Ep #46 - Celebrating Wins: Embracing Personal Growth and Self-Acknowledgment

Nicky Bevan

Reflecting on personal growth is a journey filled with both challenges and triumphs, but what if embracing those small victories could transform your life? Inspired by the teachings of Jamie Berman, Bev Aaron, and the insightful concepts from "The Gap and The Gain" by Dr. Benjamin Hardy and Dan Sullivan, I've embarked on an empowering exploration of daily wins. By writing down three achievements each day, I've not only cultivated positive momentum but also deepened my connection with a higher power, experiencing a powerful sense of co-creation. This episode invites you to join me in this practice of gratitude and reflection, celebrating resilience and the ability to receive joyfully, setting a robust foundation for ongoing growth in 2025.

This episode also uncovers the transformative power of self-acknowledgment beyond the professional sphere. From fasting and solo traveling to hosting my first paid workshop, each experience has brought crucial lessons in surrendering control and nurturing self-belief. As a coach, business owner, and mother, these journeys have grounded me, boosting my confidence and presence. By adopting a mindset that views change as a growth opportunity and regularly tracking and celebrating wins, we can train our minds to focus on positive developments, leading to a more fulfilling and motivated life. Join me as we embark on this path of recognizing personal progress and celebrating even the smallest of victories.

Speaker 1:

for my last podcast of 2024. I wanted to reflect on the past year and my coach, jamie Berman. If you want to work on your money mindset, go and check her out. She's incredible. She got this concept from her coach, bev Aaron, who, at the end of every year, you write your hero's story of 2024. And I've got to tell you, my brain really struggles with this practice.

Speaker 1:

So there's also a practice it's called Daily Wins wins and I got it from the book the gap of the game by Dr Benjamin Hardy and Dan Sullivan and basically, at the end of every day you write down three things that you that were wins that day. And it doesn't have to be huge, big things, it could be. I said no to a cupcake, it could be. I connected with my God, I did my exercise, I phoned that client who I was frightened to phone. So it doesn't have to be big, huge wins, but you write down the three wins of the day, three wins of the day, and then you write down what you anticipate your three wins for the next day to be, and this kind of triggers a chain reaction in your brain as you go off to bed to start manifesting that and making that happen, and I've been practicing this for a number of months now. Actually, I can't say I do it every single night, because I don't. I'm not that perfect at it, but I do it more than I don't do it. But when it came to the whole year, my brain's like nothing. Nothing's happened, it's not working. I haven't changed and it's simply a load of bollocks. But I have to really encourage myself to celebrate, to notice the wins, to notice the achievements, to see how far I've come, because actually, when I look at the version I was this time 2023, I feel like a completely different version of myself. I'm so much more grounded, I'm so much more connected with source, whether you call that the universe, god, whatever your higher being is, your spirit guides, aliens, whatever it doesn't matter what you name it. I'm so much more connected and it really feels like I'm co-creating now, rather than trying to do it all on my own and, out of a pride, having to kind of prove that that I can do it, um, and that has been a really beautiful experience for me.

Speaker 1:

So there's a number of questions, um, that my coach suggests that we look at, ask ourselves in order to get this hero journey, and I just want to share some of them with you, and I think the first one is what are you most proud of yourself for this year? So just consider that for a second, look at who you were this time last year and what are you proud of. And so, for me, I've kept going, I've kept going and I've not given up, even when the evidence maybe isn't you know, maybe the evidence is proving differently. I haven't stopped and because I've worked through the self-doubt and the questioning and the kind of anxiety and nervousness of putting myself out there, that's built a really strong, solid foundation for me and for my business In 2024, I started this podcast I had this wasn't even a consideration this time last year and I've started to really work on receiving and I don't just mean things, I mean compliments and people's time and Just receiving gifts, just for the sheer joy of receiving gifts.

Speaker 1:

I always used to sort of back off compliments and say oh, no, no, no, you know, you know this old jumper, it's had it ages. I don't do that anymore. I just very graciously receive the compliment, receive whatever someone wants to give me and just thank them for it. And so that's a really lovely question what are you most proud of. And then, what is your greatest achievements or accomplishments of this year? And I don't think this necessarily. This doesn't have to be in business, doesn't have to be in your job. Have to be in your job. This could be personally, and for me, when I look back at this year, two of my biggest achievements is the same thing. But I've done two five day long fasts this year. I mean even a year ago. That version of me wouldn't even I couldn't even go a day without eating, let alone five days, and I did it both times with ease, once you get over the first 48 hours I'm not suggesting everybody does this, by the way, but if you're interested, read Fast Like a Girl by Dr Mindy Peltz. Love that book.

