I Didn’t Quit; I Recalibrated And Came Back With Clarity

Robin Hackney Season 3 Episode 28

Ready for a fresh start that doesn’t demand more hustle? Robin returns after a short pause to share a candid reset: stepping away to rest, listening to her body, and choosing alignment over noise. The conversation is warm, honest, and practical—an invitation to build a wellness routine that feels sustainable, joyful, and real.

We dig into the pressure of over-scheduling and how chasing constant output can quietly drain your energy and joy. Robin unpacks why she moved from a packed guest lineup to focused topics and more presence, turning the show back into a genuine conversation. Gut health takes center stage as a foundation for energy, mood, and cravings; you’ll hear why willpower is not the fix when fatigue and joint pain flare, and how thoughtful support can stabilize your day. Expect more straight talk about routines that actually work, less perfection theater, and more tools you can put to use right away.

Joy becomes the north star—redefined as peace in your current circumstance, not just a fleeting high. That shift shapes how Robin approaches the year ahead: no rigid resolutions, just clear intentions, steadier rhythms, and small habits that protect peace. Faith practices like reading the Bible and learning to pray add grounding, offering a calmer response to life’s surprises. You’ll also get a preview of upcoming guests, an open line for listener stories and intentions, and an invitation to help rebuild the community with your voice and your wins.

If alignment over hustle speaks to you, press play, subscribe or follow so you never miss an episode, and share this with a friend who could use a reset. Drop us your 2026 intention or a recent win—your stories keep this community strong.

SPEAKER_00:

Hello and welcome to the Spandex and Wine Podcast. I'm your host, Robin Hackney, and I'm so happy that you're here. This podcast is a place for conversations about balancing a healthy lifestyle and being happy. More specifically, happy hour. Together we'll explore all things wellness and wine. I hope you learn a little, laugh a lot, and along the way, know you're not alone on this balanced wellness journey. Ready to jump in? Pour something in your glass that makes you happy because it's time for Spandex and Wine. Hey everyone, welcome to the Spandex and Wine Podcast. I should probably say welcome back. Like welcome back to you. Welcome back to me. If you've been wondering where I've been, you are not alone. I did take a pause, like a long three-week pause, and not because I stopped caring or I didn't want to do the podcast anymore, but because I needed to practice what I teach and I preach to all of you. Rest and listening to my body. Yeah, it turns out that even I need a break. So thank you so much for cutting me some slack and allowing me to do that. And what I like most about this is what I shared in this week's newsletter. In the past, this would have kept me up at night. I mean, seriously, you guys, I would have been tossing and turning. I would have been freaking out because, like when I first started the podcast, I would worry if it came down to the last night of me publishing an episode late before it being posted. And in fact, at one point, at my busiest point, I was scheduled three months out with guests and I had everything planned out. I knew exactly what I was going to do. And it was fun, but it also added stress. Like I just kept feeling that um tug of always having to be on, always having to have that. That's one reason why I cut down to just Fridays, is because I just didn't have that time to do all of that. And I needed to take a step back because of that, because of the holiday holiday season. Um, but that was kind of a little bit of an excuse for me too. My body was telling me that I needed a break. So the fatigue and joint issues got the best of me for a little while. And as you all know, and probably will do a head nod or at least an eye roll or say out loud, duh, when I say I had too many things going, I was in too many lanes. So I am choosing alignment over noise, and it feels good. I didn't quit, I recalibrated. I am back. So what's the difference? What will be different? You know, in my mind, it's a clearer schedule, it's um focused topics, less perfection and more presence and the podcast as a conversation again. And I will start sharing more about gut health because you guys, it has made a huge difference. Plexus has been such a blessing in so many ways, and I have to scream it from the rooftops. And you're gonna see more of that on the presence on social media too. So, why this matters in your stage of life, why it's not just about willpower, why support in that area matters. And if your body is asking for that support, I am here. Message me, we will figure it out together. So that is that. And then, you know, I was thinking, so many people set resolutions, and I hear a lot of people saying, oh my gosh, I would never do that. They're too cliche, this or that. And I have a client that I've been training now for, okay, let's see. Her granddaughter is 11, and she started training with me just before she was born in order to be the best nana that she could possibly be health-wise. So that means for the past 11 years, um, she and I have been talking about a word of the year. Last year I didn't do one. I don't know why, I just wasn't feeling it. But this year the word was obvious for me. Joy. My daughter-in-law, when we had so many diagnoses of cancer in the family last year, she was sharing a message with me that she had heard in her church service, and I absolutely loved it. It was basically joy is not just happiness, it is peace in your current circumstance, regardless of what that is. And I even printed that out. I'm looking at it in my office right now. I posted it so I see it constantly. Um, I just thought that was so good. And, you know, many of you might already think of joy that way. I've always thought of it as happy and playful and a personality trait of well, like a cheerleader. And I see it differently now. It's the same thing I learned in multiple yoga yoga trainings, just basically keeping an even keel. And you guys, you all know that that is not easy to do when you are in a low time or you have bad news or something's really bad going on in your life, or you see it as bad. So, joy. I am choosing joy. I want peace no matter what is going on in my life, and that's what I'm choosing for 2026 and beyond. No resolutions, just intentions and joy. And it's interesting, like everything that's falling into place in my life and what I am doing to make that happen. Um, that same client was asking me about a couple other things that I was talking to her about. Um I um decided that I was going to read the Bible through this next year. And so I feel like that kind of stemmed from that word joy. And another book that I'm reading is How to Pray. Very interesting. And I feel like that came back to that. And I just see myself in so many circumstances where I know even three, four months ago, I would have just been like, oh my gosh, what is happening? And I just I do feel that peace. Um, you know, and it's going to be a practice that I'm going to have to work on. I realize that it's not going to always just be there just because I say, hey, I want joy. Um, so it's a work in progress, right? So I'm excited. I hope you are too. Um I'm excited about the some guests that I have lined out. The guests that I'm reaching out to, I have a lot on my list to reach out to. So you're going to be hearing from me, you're going to be hearing from them. You're going to have a good mixture. And you guys know me. Come along for the ride. And I don't think that you will be disappointed. I would love to hear what you have planned for 2026. And I know I say this all the time. Um, you can reach out to me at infospandexinwine.com. You can email me or you can text me at 913-392-2877. But please do, like, I would love if you listen to this, that you would message me something. It doesn't matter what it is. It can be your intention for 2026. It can be something you just accomplished. It can be just a picture. I would love it. Like, I would love to see who is listening and um, you know, just who my faithful followers are. And I'm going to need your help building this back up. Um, that was one of my concerns with taking so much time off, was losing listeners. But I'm like, you know what? There's that joy again. I'm just gonna have peace in this circumstance, regardless of what it is, and just put it out there. So, all right, you guys, we will talk again soon. Take care and cheers. Thank you for listening.
