I’m going to say the quiet part out loud: sometimes the person telling you to drink water between glasses of wine… forgets to do it. If you’ve been beating yourself up for falling off your healthy habits, this short, honest chat is your permission slip to drop perfection and rebuild momentum without starting from scratch.

We talk about what consistency really means in a real-life wellness routine, especially when you’re juggling work, stress, social plans, and the occasional happy hour. I share the coaching framework that keeps coming back for a reason: the three C’s. We dig into clarity (what does “feel better” actually mean for you?), commitment (showing up when motivation is flaky), and consistency as the practice of returning to yourself and your habits. Think hydration, supplements, movement, sleep, and protein with breakfast, not as rules, but as small “votes” for the person you’re becoming.

You’ll leave with practical mindset shifts for sustainable healthy living, plus simple next steps you can take today if you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or discouraged. If this hits home, follow or subscribe so you don’t miss an episode, share it with a friend who needs the reminder, and leave a five-star review to help more listeners find Spandex and Wine.

Welcome To Spandex And Wine

SPEAKER_00

Hello and welcome to the Spandex and Wine Podcast. I'm your host, Robin Hackney, and I'm so happy that you're here. This podcast is a place for conversations about balancing a healthy lifestyle and being happy. More specifically, happy hour. Together we'll explore all things wellness and wine. I hope you learn a little, laugh a lot, and along the way, know you're not alone on this balanced wellness journey. Ready to jump in? Pour something in your glass that makes you happy because it's time for Spandex and Wine. Hey everyone, welcome back to the Spandex and Wine Podcast. Okay, in this week's newsletter, I confessed I'm a fake. I'm a fraud. Not really in the way that you're thinking. I am always telling people to drink water between glasses of wine. Mm-hmm. And then last weekend I went to happy hour and I did a terrible job of it. And I'm always talking about how consistency is where the magic is. And then I've had a few months where I have been so bad with my supplements, and it hasn't been intentional or like in a rebellious kind of way. Just it's life. And I know you can relate. And while I've been inconsistent in some areas, I've actually been very consistent in others. Like reading, I am crushing it. And sleep, except for last night, I am sleeping really good recently. And my workouts are pretty solid, but sometimes I do have to count my classes as my workout. So it's not exactly what I want them to look like, but I'm still showing up. And that's what made me stop and think that maybe consistency isn't about perfection. I know I say that all the time. Maybe it's more about returning, like returning to habits and returning to yourself, returning to the things that make you feel good and doing that over and over again. And if you're sitting there struggling with consistency consistency right now, you are absolutely not alone. I am with you, and so many others are too. And when I first started health coaching, there were three things I talked about constantly: consistency, clarity, and commitment. I remember this video that I made, and um, you know, those were the things that I was driving home. And I'm happy to share that video with you. My hair probably, I know my hair is like ginormous and long, and oh my gosh. So yeah, if you want me to send that to you, I can see if I can find it and send it to you, so you'll just have to message me. Um, but I still believe in those three things, the three C's as I would call them. And I think that they can change everything. So, like clarity. Most people say that they want to feel better or they want to lose weight or have more energy, but they're not actually clear on what they're working toward. What does feel better mean to you? Does it mean more energy, less joint pain, confidence, sleeping through the night, maybe feeling good in your clothes? Clarity in my mind creates direction. And without clarity, you're basically just like throwing spade at the wall and hoping that your hormones catch it. And then, you know, the other, another C is your commitment. So not motivation, but commitment. Motivation can be flaky. Um, and I I do believe that some people are saying, I just can't get motivated. I just can't get motivated. I think that you have to have action and then motivation follows. Um, and I think that commitment is just a little bit different. Commitment says, I am going to keep showing up even when I don't feel like it. Not perfectly, not dramatically, just consistently enough that your body and your mind begin to trust you again. And that's a really big thing. And then that's what I think you're motivated. When you keep showing up and you keep doing that, and then you start seeing results, that's when you are like, oh yeah, I'm motivated to do more. And it's also where consistency becomes powerful. Not because one workout changes your life, not because one healthy meal fixes everything, but because the small things add up. A walk here, more water there, maybe protein with breakfast, going to bed earlier, taking your supplements more often than not. Those actions are like votes for the person you're becoming. And I think sometimes we quit too early because we expect ourselves to be machines. I am terrible about that. But we're humans. And we are humans who go to happy hour. We are humans who forget their supplements, we are humans who get tired and overwhelmed. The goal is not perfection, the goal is building a life where you return to the habits that support you uh more quickly instead of just abandoning them completely. So if you're struggling with consistency lately, this is just your reminder. You do not have to start over. You just have to start again. One choice: one meal, one workout, one glass of water at a time. And that's when real change happens. I hope that this was helpful. I wanted just to give you little helpful timps as we go through the next few weeks. Um, and I hope you'll share it with a friend. I think having a friend by your side is super helpful when it comes to all of these things. And pick one that will keep you on track and not allow you to give in, or worse, make the suggestion that you both cave. And we all need that friend that is a straight shooter. I am so lucky to have several of them in my life. Um, so you guys know who you are. I don't need to call you out. But thank you for listening today. I hope you have a wonderful day. I hope you implement the three C's, maybe even go back and listen to this again and just jot some notes down, maybe post it somewhere so you can see it every morning. Anything that helps you, just stay on track, be consistent, get clarity around your goals and what you're trying to work towards, and then commit to making it happen. All right, cheers, friends.
