Welcome back to the podcast journey to well. So today is another really casual conversation about human design with one of my very, very good friends and human design clients, Emily. So she's a three, five sacral generator. So the purpose of these podcast episodes truly is pretty I feel like selfish for my learning style. One of my favorite things to do is just listen to people talk about human design and have conversation about human design, but also like how human design has played into their life and into their everyday relationships, business life, how they go through life.
Speaker 1:I think that we can get really caught up in learning a lot of specifics about human design and talking about like, what does an open center mean? What does this gift mean? What does pure generator mean? And you know that I talk a lot about that on my podcast and my Instagram community, but this is more meant to be a casual conversation. So, Emily, thank you so much for coming on. It's so beautiful to have you my little generator bud.
Speaker 1:For those of you that might not have listened to any of my past podcasts, I am a one, three sacral manifesting generator. So we have a little bit of overlap with the three line, a little bit of overlap with the sacral authority, but I'm here to hear your story and we can chat about your human design chart, so I'm curious. One of the things that I love when I introduce human design to clients or friends or both is seeing and hearing like what was the most poignant thing that you took away from your human design chart reading, what was one thing that you learned, that kind of maybe opened your eyes or it was like an aha moment it was like an aha moment.
Speaker 2:My initial instinct and I think this kind of goes along with my chart itself is that my gut instinct, my intuition center, is very solid, and I think you refer to it as closed. I'm not 100% sure on how to speak about it, but, it being one of my defined, one of my defined centers that's the word.
Speaker 2:It really just rang, rang. So true to me. I had always believed in my gut. You know I say that if my gut says something is wrong, then it usually is. It never leads me down the wrong path. And knowing that that wasn't just a suspicion or like something learned, it's actually in my design like who? I am really like solidify that a little bit. You know, I improved my self-trust a little bit. It was. It was a pretty impactful part of that.
Speaker 1:It's really true. So so, looking at your chart, emily has a defined spleen, a defined sacral and a defined root center. Those are your three defined centers. Everything else is either open or undefined. So to have and the spleen center is our instinctual center, it's like our instinct, it's that whole idea. When we say trust your gut In human design, we're pointing to the spleen center, to some extent the sacral center as well like there's some differences, some similarities center as well.
Speaker 1:Like there's some differences, some similarities, but I don't want to get into that right now. But, yeah, so like having having your three of your lower centers being defined I think we also talked about too like all of your lower centers are defined and then all of your upper centers are either undefined or open, which is super interesting to me, but it just solidifies even more yes, trusting your gut, leaning into your instinct, your instinctual response, your feelings, like how you feel about a certain situation. I want to look too. I think you're. Yeah, so your strongest sense is feeling. Everyone has a strongest sense which is like taste, feeling, touch, whatever, um, like out of your five senses, and yours is feeling, which makes sense because you surprise me at all.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I mean, my chart is basically all water, so it makes sense.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, because you're like a cancer, cancer all water.
Speaker 2:I see, yeah, I'm a cancer cancer Pisces, or cancer Pisces cancer.
Speaker 1:Yeah, oh, my God, wild, it's actually. It's funny you bring that up. I was just talking to a client yesterday because she was like I don't know how to explain human design to she's a hairdresser. So she's like I don't know how to explain human design to my clients because I'm telling them like they should book calls with you and she's like, is it like astrology? Like do you speak about astrology? And I'm like it's it? Well, it pulls from human design, pulls from astrology, but I also like to use my clients birth charts too, but just mostly like your big three of.
Speaker 1:So it's funny that you're water, water, water. And then to see the overlaps and how that and how that overlaps with human design, see the similarities, see the differences, because there's a lot of similarities. So so, trusting your instinct, um, I love, I love that, I love that for you. My spleen center is undefined, so I especially love it for you. What else do you feel like? Maybe in terms of and maybe not it's fine if you don't have an answer but in terms of how you approach, how you show about your job and your business, did you have any takeaways that you kind of aligned with that?
Speaker 2:Being a three five. I love that you asked this question, um, so I am a photographer on the side, as you know, um, and I love being creative. I love the structure of my business, but also the fact that I get to be just me. I get to create whatever I'm feeling whenever I'm feeling it, and I connect with my clients on a very emotional and empathetic level, and I love that so much.
