Finding Balance in Life's Chaotic Seasons
Ever feel like you're juggling too many balls at once? You're not alone. In this raw and candid conversation, I open up about my current struggle with balance while navigating a new job alongside managing my fitness studio, recording this podcast, and showing up for clients. The truth? My balance is completely out of whack right now.
We often picture balance as this perfect, calm state where everything fits neatly into place. But that's not reality. Balance isn't about perfection—it's about going with the flow and trusting that even when life feels wobbly, it's temporary. For control freaks like me, this is particularly challenging! Seasons of change inevitably bring chaos before clarity, and that's exactly where I find myself.
Rather than fighting against this imbalance, I've discovered unexpected joy in becoming a student again. As a fitness trainer, I spend significant mental energy planning workouts for others. But recently, I've been walking into classes and simply following along—no planning, no responsibility—just moving and enjoying the ride. This mental break has been transformative, allowing me to get lost in the moment while still maintaining my morning and evening rituals that keep me grounded.
If you're feeling overwhelmed or stretched thin, perhaps this is your sign to find spaces where you can simply show up and let someone else guide you. Whether it's yoga, strength training, or dance, allow yourself to be the student. Let go of the need to plan or be perfect. Just move and enjoy the experience. After all, sometimes the most balanced thing we can do is acknowledge the imbalance and give ourselves permission to be messy.
Pour something in your glass that makes you happy and remember: perfection isn't the goal—progress and presence are. I'd love to hear what topics and guests you'd like featured on future episodes! Reach out anytime at info@spandexandwine.com or text me at 913-392-2877.

Speaker 1:Hey friends, welcome back to the Spandex and Wine podcast. It's me, robin Hackney, your host, and I know I introduce myself every time, and I do that because, especially recently, I've had so many new listeners and so I just want to make sure that everyone knows my name. I know some of you are like yeah, yeah, yeah, I hear it all the time. I know who you are, I know your voice, but thanks for being patient with me and for those that follow me on social media or you receive my newsletter. You know I started a new gig, or maybe I should say another gig, but I wanted to talk about a balance because, I will be honest, mine is a little out of whack right now. So with the new job. I'm still managing my own fitness studio and I'm recording this podcast and I'm still showing up for my Plexus customers and it's a lot. Right, like when you're doing new things, it's a lot, and it can really get to feel like you're overwhelmed, and I know I'm not the only one who feels like they're juggling too many balls at the same time. Right, and we hear the word balance and picture this perfect, calm life where everything fits in neatly into place. But that's not the truth. Balance isn't about perfection. It is about, like, going with the flow. I would say. It's about trusting that, even if life feels a little wobbly, it's temporary and things will settle.
Speaker 1:I think I'm saying this more for me than sharing it with you, because right now, I have to learn how to be okay with being a little off balance, and I don't know if you guys know this, but I'm a little bit of a control freak. I'm working on that too, although I really feel like I've gotten so much better, but I have to remind myself that seasons of change like I'm in right now, require adjustment and instead of forcing everything to be perfect which I don't think that everything should be perfect I believe in messy. I believe in going for it, but I am leaning into flexibility and I am giving myself grace and I'm trying to just breathe. So if you're in a season where balance feels out of reach, here's what I want you to remember it's temporary Change always brings a little chaos before it brings clarity. Perfection isn't the goal. Like I said before, progress and presence are, and it's okay to be messy and then also just trust the flow. Take small steps toward feeling grounded, but allow life to shift and settle naturally, and sometimes the most balanced thing you can do is to let go of the pressure of having it all figured out and just let yourself be in that moment. I would say also that your morning rituals and your evening rituals as much as you can stick to those things and do those things that you know are on your non-negotiable list, the better off you're going to feel. And it's helped me so much to and this is going to sound weird to work out more as a trainer and a coach.
Speaker 1:I spend a lot of time creating programs or thinking about classes and reps and sets and modifications and timing and flow all of the things that go into a class and go into a personal training session. I love it, but sometimes it can be a lot of mental energy too. So I have been able this week to be a student again. I have been walking into classes and simply following along. So I haven't been thinking, no planning, no worrying about who's getting what, just moving, just sweating, just enjoying. And it has been amazing and there's something so freeing about it, like it's giving your brain permission to take a break. I can get lost in the moment, focus only on how good it feels to move and let that stress melt away. I have really loved jumping into the classes to relieve stress and, like I said, just get lost in the moment. Oh, and I've learned so many wonderful new exercises that I can share in my other classes. It's been great.
Speaker 1:So if you're feeling overwhelmed or stretched, then maybe this is your sign to do the same. Find a class where you can simply show up and let someone else guide you. Whether it's yoga or water aerobics strength training you know I like my strength training or it can be dance. Strength training you know I like my strength training, or it can be dance. I mean anything that you enjoy, and that's the key thing too is that it needs to be something that you enjoy and allow yourself to be the student. Let go of the need to plan or be perfect. Just move and enjoy the ride. And a big thank you to all the instructors at the country club for allowing me to jump in and go along with the flow.
Speaker 1:Like I said, it has been quite the week and that's why you're hearing from me. Didn't have time to edit any recordings, didn't have time to interview anyone new, so I wanted to make sure that I still stayed consistent with this and consistent with everything else that's on my non-negotiable list, because I know I will feel better. I love putting content out for you guys. I love hearing from you. Sometimes I have the same people that message me, and that is great, but I'd love to hear from a lot of you that are maybe new or you've listened for a while and you've never reached out. What topics do you want to hear? What guests, what types of guests would you like to hear from? You can reach me at info, at spandex and wine. That's my email or my text line is 9 1-392-2877. And I mean seriously, guys, don't hesitate to reach out if you're wanting to give me a little advice, if you're wanting to just give me a virtual high five. If you wanna share just some information about what you'd like to hear, I would love to hear from you. So, as I say, pour something in your glass that makes you happy and let's go create something amazing today. Thank you for listening.
