Speaker 1:

Hello and welcome back to another episode of the Nurse's Breakroom with Jenny Lytle RN. Today we're going to wrap up our series about the lies we tell ourselves and we're finishing it off with the lie. It won't really make a difference. I know that I have a tendency to be all or nothing when it comes to a lot of areas in my life, and that's something that I've gotten better about as I've gotten older, but it's still kind of my default. When I jump in, I usually usually jump in big, and sometimes that's good, but other times it can lead to some feelings of burnout and exhaustion or maybe focusing too much on the things that don't really need that much focus.

Speaker 1:

Now, I love this quote by Ruth Bader Ginsburg Real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time, and I think that's something that's really important to keep in mind. When it feels like the little steps that we've been taking in the direction of the life that we want to lead versus the one maybe we've been leading, it can feel like change isn't happening quickly enough, or like the things we're doing maybe don't matter, or like they're not going to add up to get us where we wanna go, and I completely understand that, because I can be rather impatient. I want quick results, and especially in our fast-paced two-day delivery kind of world, it's natural to want things quickly, but the reality is most of us don't have unlimited time to put into focusing on taking care of ourselves, whether that's mentally, physically, spiritually, emotionally. We have to fit in little pockets of time in our everyday lives, of time in our everyday lives, and it's those little pockets, those little bitty micro doses of self-care that can feel like they're not enough to really make a difference, but they're exactly what we need to be doing. A lot of us know the things to do or the things that are supposed to help with stress relief and with self-care, but I just encourage you to think about what it is that you really enjoy doing, what really helps you to feel more calm and peaceful, loved, less stressed, more taken care of, and make a list of those things, because when you're stressed out, when you're in the moment, you may not be able to come up with something.

Speaker 1:

That's going to turn that around quickly, and that's one of the many things that I go into in my new book Self-Care Isn't Selfish the Compassionate Nurse's Step-by-Step Guide to Personalized Stress Relief. It's a quick and easy read, but it's packed with very actionable bite-sized pieces that will help you change the way you think about self-care and stress relief and give you suggestions for incorporating that into your busy everyday life. It's available on Amazon and you can get it in paperback, a large print, hardcover and on Kindle, and it's also available in the Kindle Unlimited plan. So if that's something you're a part of, make sure to take advantage of that. So we're concluding this series, but next week we're going to jump into the foundations of self-care and we're going to get really practical with how to determine where you are now and what to do with that information. Until next time, take a deep breath or two and never stop becoming the best version of you.