Speaker 2:And I think the thing I've noticed the most, or the biggest impact I've noticed since going through my design chart reading, was that I've always been the kind of person to try something new and see how it works for me, and knowing that that's not just a whim or a hunch, you know it kind of it gave me confidence that that's just how I'm designed to operate. You know, like I'm not, I'm on the path I'm supposed to be on, or I'm on the path that is right for me, because that's part of my design. I think that's the the three side of me I don't remember exactly, but like who I am instinctively is a trier, and when I try new things and they go well, then you know it's, it's good, it's, it's not just a hunch anymore. It's like it gave me confidence that I'm doing the right thing in my business.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I love that. Yeah, the three line is the experimenter, which we both have. The three line and it is. It's to learn through trial and error, and it's actually one of the best ways that we can share information within our friend group. Or if you are like an entrepreneur and you have your own small business, in whatever capacity, you can share all of the knowledge. And you have your own small business, in whatever capacity, you can share all of the knowledge that you have, like, failed at almost that you've ex or you've just experimented. I like the quote um, you never fail, you just learn. That's definitely one of the taglines for three lines is is you never fail, you just learn, because that's how we're. The taglines for three lines is is you never fail, you just learn, because that's how we're created to move through the world, is to truly try it out. I remember my sister also has a three line and I remember when we were little we would always what.
Speaker 2:That doesn't surprise me at all. I love that so much.
Speaker 1:Yeah. So when we were little, I remember like I would tell her something, like I already did this faith, this is a bad idea, don't do it, and she'd be like I just have to do it Like I have to do it and I have to figure it out for myself.
Speaker 1:And then she would say the same thing to me, like don't do that, that's a mistake. I already did that. And I'd be like Nope, I got to try it out for myself. And like looking back totally makes sense for our lines because we just have to and like three lines are like you know, the like don't touch the plate, it's hot, and the three lines, they're going to touch the plate.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah. And I think that especially having a defined sacral and splenic center also makes that even more potent, because, like when my intuition says it's right, but someone says it's probably not the best idea, I'm like no. I'm gonna do it because my gut says it's good. You know, and I think another element of this that's helped me at work, because I'm a career girly right, I'm going to take over the world.
Speaker 2:You're looking at the future super ruler of the universe experiences and trial by error and also being like an idea generator, and just being one of those people that experiments also allows me to pass on my wisdom and to evolve my messages over time. So when I'm advocating for my people, I'm advocating based on my own experiences, but also things that I've learned from other people, and it's it's just been so helpful. It really reaffirms my one of my core characteristics of being a big picture thinker.
Speaker 1:Yes, yeah, which really comes into your five line too, because the five line one of the names is it's the liberator. But it's really like you love to help people, you're here to help people and I love the advocacy part that you are calling more into your life and that you're really settling into. But it's so funny, it's just so funny.
Speaker 1:I think one of the coolest things that you said and obviously a lot of clients say is I feel so, seen every time like 20 times throughout our first call, and it's so cool to see, as I'm like, as I know, as I'm getting to know you, and then looking back at your chart or we're kind of sharing your chart with you it's just so funny to see how we truly are already living our design, like learning your human design chart. There's going to be big aha moments and there's going to be like groundbreaking pieces that maybe you feel like you've really fallen away from or that, oh, I used to really settle into this and then somebody at one point told me it was wrong so I tried to change it. But overall, we are living our design already because it's literally just who we are and how we're created. But one of the things that you said earlier was it gave me the confidence.
Speaker 1:I think you said confidence. Yeah, it gave me the confidence to like really settle into it and continue to trust my gut, because there's going to be those people that say that's the wrong way, because it's probably not their design, like maybe they have an open spleen center, so they've learned. Okay, let me not that they would word it this way, but I would like let me lean into my other defined centers, because my open center is sometimes a little bit more flowy, and so then we think, oh no, don't do it that way because that's the wrong way. But it's actually just wrong for us, not for the person we're telling it to.
Speaker 2:Yeah, when I, when we were going through this initially, I made the comparison between my chart, my natal chart, and human design to be one of those things that, like who the stars or the universe or whatever deity you believe in designed you to be, and then how you're actually living it and how you evolve is your human, your human design, and I love that so much.