Speaker 1:

I went to San Diego twice on my own solo traveled. Check me out. I got my first paid workshop in 2024. So when I look at how far I've come from one-on-one coaching now into group coaching, 2024 started that process. I got my first paid workshop and that was a huge deal for me. Huge deal for me and also from a personal perspective. The network that I belong to invited me to be one of their hosts for one of their groups and all that brought up all my limiting beliefs that I'm not a leader. Turns out I'm very good at it. Who'd have thought I'm very good at it? Who'd have thought? And so I stepped into this real kind of identity of someone who can hold a room, that can command the space of others, and I really enjoy doing that. I really enjoy doing that.

Speaker 1:

And then the other question I love is what lessons have you learned? What lessons have I learned this year? And you know, one of the biggest ones I've learned is that making money can be easy. Oh my gosh, that goes against all the beliefs I ever had about money. Like money has to be hard, you have to work hard and lots of hours for money. Turns out that ain't true. I learned that lesson beautifully this year.

Speaker 1:

I've learned that connecting to God, the universe and surrendering to that love feels so good. Having that realization, this has got fuck all to do with me. This is, I am just part of a bigger picture, a bigger energy, and that energy knows exactly what needs to happen and when it needs to happen. And I can. I still show up daily. I still move towards taking action to my goals, but I'm learning, and I am still learning this lesson to release the how and the when to the universe towards taking action to my goals. But I'm learning and I am still learning this lesson to release the how and the when to the universe, and when I do that, it just feels oh so much karma.

Speaker 1:

And this one's very similar, releasing the how. So when I set a goal now, or I set an intention and my brain wants to go, yeah, but how are you going to do that, nikki? What have we got to do? How are you going to do how, how, how. I don't need to know the how. I'll tell you how when I get there. All I need to do today is take action, is believe I can do it and move towards that belief in whatever feels right today. So another good one is what was different about you? What's different about you now versus a year ago? What a brilliant question to consider. What is different about you now than a year ago? And for me, I'm definitely stronger, I'm definitely more grounded. I have so much more certainty in my ability as a coach, as a business owner, as a mum, and listen, if these questions bring up any form of negativity for you, just be willing to question that negativity.

Speaker 1:

So, especially when it comes to what's different about you, if you're like, oh, I'm worse, I'm worse, I'm worse, are you? And if actually you are, would you like to do something about that? Because that's the other thing, isn't it? We are growing and evolving as humans, that is. One constant in our lives is change, and you get to make that change positive or you get to make that change negative. And having a mindset that things happen for you rather than to you then enables you to extract the learning, extract the growth from any given situation. So what I'm going to do, going forward I've decided I'm going to say it out loud on this podcast so you can hold me accountable to this is I'm going to continue doing my daily wins, but then what I want to do is I want to do a weekly roundup for myself and then what I'm using the, what I've won, like going through my wins, doing a weekly roundup, and then what I'm going to do is, once a month, I'm going to do a monthly roundup looking at my weekly wins, and then I'm going to do a quarterly one, so that by the time I get to this time next year, I, my brain, will be so much more in tune with celebrating, in picking out the learning, in picking out the wins, in picking out the celebrations.

Speaker 1:

Because, in picking out the wins, in picking out the celebrations because my brain doesn't do that ever, it can do it for other people.

Speaker 1:

I struggle to do it with myself and I want to teach my brain how to do this, because what we celebrate, where we get our dopamine, is what we're going to be more motivated towards doing.

Speaker 1:

So this is one of my commitments for next year is to really actively practice, looking at my wins, looking at my lessons, celebrating all those little steps forward and putting in a practice daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly practice so that this time next year, when I come to do my yearly roundup for 2025, I'm going to have loads of stuff to tell you, because I'd have written it all the way down, all the way through the year and recorded it as it happened, rather than sitting here going, oh, I don't think anything's changed and I'm no different because it's bollocks, because it's bollocks. So this is a really beautiful practice that I'd like to share with you and have a go at it, try it out, give yourself time to sit and think about it and, yeah, there may be a resistance to that if your brain's anything like mine, because I should be doing the washing up and I should be doing the tidying or the cooking or the working on my business, but actually this is a really beautiful way to celebrate you and celebrate your life.
