Affirmations & Cabernets: Season Three Kickoff

Robin Hackney

Ready for a fresh approach to wellness that doesn't demand perfection? Season 3 of Spandex and Wine launches with a powerful new addition to your self-care toolkit: weekly affirmations designed to transform how you speak to yourself.

After returning from co-hosting a women's retreat in Charlottesville (complete with airport adventures and unexpected Nashville bar-hopping), I'm excited to introduce our new Tuesday affirmation practice. These aren't just feel-good quotes – they're science-backed tools that rewire your brain to look for evidence supporting positive statements. When repeated consistently, affirmations interrupt harmful thought patterns and reinforce the identity you want to build.

Our first affirmation sets the perfect tone: "I show up for myself every single day, even in small ways." Because real self-care isn't always about hour-long workouts or elaborate meal prep. Sometimes it's drinking water before coffee, taking a deep breath before reacting, or simply putting your phone down to get better sleep. These small, consistent acts of self-respect build trust with yourself. When you follow through on minor commitments, you tell your brain: "I matter. I keep my word. I take care of me." That's what creates sustainable momentum – not perfection, but presence.

Join me every Tuesday for a new affirmation to carry through your week. Write it down, share it to your stories, or tag me on social media. I'd love to see how you're showing up for yourself! Follow the podcast so you don't miss what's coming next – more affirmations, more wellness tips, and of course, a splash of wine. Remember, you don't need to be perfect, just present.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to season three of the Spandex and Wine podcast. You guys, I am Robin Hackney, your host, and I believe that feeling strong, happy and confident doesn't require perfection, right? It's just a little intention, a little movement and maybe a little whine. So I'm so excited to jump into this next season. I'm actually coming off of another women's retreat that I co-hosted in Charlottesville, virginia. It was so much fun and beautiful. I posted the sunrise every morning. If you follow me on social media, you probably saw that Just absolutely gorgeous.

Speaker 1:

Getting home wasn't as lovely, but that happens. So we had multiple delays and found ourselves bar hopping in the airport and then finally, our flight was canceled and left both she and I my traveling friend Kimberly and I in Nashville, but you know there are worse places to be stranded, right. And we found a cute little bar slash speakeasy that we both loved and decided that it was a highlight of the trip. So that's a positive. And we made it home safely, so that's all that matters. And we were also both very grateful that we were compatible travelers, because we were together a long time. I mean, it was a full seven days. It was a great experience, but anyway. So season three.

Speaker 1:

So every Tuesday of the season I'll be starting off with a simple affirmation, because I think that the way we speak to ourselves really matters, and affirmations aren't just like fluffy feel-good quotes. They are a way to rewire your brain and when you say positive, intentional words out loud, your brain starts to look for evidence that they're true. You can interrupt negative thought patterns, reduce stress and reinforce the identity you want to build. So every Tuesday, I'm going to share just a simple one-liner affirmation and I'm going to say it and I'll give you time to repeat it, and we'll do that three times. Does that make sense? I hope so. I hope that sounds good. So again, I'll say it. Pause, let you say it to yourself. We'll do that three times and then we'll move on. Simple enough. Okay, here's today's.

Speaker 1:

I show up for myself every single day, even in small ways. I show up for myself every single day, even in small ways. I show up for myself every single day, even in small ways. Showing up for yourself doesn't always mean crushing a workout or prepping all your meals or meditating for an hour. Who does that? Sometimes it's just drinking like a glass of water before your coffee. Sometimes it's taking a deep breath before reacting or putting your phone down and getting to bed on time.

Speaker 1:

We've been working on that in our wash your face challenge. It's the small, consistent acts of self-respect that build trust with yourself, and when you do the little things, even when no one's watching, you're telling your brain I matter, I keep my word, I take care of me. That is so important and that's what creates real momentum not perfection, but presence. So we're going to do this every Tuesday and you can use it throughout the week, and then you'll look for another one the following week. I think this will be amazing and I would love your feedback as we go along. I hope it makes a positive impact on your life. I think that simple words and shifts can make a huge difference. So we'll do that every week and that won't be the entire episode Today. That's all we're going to do. So that's it for today. It's just short and sweet enough to give you just a Tuesday boost and if that affirmation resonates with you, whether it's today's or down in the future, you maybe write it down, maybe share it to your stories, maybe tag me in social media.