Speaker 2:And a part of you know, feeling seen, was that my chart and just the effervescent way you were explaining it to me was, was so validating, first off, but also it helped me differentiate the things that are who I'm designed to be and learned behaviors. You know, on any kind of learning or healing journey, where you're, you know, going through self-reflection and self-discovery, the ability to differentiate between when you're showing up as somebody you've evolved from in terms of learned behaviors and trauma and whatnot, versus who you are authentically and unapologetically I mean, you know that's one of my big things is showing up unapologetically. It's on my arm for crying out loud. You know, having the confidence and validation that this is really just how I operate has lifted almost a burden, made me feel lighter, so to speak. It I love, I just love human design so much I can't say that I understand it really a whole lot, but it made me feel very good.
Speaker 1:I think it's also pretty intuitive too. I mean that maybe it's not that way for everyone I this is just really speaking for my, my experience but to me it did feel pretty intuitive Because, again, like you're saying, it's like how I'm living out my life, it's how I just am authentically, and and the whole idea of conditioning and like the trauma response and then dealing with your innate gifts that's a huge part of human design too. And then another part that I want to add on top of that is using your human design and looking up, like your partner or your best friend or your parent or your sibling Not that we have to look up everyone in our life although you know that I have but but it really it gives me permission, it gives me the opportunity to give my partner, my best friend, that permission to just be themselves Versus. Again, I think that we, we, we can only think through the lens through which we see, and we only see through one lens. It's our life that we see, our lens, it's how we're created.
Speaker 1:And so when we are able to adopt someone else's lens and say like oh, and see oh, this is their gift, oh, this is their, they have this undefined center. Oh, they have. They're a projector and I'm a manifesting generator. It's this opportunity to give the other person permission to be themselves as well. Yeah, I love that, which is huge. So I know that you wrote a couple notes. I don't know if we already taught, tapped on everything that you had written down, but is there anything else that you had written down that you really wanted to share? No, I think we've kind of talked about everything.
Speaker 2:Um, no, I think we've kind of talked about everything. Everything. I, I know that, um, my gut and one of my foundations is to come prepared Right. So I don't like to, uh, I don't like to improv things that are important to me, uh, when, uh, you know I'm not super confident in understanding the whole thing. I mean, you're you're a practitioner of human design and education and I love that so much, so that's why I wrote some notes down. But I think, and the things that really that I took away the most, that things that I want to explore more is, are related to the gates. I think the gates and the gifts are things that give more, or could. I don't want to assign potential to something I don't know a whole lot about, but the knowing the gates and the way that your design unfolds and how it's structured throughout the year, because you said it's that we go through different gates like one week a year. Right, there's, or?
Speaker 1:there's 64 gates.
Speaker 2:We go through all of the gates in a year. Yep, yeah, and knowing which one we're at also aligns to different parts of my life and how I can lean into or step back from different things that don't necessarily align to that gate and how it's defined for me, or if it even is at all. Maybe questioning things in undefined gates, you know it helps me look at my healing journey from a different kind of lens. You know, when you reach a certain level in your healing journey, things just kind of plummet, they slow down they don't progress as fast as they were.
Speaker 2:So you feel kind of stagnant and I think this rejuvenated that to a certain extent, so I can learn more about me and like the cycles of life and then my gifts. That's something I don't know a whole lot about, but outside of everything we've already talked about what I'm going to take, what I'm taking away now, is leaning into some of those things that are unfamiliar to me.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah. So this is something that I haven't talked about, so I love that you brought it up. I haven't talked about it on my podcast. So if you're looking at your body graph chart, there are a bunch of numbers on the kind of on in each of the shapes on your body graph chart. Each of the shapes is called an energy center. So we have nine energy centers. They roughly look like the seven chakras, and then there's two others, obviously. So in each of those centers, in each of our energy centers, we have numbers that are in, and all of the numbers are the same for everyone's energy centers, but you'll notice that some of them are colored in, some of them are not colored in. So the ones that are colored in, just like the energy centers that are colored in, are your defined gates, which are your gifts. So the gifts or gates, whatever you want to call them, the ones that are defined, are very similar to the defined energy centers. It's just kind of we have a little bit of definition there. It's not that you don't possess the other gifts because they're all within, kind of like, if we're.
