagues, board members, franchisee owners, vendors, all the people. She's awesome and I have very much enjoyed it and I can't lie. The warm weather and ability to sit by the pool and work out when I want, eat the dessert, sleep oh gosh, I feel so rested. It's truly felt like a vacation. I don't have to make any plans, I don't have to do anything but what I feel doing, except when I'm helping her, but it's been nice to do that too. I have been missing working alongside coworkers. So a thank you to her, to her staff, oh, to Bethany for teaching my classes. Thank you, Bethany, you are just a gem, I love you so much. And to my clients for saying go get out of here. And for Dave, of course, for holding down the fort at home.

Speaker 1:

So one thing that came up on this trip. This is kind of hard for me to admit and I have to share it, though, because I think so many of you can relate. I have this black dress that I take everywhere. I can dress it up, I can dress it down. You guys probably know the exact dress that I'm talking about. I might even put it in the picture for the graphic for today's episode. I don't know, it was a Fabletics find when I was following along with Fabletics and in their I don't know monthly find when I was following along with Fabletics and in their I don't know monthly membership, whatever it was. So I wish I would have purchased at least two more because I know eventually to wear out. I absolutely love it.

Speaker 1:

Oh, but I plan to wear it at the welcome party last night, and so I ran up to the room to change into it before I was going to help with the setup. It took a bit of wiggling, which it always does because it's somewhat form fitting, but after getting it in place I noticed my form wasn't fitting into it well, and this was the first time this had happened to me. You guys, I had boob fat like me, with boob fat not hanging over the sides under my armpits, but like squishing out the front and over the side. It was not a pretty sight, and I know that I've gained weight recently, and all of you that have noticed you're just so sweet for not saying anything. My workouts haven't been what they should be. Although I have corrected that, I feel like I've pushed myself even more. I had mentioned a few episodes back that I had an injury and I just let that hold me back, but actually I feel better now for pushing myself more and kind of pushing through that. So you kind of have to know your body on what that looks like for you. And my diet hasn't been what it should be. I've caved in on eating too much or drinking too much wine and even though I preach takeout processed foods, I have let several processed foods come back into my diet and since discovering the Yucca app, that has helped, because I'm really realizing all the crap that's in all the foods that I eat. Anyway, that's another episode, but I found myself in a place where a client would be when they came to me to start training. So I'm turning it around.

Speaker 1:

I'd love for you to join me. I'm gonna be sharing more tips on Instagram starting on Monday, March 3rd, and if you're feeling the same way I am as we head into spring and summer, or you just want to clean things up in your life a bit, please follow along. These are just going to be posts, it's not like a paid thing, and by posting it'll help hold me accountable and hopefully inspire you to stay on track. I would love for you to ask a friend to join you to help keep you accountable, so you can tag them in any post or share my content. If you want to send them my way and I can help direct them, that's great. The more the merrier.

Speaker 1:

I'm not going to lie. It is going to be hard for me to be vulnerable, but I think it needs to happen and it's just where I find myself and I've done this to myself. So it's time to undo it and thankfully I'm not like grossly out of control, you know, but I noticed the I guess probably eight to 10 pounds that I've gained. So that's where I am and I need to do this. So if you find that you need more help than what I'm posting, of course you can reach out to me. You guys know I have all kinds of options or programs. They range from $12 a month to over $400. So we can find something that works for you, because I have all kinds of options, but I truly just want you to be healthier and happier and I'm doing the same for me.

Speaker 1:

I think those that attend my in-person classes will notice a difference as well. With this rest and relaxation, I've had some time to do a little research and I'll be bringing more fun my version of fun to our 6 am and 8 am classes. So if you are in the Kansas City area, I would love for you to begin joining us. I can't wait. I love learning and I love sharing what I've learned. So watch out everybody. It's going to be great, it's going to be good.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so I think that's it for today. I have a free day. Yeah, I don't think my sister needs my help today and unfortunately it's raining. I'm hoping that passes. I know the high, only today is like maybe 69, but I'm not complaining. I know in Kansas City it's probably a little lower than that. But there's so many things to do on this property. We're staying at the Omni Resort at Champions Gate in Orlando and it's unbelievable. They have a Topgolf-like facility. They don't, obviously it's not Topgolf. They have two pools, they have a lazy river, they have putt-putt golf, they have surrey bikes, they have a great walking trail. I mean just all the things. Everything like five restaurants on property. It's cool. So if it stays gloomy, at least I'll be the only one on the lazy river because this Kansas girl is doing it all.

Speaker 1:

Oh, I do have one more request. If you haven't started following the podcast, please do so. Likely, there is a button or a plus sign in the upper right-hand corner. That's usually where it is on whatever platform you're listening on, so you can click that and click follow. And then sharing episodes also helps with the algorithm to get me out there, and you'll probably see some kind of arrow for that and it'll say share or copy link. You can post it on social media, you can text it to a friend, whatever it might be. So please do that. And, like I mentioned, I would love for you to follow me on Instagram. You can find my handle at spandexandwine all taped out. So yeah, I think that's it. Thank you so much and cheers. I will be seeing you soon.
