Strength in Consistency

Robin Hackney Season 3 Episode 12

"I am capable, I am strong, and I trust myself to handle whatever comes my way." This powerful affirmation anchors our discussion about finding stability in chaotic times through the practice of consistency.

Life rarely offers perfect balance. Right now, I'm juggling multiple full-time positions while dealing with technical difficulties (still recording on my phone until I can fix my laptop!), yet maintaining certain consistent habits has become my lifeline. Professional athletes serve as the perfect example - their lives aren't "balanced" by traditional standards, but their unwavering consistency in training, nutrition, and recovery creates their extraordinary results.

When everything feels overwhelming, identifying your non-negotiables becomes crucial. Your workout doesn't need to be an hour long; even 10 minutes of movement counts. Your meals don't need to be perfect; simply including protein and fiber consistently makes a tremendous difference. These small but reliable actions create touchpoints of stability throughout your day.

The invitation this week is simple but profound: identify where you can maintain consistency, even when life feels completely out of balance. What small actions can you commit to that will ground you and help your future self? Remember - consistency isn't about perfection; it's about showing up for yourself repeatedly, especially when it's difficult. You are capable, you are strong, and you can trust yourself to handle whatever comes your way.

Speaker 1:

Hey, welcome back to the Spandex and Wine podcast. No, still no intro music or outro. I have got to get a new battery. I think we'll probably fix my laptop and then I should be back to normal. If not, I'm going to have to find a different way to do all of this, because right now I'm just doing this on my phone. So thank you guys so much for being patient and for hanging with me.

Speaker 1:

It is a Tuesday episode, so that means we are going to do an affirmation. So I will read the affirmation. I'll give you time to repeat it, hopefully out loud, if you can, if you're in a place where you can do that, and we'll do that three times. Okay. So here we go. Here is your affirmation for this week.

Speaker 1:

I am capable, I am strong and I trust myself to handle whatever comes my way. I am capable, I am strong and I trust myself to handle whatever comes my way. I am capable, I am strong and I trust myself to handle whatever comes my way. All right, I thought that was so good and I thought that just really applies to me. I actually put it into chat GBT. I'm like I need help with an affirmation for the podcast, something about confidence and it spit out like five or six different things and I read that and I'm like, oh, okay, yeah, that really hits me just because of everything that's going on right now with me and I'm still kind of juggling all of the hats that I'm wearing, but I am capable and I am strong and I do trust myself to handle whatever comes my way. It may not be the prettiest, but that's okay.

Speaker 1:

I have shared with you guys so many times how consistency is so important in anything that you're going to do, whether it is a morning ritual or evening ritual. It is your workout routine, it's just your day to day. I mean, I know every day is just a little bit different, but being consistent, showing up even when you don't see the results, that is what is going to get you there, to where you need to be, and you know I'm doing that right now and I'm having faith with all of that and my current situation. You guys knew that I took a full-time position on top of my full-time jobs and duties, so I'm still working all that out. So am I doing everything 100%? No, I mean, life can be so out of balance and anyone that is fantastic at what they do, their life is going to be out of balance.

Speaker 1:

I think of a professional player, like a professional baseball player. Let's just say how much time does he spend away from home working out on the ball field? I mean, that's not a very balanced life. Any professional athlete it's not a balanced life, but it's not a bad life. They have wonderful perks obviously the paycheck that would be great but they are consistent with everything that they do and it shows they have to be consistent.

Speaker 1:

And so that's what I've been trying to do is just continue to be consistent with everything that I'm doing keeping up with the podcast, keeping up with my workouts, keeping up with my meal planning and prepping and making sure that I have everything. And I would invite you to do the same. Like, where do you have control? And that you can stay consistent, because that's going to help you stay grounded, that's going to help you just put one foot in front of the other. And the more you have that routine and the more that you have those non-negotiables in your life, then the more balanced you will feel, even when your schedule is way out of whack, even when something comes just out of left field and you're like what in the heck. Where did that come from? How am I going to deal with that? If you are consistent with your healthy habits and with your routine, then you're going to be so much better off.

Speaker 1:

So that's what I would invite you to do this week is just take note of where you can be the most consistent and stick with it. I don't care if your workout is only 10 minutes or 20 minutes. Just get something in. Move your body and with your nutrition. Get as balanced as you can with your meals. Get protein with every meal. Have fiber with every meal. Do what you can do to make not just your future self like your I mean, your tomorrow is your future self but just that next day. Sometimes it's too much to look beyond that, but what can you do to stay consistent, to just help yourself out? Yep, so I am capable, I am strong and I trust myself to handle whatever comes my way. You guys, you've got this.