Speaker 1:When we say what is the analogy that I normally say Kind of, when we say like we're, oh, when we're like we're all 12 of the zodiac signs. We have all 12 of the zodiac signs within our birth chart, but some of them are going to show up a little bit more heavily in our charts. Some of them aren't. So the defined gates and the defined centers are the same way. Like we have all nine centers, we have all 64 gates, but some of them are going to show up a little bit more.
Speaker 1:And you're right, like, looking into your gates can be a way to look into, another way to look into.
Speaker 1:This is what I, this is how I uniquely am, like this is the gift that I just uniquely possess One of one of the my gates. Um, and and like I don't talk too much about it because it's a lot to try to put out there on a podcast, but one of my defined gates is from the throat to the heart, no, from the ajna to the throat, and it's the channel. Like 43 to 23, and when you have two numbers that connect that are both colored in, that's like the colored line within your chart. I'll have to, I'll have to do a video on this on my YouTube, on my YouTube channel, or on Instagram to explain this better, but anyway, that is like that. That line, that gate connection, is bringing things into, communicating things in a very easily digestible way and easily like understandable way, which is kind of funny, because right now I don't feel like I'm doing that, but but in general, but that's something say it again, you're doing a great job.
Speaker 1:It's such a complex topic topic, but. But what's funny about, like, why I'm sharing this whole story is because from the beginning of my YouTube channel which is where I started and then I moved to podcasting I always said I want to make this really easily digestible. I want it to be, um, intro level, because I feel like, especially when we start talking about these big topics like human design or astrology, or like nervous system regulation or somatics, we can get really caught up in so many fine details that it just goes over our head. So when I learned about that gift that I have again, just like you, learning about your defined centers, it was like this realization and this validation of, oh, I'm doing this the right way. Let me continue to lean into this rather than try to like be super detail oriented and give so many, you know, small things that might end up confusing people even more. So that was a long walk.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that was a long walk but it made sense. You did a good job explaining that. The thing that I'm trying to remember in my brain and maybe this is just how I think about it is the different gates and gifts you have are synonymous, maybe not synonymous, analogous or an analogy to your zodiac and the seasons in zodiac. So if you know, like Aries season or cancer season is in July, right or middle of June to end of July, there are different characteristics of a cancer that kind of embody that person's personality, right. Well, your gates and the gates that exist are all within you and you get to decide how you show up for those defined or undefined um dates and also helps you lean into a little bit more of of life. You know, that's kind of how I see it in my brain.
Speaker 1:Yeah, no, totally, and that's kind of how I share in my new moon grounding circle, like every new moon falls under a different Zodiac sign, and that's just the energy that's moving through the universe right now. And so what you're referring to is we move through all of the 64 gates throughout the year and that's just the energy that's in the world right now. I think we're in the gate of determination. Let me look, we are and then. So then, like what you could do, if this is interesting to you, google gate 46, the gate of determination, and you can read about. What is the what's just uniquely, what's the energy moving through? It's just like Googling what's Libra season, because now we're in Libra season, so it's very similar. The gates we move through obviously quicker because there's 64 gates, there's 12 zodiac signs, the gate 64, just for curiosity sake, because of course I had to look it up is yeah, 46 is in action, enjoying my human body.
Speaker 2:Um, the official gate name is the gate of determination of the self, which is really advantageous for my sacral, uh defined, center, cause that's your sense of self right.
Speaker 2:Yeah, Um, the core theme is love of the body and determination to follow through. Uh, and to me, like when you're active, or on the positive side of this one, it's, um, embodying presence and and being in your body and feeling in your body, which I have been this past week, just in general, very in my feels, and on the negative side of that, it looks like it's looking outside of your body, like being disconnected and looking forward or back, or chaos. You know all the, all the things. So yeah, that's cool.
