Mountain Tops & Push-Ups: How I'm Challenging Myself (And You!)
Dreaming of mountaintops, fitness adventures, and meaningful connections? You're in the right place! Today I'm sharing all the retreat details you've been asking about in my newsletter, and I couldn't be more excited about what's coming.
Fresh from attending a funeral that reminded me just how precious our time is, I'm following my heart and planning experiences that balance fitness, wellness, and joy. First up is our intimate "Reset and Renew" retreat right here in Kansas City. Limited to just six participants, this three-day experience combines yoga, meditation, art therapy, and group coaching designed for those ready to make meaningful transformations. It's exactly what I'd want from a wellness reset, and I can't wait to share it with you.
True to Spandex and Wine form, we're also planning a retreat that balances challenging workouts by day with well-deserved wine and dining experiences by night. Then in September, we'll head to Colorado Springs for progressive hiking adventures, outdoor yoga, and hot tub soaks under mountain skies. And for the dreamers among us (myself included), April 2026 will take us to Peru to hike Machu Picchu—fulfilling a fascination I've had since fifth grade! I've partnered with fitness expert Jake Griggs to ensure we're all prepared for this bucket-list adventure.
Not ready to commit to a retreat? Join our 30-day pushup challenge that started April 11th. Whether you're doing your first counter pushups or ready for advanced variations, this supportive community will help you progress. Text "pushup" to 913-392-2877 to join us, and let's celebrate every milestone together. Because whether we're conquering mountains or mastering pushups, the joy is in sharing the journey with fellow wellness-seekers who understand that life is about balance—equal parts spandex and wine, effort and enjoyment.
Thanks so much for listening!

Speaker 1:Hey friends, it's me, robin Hackney, coming to you with the info I promised in this week's newsletter. So many of you have been asking about upcoming retreats and I wanted to share the details, at least as much as I can share right now. There are a few items that I need to finish up and get everything complete, but I will try to finalize all of that before next Wednesday's newsletter. On April 16th, oh, which is the day after the 15th and not tax day. Well, it is tax day. Also, I'm realizing that it's book club night and I need to finish my book. I don't know why I'm such a procrastinator when it comes to book club. I mean, I'm enjoying it. I'm reading way more than I ever have before, and I'm wondering if anyone else is like that, and maybe I'm just wanting it to be fresh in my mind. I'm just going to go with that. All right, retreats.
Speaker 1:So as I was writing out my plans, I was thinking, hmm, can I make all of this happen? The dreamer in me screamed at the top of her lungs yes. And the doubter in me is like is this really doable? Can you pull this off? This is a lot, but here's the deal. I want to get back into doing more retreats. I loved the first three that we did. We did Phoenix, then we did the Lake of the Ozarks, we did Smoky Mountains. So I want to get back to all that and I appreciate all the amazing women that joined in and trusted me on that adventure. Those adventures I had so much fun. Or I have had so much fun creating the wine camp with Penny and, by the way, we still have two openings there.
Speaker 1:But I want more. I want to see more places, I want to go on more hikes, I want to connect with more fabulous women. I want to do all the things and I want to focus a lot of it, or the majority of it, on fitness and wellness. It is very cliche. I mean, we've all heard it Life is too short and in fact today I attended a funeral of a husband and dad that left his wonderful family too early and much too young. So I'm listening to the dreamer in me and I can see her jumping up and down atop a gorgeous mountain, looking out over the most spectacular landscape, feeling a deep sense of gratitude for the ability to be there, and I want you to be on that mountaintop with me.
Speaker 1:So first up is a retreat that will be local, here in Kansas City. It will be limited to six people, as it is a very unique experience, and I'm calling it Reset and Renew. I have designed it to be just that a reset for your body, soul and mind. So you leave feeling renewed and ready to shift into a healthier, happier you. So we'll gather for three days and two nights for some yoga and meditation, art therapy Don't worry, you don't have to be artistic Group coaching and so much more. This retreat is for the person that is ready to make a real transformation and, because of the nature of this event, I would like to chat with everyone interested just to make sure that it's a good fit. So I'll be sending out a link to sign up for a 15-minute call in my newsletter, and I'm really looking forward to this. I hope that you will consider it All right.
Speaker 1:Next up will be more of a spandex and wine style trip. It'll be fitness during the day, fun at night. Together. We will do multiple workouts every day with formats ranging from wall Pilates to Tabata to yoga to resistance training just a grab bag of fitness. And you should be ready to move and sweat on that trip. And all that hard work will be rewarded with a fabulous meal in the evening, complete with wine pairings, of course, and I'm still working out the date and location for that, but I should have that very soon. Okay, so get your hiking gear ready for September of this year, because we will be heading to Colorado Springs, colorado. Day one will be probably two easy yet scenic trails to get us ready for the moderate hike on day two, where we'll be gone most of the day, so we'll have lunch on the mountain or on our trail, so that'll be super fun. And then day three, we'll experience yoga as a group out in nature, followed by an easy to moderate hike and ending with group stretching and probably a soak in the hot tub after all of that hiking. So this trip is a must for anyone interested in my next retreat in April of 2026.
Speaker 1:Wait for it, wait for it In Peru. So when I was in fifth grade, I remember studying about the Incas and I was fascinated. Let's see who was it. I think it was Mr Reagan. He was my social studies teacher, gosh, I think. I hope I'm remembering that right. It might just be remembering it because he was one of my favorite teachers and so that's why he came to mind. At any rate, I soaked it all up and it is stuck with me. I have always wanted to go and explore the Incan ruins. So I am doing it, and I would love for you to come along with me to hike Machu Picchu. I've recruited Jake Griggs, with Working Order Fitness, to help plan this epic experience and, if you'll recall from the episode with him, that's what he does for a living. He helps people prepare for these types of events and plan them, and I am so grateful to have his expertise to guide us. I'm beyond excited.
Speaker 1:Okay, one more item. If you got my newsletter, you heard about the pushup challenge that we are doing at the studio. I just kind of threw it out there 11 pushups a day. I explained it in one of the episodes as well, but I created a reel today and it went out and I had so many people respond that they wanted to jump in on the challenge. So I am creating a group for the next 30 days and, as you're listening to this, if you're listening to it as it came out on Friday April 11th, then this is day one, but you can start at any time. But if you want some accountability, all you have to do you can text. Let's say text push up to 913-392-2877. You know you can reach out to me via email at info at spandexandwinecom and I can get you added to the list. I'd love to have you in on that group.
Speaker 1:I want to make sure that you reach your goal. If you're starting with your hands on a countertop, let's get you down to maybe pushups on your knees. If you are already doing pushups on your knees, get you down to maybe pushups on your knees. If you are already doing pushups on your knees, let's get you to your toes. If you're on your toes, maybe let's get you to your feet elevated and you're at a decline and you're doing your pushups Wherever you might be, I want you along for the challenge. Everyone, take care and I will see you guys soon. Thank you for listening.
