Post-Holiday Reboot: Finding Your Rhythm After the 4th of July

Robin Hackney

Ever noticed how holidays like the 4th of July can completely throw off your wellness routine? That post-celebration sluggishness isn't a reason for guilt—it's actually the perfect opportunity for a fresh start.

This episode explores how to flip the script on disruption, transforming those off-track moments into powerful reset buttons for your health journey. Instead of dwelling on late nights or extra treats, we focus on how those physical cues—low energy, disrupted sleep, digestive discomfort—serve as valuable reminders to check in with our fundamental needs.

Summer presents unique challenges for staying consistent with wellness routines, but it doesn't have to derail your progress. Discover five simple strategies that make summer fitness manageable: prioritizing hydration, exercising before the heat hits, making movement enjoyable through activities like swimming or walking, being mindful of sugary beverages, and following the 80/20 rule to balance celebration with nutrition.

For those seeking additional motivation, learn about two exciting challenges: a three-month Men's Health competition with cash prizes focused on strength and habit building, and a 30-day Wash Your Face challenge that goes beyond skincare to establish calming nighttime rituals for better sleep. These structured opportunities provide the accountability that many of us need to maintain momentum.

Remember, wellness isn't about perfection—it's about intentional choices that compound over time. Whether you're recovering from holiday indulgences or looking to elevate your summer health game, the small steps you take today create the foundation for lasting results. Ready to transform this season into one of meaningful progress? Pour something in your glass that makes you happy, and let's dive in together.

Speaker 1:

Hey friends, welcome back to the show. I am so glad you're here today, especially if you're feeling a little off your routine after the 4th of July. Oh my gosh, can we just all agree that holidays are so much fun and a lot of work, but they can totally throw off your rhythm? So today we're talking about fresh starts, fun challenges and just some easy ways to stay on track with your health this summer, even when life gets a little busy. So pour something in your glass that makes you happy and let's dive in. Hello and welcome to the Spandex and Wine podcast. I'm your host, robin Hackney, and I'm so happy that you're here.

Speaker 1:

This podcast is a place for conversations about balancing a healthy lifestyle and being happy. More specifically, happy hour. Together we'll explore all things wellness and wine. I hope you learn a little, laugh a lot and, along the way, know you're not alone on this balanced wellness journey. Ready to jump in, pour something in your glass that makes you happy, because it's time for spandex and wine. All right, guys.

Speaker 1:

So holidays, do they equal disruption or a fresh start? I don't know if you've ever thought about it that way, but, like the 4th of July, maybe you traveled, stayed up too late or had a little extra sugar or wine. No judgment, I was in that same boat. Your normal routine might've gone out the window and if you're like me, you felt it and it takes longer to recover. Right, I was wiped out on the fourth from having people over on the third. But here's the thing a holiday doesn't have to be a setback. Let's flip the switch or flip the script in our minds to allowing it to be in a restart button. So sometimes that off feeling is the exact reminder we need to check in with ourselves. Are we sleeping enough, moving our bodies? Are we hydrating? Maybe your digestion was off or your energy was low. That's your cue, guys not to feel guilty, but to reboot. So if you're feeling like the long weekend knocked you off track, don't stress. Today is just as good a day as any to start fresh.

Speaker 1:

And speaking of fresh starts, I've got something fun for the guys. So first of all, I have to say that I created this group on Facebook for the men, and some of you got multiple invitations for this group. I am so sorry. Not too terribly long ago, I switched my account to a digital creator, and that's the only thing I can think of. That was different, because I went in and I checked the group and that toggle is not turned on. That says invite every single follower, every single person that you know. It is on the off. I checked several times, anyway. So I apologize if you got multiple requests for that, but we did just kick off a three-month men's health challenge and it's not too late for anyone to jump in.

Speaker 1:

It's three months of friendly competition, accountability and some serious cash prizes. So we're talking about getting stronger, building accountability and some serious cash prizes. So we're talking about getting stronger, building better habits and, yeah, winning some money while you do it. There is a winner each month and an overall winner at the end. So the monthly winners right now there's $750 in the pot. It's 100% payout. Every month someone will win $150. And at the end someone will win $300. And it's like I said, it's about workouts, it's about nutrition, it's a percentage of weight loss. There's like a grading scale that I'm using. So if you've got a husband, boyfriend, brother or friend who's been needing a push, send them my way. Or, guys, message me and I will get you the details. You can email me at info at spandexandwinecom, or you can text me at 913-392-2877.

Speaker 1:

And ladies, let's talk skin health, but also sleep. I just started another free challenge. I did a pushup one not too long ago, a salad one last September. This one is a 30 day wash your face challenge, and yes, it's about cleansing your face each night, but it's also much deeper than that. It's about creating a simple, calming evening ritual that signals to your body you're ready to wind down. We're stacking small habits like turning off the screens earlier, doing a brain dump before bed, light stretching, reading or music, listening to some calming music and guess what? It just started too. And washing your face can be the trigger that helps you build the rest that you want. So if you want better skin and better sleep, join us. It is not too late. Okay, let's see All right.

Speaker 1:

And lastly, just a few quick ways to stay on track with your fitness this summer without overcomplicating it. So, number one hydrate like it's your job. You're sweating more. You need to drink more water. Number two move early. Get your workout in before the heat hits. That'll help with your hydration as well. And three, make your movement fun.

Speaker 1:

I say this all the time Swim, oh my gosh, I love swimming. I need to get a pool. Dave and I just talked about that and I so hope that happens. You can take a walk, you can bike, you can play cornhole Although I would consider that more physical activity than exercise but whatever gets you up and moving. Four I would really watch out for sugary drinks. So watch out for sugary drinks. So sweet tea, margaritas, soda it can all sneak up on you and we need to hydrate smarter than that. And then five stick to maybe an 80-20 rule. So enjoy the barbecues, but keep building your base of good choices.

Speaker 1:

Summer doesn't have to be a fitness flop. It can be a season of momentum if you stay intentional. All right, you guys. That's it for today. Whether you're rebooting after this past holiday, if you're jumping into one of the two challenges that I just talked about, or just committing to washing your face on your own every night, you're doing the work and that's what matters. Small steps can equal big results, and if you want to join either one of those challenges, please let me know. Until next time, stay strong, stay glowing and take care of you.
