Spandex & Wine

Sorry I'm Late, I Was Napping at 8:30 AM

Robin Hackney Season 2 Episode 59

Ever had one of those nights where sleep just won't come? That's exactly where this journey begins—tossing and turning until finally surrendering to a 3 AM coffee and pre-dawn workout. But what follows is far more than sleep talk; it's a doorway into authentic wellness conversations that balance health with happiness.

Dive deep with me into the world of clean beauty as I share my month-long experiment with Zen Redhead's organic skincare line. Initially skeptical of their lighter consistency compared to conventional products, I discovered that consistency truly is key. After faithful nightly application, my skin transformed—softer, brighter, and free from the endocrine-disrupting chemicals I've been working to eliminate from my life. The essential oil scents might initially remind you of your grandmother (as they did me!), but the results speak for themselves. Ready to try for yourself? Code SPANDEX20 gives you 20% off through April. CLICK HERE

The conversation shifts to what might be the ultimate girlfriend getaway—Wine Camp in Virginia's stunning wine country. Picture this: two beautiful homes on a 3,500-acre property, a private pool, winery and brewery within walking distance, and a gorgeous lake with dock access. Beyond the wine tastings, we'll explore topics like manifesting your dreams, aging gracefully, and creating the life you truly want, all culminating in a hippie-themed "Wine Stock" celebration. This retreat perfectly embodies what balance means to me—movement, learning, connection, celebration, and yes, wine!

Most exciting of all is the announcement of my newest creation: The Happiness Blueprint. Born from my mission to help women become healthier and happier, this program offers simple shifts that create profound changes in how we experience daily life. Because who doesn't want more happiness? Not that we're unhappy people, but couldn't we all use more tools in our happiness arsenal?

Speaker 1:

Holy moly, last night was one of those nights where I could not sleep, and I've been doing really well lately, but the past two nights have been such a struggle. I know a lot of you can relate. I ended up flip-flopping in our bed, went into our extra bedroom, flip-flopped there, went back to our bedroom, then ended up just getting up at three something drinking a cup of coffee and I just thought I'm just going to go ahead and go into the gym, go to work and get my workout done before teaching my six o'clock class and then my next appointment wasn't until late morning, so I was napping by 8.30 AM. It is so frustrating. I know you can relate. I'm sorry if you can't take a nap at 8.30 in the morning when you really want to, but I know that tonight's going to be so much better. I can't wait. All right, did you see my podcast bracket challenge? I put it up on our Facebook group and also on my personal Facebook profile. It's just a fun play on March Madness, putting my top 16 most downloaded episodes up against each other to see who gets the most listens, and you get to determine who wins. A vote is a listen, a listen is a vote. So that's all you have to do. We did four matchups this past weekend and I'll resume next weekend, actually on Thursday, friday, saturday, sunday so you can watch for your favorite and be sure to go listen to give them a vote. I think I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think and I put this in the comments as well that you just have to listen for 60 plus seconds to get them their download. I'm pretty sure that's right. I'm not sure. I'll have to double check that. All right.

Speaker 1:

Today's episode is going to be a grab bag of sorts. It's already started out that way. I think it's my lack of sleep, I don't know. I recently told you, I was going to do some product reviews, so some of the guests that have been on I've purchased some of their products or I've just looked at different things that I've talked about on the podcast and purchased them and tried them. So I'm going to talk about that today one of the products and as well as an upcoming experience that you'll probably want to jump on with your bestie, and I'm also going to share something that I have up my sleeve for all of you. So let's start with a product review.

Speaker 1:

Do you remember me having Tamara Hutchins on the show? In her episode? We talked about her career in acupuncture, as well as her Zen Redhead organic skincare. So I purchased some of her products with the discount code that she graciously gave all of us. I was in need of new products because I had run out of what I'd been using. I wanted to support her and I loved the sound of organic products. After all, I've been working on removing endocrine disruptors that I put in on and around my body, so it just made sense All right.