Speaker 1:The cool thing is, with each of the gates, we have, like the city, which is like the, um, like the illuminated side, like the highest side, and then we have, like the, the regular one, which I'm forgetting the name of, but like that would be determination. And then we have a shadow side regular one, which I'm forgetting the name of, but like that would be determination and then we have a shadow side. So there's three levels for each of the gates. This is very, not intro, yeah, but but I love that you want to nerd out about it, because I love nerding out about it too. Um, but even just like just to reel it back and then, recenter, you can look up what gate are we in? What sun gate is? The is the proper Googling form. So, like, what sun gate are we in right now, no matter when you're listening to this, because obviously, if you're listening, when you're listening to this, we're not going to be in gate 46 anymore. So Google if it's interesting to you. Um, what sun gate are we in? And then you can just like you just did, emily, you can read about it a little bit and just see how it lands with you, like there's going to be things that land. There are going to be things that don't. There's going to be things that maybe inspire you to journal about a little bit more or reflect on a little bit more and more and see, see where you go from there. Maybe it will spark some creativity, but it's very interesting. And then, like we can all, we can always look at your defined gates in your chart, which you just carry with you throughout the 12 months of the year, all the time you carry those definitions. The cool thing about the sun gates is that, like, if you don't have gate 46 defined in your chart, that energy is going to be illuminated. So the gate of determination. So if you're someone that maybe let's just kind of go with this general thing of like being in your body, if you're someone that feels like detached or dissociated from your body, maybe during this sun gate you feel a little bit more in your body, you're able, or you're able, to easily drop into like a somatic session a little bit more easily, who knows?
Speaker 1:Anyway, it's super interesting, it's just, it's just fun stuff and there's so much to learn about human design that I love doing these episodes because it's like a little bite, it's a couple sips of a milkshake, and I guess I want ice cream right now. It's a couple sips of a milkshake and not the whole entire milkshake, so you don't have to get overwhelmed and get that sugar rush and then the sugar crash. You're just taking a couple sifts and then you can move on and then come back in a week from now and listen to another episode and take a couple more sifts of a milkshake. So I want to close. I want to close with if you came across someone that was interested in learning about human design, interested in maybe booking a human design call with someone doesn't have to be me, of course, but learning, diving deeper into their human design and they're kind of on the fence what would you say to that person? What advice would you have?
Speaker 2:Hmm, just do it. I guess, my knowing how much value I've gotten out of it and the validation and firmer foundation and surety of self I've gotten from my human design, I would never say to somebody, don't do it right. But at the same same time, I think, if you aren't at a position to where you feel, um, ready or able to receive the information about who you are, because you haven't, you just aren't aware or you aren't, uh, ready for that kind of realization. You know, maybe learn more about your zodiac side first. Were like designed to be by the stars, you know. And then, you know, become more acclimated, like working up to a human design reading, because I just think it was.
Speaker 2:It was such an incredible moment and experience and ever, ever since then it's just been so much, so much fun, uh, to learn more about myself. But I mean, honestly, just do it. Even if it's super overwhelming, it's well. One with you, so much fun. And two, even though it's intimidating, it's uh, it's freeing, or it was for me very liberating to like know that some of the things I've always kind of thought were just adaptations or actually just evolutions of me through time, you know. So it made me feel good, it makes me feel seen. And even reading through some of my friends design charts, I'm like, absolutely, that is him, that is her, it's just yeah, just do it, yeah.
Speaker 1:You know I'm such a nerd about it, looking people up and reading it, but it's funny that you said start with astrology, if that's where you feel like you need to start, because that's where I started, too, is. I started learning astrology and then I got to a point where I felt it was too overwhelming and it just wasn't the path for me to dive into, like dive really deep into my astrology. Um, and then I, and then I found human design, or human design found me, and that was really like what just felt super aligned.
Speaker 2:So, yeah, explore explore, I will say, the Zodiac, like who you were born to be, doesn't necessarily aligned to who you are. So understanding your root and like what who you were drawn as, is a really good foundation for anybody, self-awareness or otherwise. I think knowing what you're sensitive to, or if you're sensitive at all, if, if your aggression, a planet is in, or if mercury is in aries, or something you know like knowing where you're at astrologically, is just a good foundation, but it doesn't necessarily align to everything that you are now. Yeah, and human design is how you dive into that, you know.
Speaker 1:I like the perspective. Yeah, I'm down with it. I like it. Thank you so much for coming on. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and your reflections on on human design and astrology, and thanks for getting me to talk about the gates, to introduce them, because we'll definitely have more conversations about the gates at some point, but this is hopefully a. It was a little intro, we dipped our toe in, so that was really fun. Thank you so much, emily. Yeah.