Speaker 1:

At first I wasn't sure how I felt. They weren't the typical thick moisturizer and serum that you often see or use. I think you just kind of get used to those types of things. What I purchased was the Pure Geisha Cleansing Oil, which I love for removing makeup, the Angel Mist Hydrator love how that feels on my skin as well the Zen Polish Exfoliant I haven't used that as much and the Replenishing Facial Oil, which I really like, but I use them all sporadically, as is my typical practice. I am so bad about sticking to an evening routine with washing my face. I know that's terrible, but I'm working on it and it has gotten better. So I did ask one of my friends that also purchased the products what she thought, and she said she really enjoyed them and was going to purchase more. So I decided to give it a better effort and stick to the regimen nightly for a couple of weeks, or actually it was longer than that. It's probably been a month now to truly test them out. Lo and behold, it worked. I feel like my skin is softer and softer looking and even brighter, and I love the idea of essential oils in the products instead of like the fake smelly chemicals. But it did take a little bit of getting used to. I feel like I smell like my grandma when I use them, but I've embraced that and can say that I recommend her skincare line. I'm happy to say that. So a thank you to Tamara for creating such wonderful products and my friend Shella for encouraging me to stick with the plan. So I would see the results, and you can check out all the products at zenredheadskincarecom and use the code SPANDEX20 for 20% off through April 30th. That's a great deal, you guys, and I'm so happy that Tamra decided to extend that for us All. Right Now to the experience that you would want to jump on with your bestie.

Speaker 1:

When I started this podcast, I was still a wine guide with Traveling Vineyard doing in-home wine tastings, and they were so much fun and it gave me something that I didn't realize I needed in my life friendships, and since they've shut down, I have missed those relationships and seeing all those like-minded women and men at our annual conference. So my friend Penny and I have decided or actually this is the second year we've done this. It's not like we just decided this, but we are doing an annual trip called Wine Camp. This year we are traveling to Virginia wine country at the end of July and we have two homes rented at the gorgeous Mount Ida Reserve. Oh my gosh, you guys. It is spectacular. We have our own private pool. The property is on 3,500 acres. There's a winery and brewery on site that we can walk to, plus a lake with a fabulous dock and so many fun things to do.

Speaker 1:

But I want you to know that this isn't just about wine. I mean, that's part of it, but we are also doing some mini courses on various subjects like manifesting and aging gracefully, creating the life you want, and so many more topics thrown in there. Plus, I'll be instructing various fitness classes. The theme this year is peace, love, wine, and of course, we will end everything with wine stock on Saturday night, with everyone decked out in their best hippie outfit. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with. It is going to be an absolute blast. We do have a few spots left, so reach out to me with questions or join one of our Q&A calls or check out the show notes. I'll put it all in there as well, and you guys know how to get a hold of me. You can email info at spandexandwine or you can text me at 913-392-2877.

Speaker 1:

Ladies, let's talk about the struggle. You've tried every sports bra out there, but somehow they either turn your workout into a bounce fest, lose their mojo after a few washes or fit about as well as your ex's bad advice. Enter Rax, the sports bra that actually gets the job done. Whether you're hitting the gym, chasing your grandkids or power walking like you own the block, rax keeps the girls secure and comfy. Say goodbye to the bounce and hello to support that sticks. Grab yours today at myraxcom that's M-Y-W-R-A-Xcom and use the code SPANDAX for 10% off, because your girls deserve the best.

Speaker 1:

All right, lastly, is a little tease about what I've been working on lately. So my intention or my mission with my fitness business is to help women become healthier and happier, and I've been focusing on the happy part and digging into it more to pinpoint what that really means to me and how to stay in that happy zone and help my clients do the same. I mean, we all just want to be happier and healthier, right, and not that we're necessarily unhappy people, but I just think that we could all use more of that in our life, and there's just so many different ways that I have been looking at this that I'm anxious to share with you. So I'm excited to announce get ready, here it is the Happiness Blueprint Simple Shifts for a Healthier, happier you Yay. So details will be coming soon and I hope you'll join me I mean, who knows, this might turn into a book and likely there will be a free webinar and this will be the course that I'll take on the road that I've been talking about, and I'll roll it into a summer tour, like I did last summer, but this year I want to reach a broader audience, so not every stop will be in Kansas City.

Speaker 1:

In fact, I'll probably just do one, maybe two, here in Kansas City. So I'm working on that schedule. In case you want to just follow me around the country, I would love that, but I'll get that out as soon as I get it completed. All right, that is it for today. If you're not receiving my weekly newsletter on Wednesday afternoons, I highly recommend that you subscribe.

Speaker 1:

I try not to be one that overwhelms with content, right Like I'm a person that I like just to read little snippets, like my attention span is just oh my gosh, it's so short. So I try and do the same for you guys and give helpful tips and swaps for healthier products, for things that you can do in your life, and just information that will, in turn, help you live a healthier and happier life. So I'll make sure that I put that in the show notes. It's usually always there. But again, you can just reach out to me. You can direct message me, you can text me, you can email me. You guys know all that information by now and you'll hear it in the outro as well. All right, you guys take care. Thank you for listening.
