Shannon McKinstrie [00:00:00]:
I am your host, Shannon McKinstrie. Welcome to Good Content, the podcast where I remove the never ending content creation, guesswork, and overwhelm so that you can actually enjoy being on social media again and growing your business with what has always worked. Good Content. All right. The podcast, I won't say studio, because that's. We're in, like this crazy room in our house podcast corner. We are updating it.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:00:31]:
I start everything in my business. Really messy life, too. And now that you guys are, like, loving the podcast and I can't even believe you guys, we're almost at 200,000 downloads in less than a year. What is happening? I love you so much. Your support means everything to me. You have no idea. I love this podcast. I love that you guys take the ideas I share, run with it, and have huge success.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:00:49]:
It's just. It's just amazing. So I'm finally like, okay, let's, let's, let's make this nice for y'all, okay? Especially for my YouTube folks who are watching on YouTube. We're in the pro- It's almost done. I'm to add a little plant over here, so next week it'll be totally done. I'm so excited. I'm loving the.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:01:02]:
The cozy vibes. Anyway, let's jump in. We're going to talk relatable content today, which I. We're talking humor, okay? Because relatable content could be something empathetic, right? But it's today we're talking humor. It's the one thing that everyone I talk to struggles with the most. Because you think you have to be like, Chris Rock funny to have a funny reel. Or like falling down on the ground, hooting and hollering. It doesn't have to be, like, the funniest thing ever.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:01:24]:
It can be something that we just go, oh, my gosh, this is so us. The reason I'm going to beg you to experiment. If you don't want to do humorous content ever, then don't. There's plenty of accounts out there that are viral that don't ever do any sort of humorous content. But if, especially if you're struggling, maybe it's time to tap into some humor relatable. Because that's, like, what bonds us the most. We feel seen. We are like, that's so funny.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:01:47]:
Oh, my gosh. They get me. Okay? And here's what I mean. And it will be in the show notes. My daughter took my phone, so I can't show you right now, but it'll be in the show notes. But It's a reel that's going viral for this. It's like a driving range beer spot, okay? And it's just B roll left to right showing the. Showing what it looks like.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:02:03]:
And it says, I'm not saying we should skip work and play golf and drink all day. But I'm also not, not saying that. Okay? Funny, funny. 10,000 shares again. It's in the show notes now, what you could do with that. Maybe your clothing boutique. I'm not saying we should skip work and go get lattes and walk around, right? Or you're a content creator. I'm not saying we should get dressed up and go shoot content.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:02:28]:
There's a lot of ways you can pivot this to your niche. And this is what I'm talking about. You're going to do three things, okay? One, you're going to type. You're going to do three different chat GPT prompts to help you come up with these situations that you're going to use again and again and again. Or if you don't like chatgpt, like, you're like me, where I'm like chat GPT. Like, I like the ideas that come out of my brain more. But ChatGPT is great for getting the creative juices going. But I'm gonna give you three prompts to use or for yourself.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:02:53]:
You be your own chat GPT, okay? And you're gonna create reels like this. Okay, so real quick, before we jump into the prompts, there are three types of reels or pieces of content to create that are funny that you're gonna do maybe once a week or at least once a month, whatever your goal is. Okay? Whatever you can commit to. You can lean on three things. One, the evergreen prompts I'm about to share with you that are, like, funny no matter what. You don't have to wait for a trending audio. You don't have to wait for a funny CapCut moment or a funny meme moment to do the funny reel. You can do these any time of year, day, et cetera.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:03:22]:
And it's just like that golf one where it's just B roll and the text is just something funny. It's something like, you see those threads that are funny that that sort of prompt, it's evergreen. It works. You don't have to wait again for the funny cap cut. You don't have to wait for funny audio. Okay? And I'm going to share those with you in a minute. The next is the funny audio, and the third is the cap cut trends and the memes, those you gotta. It's a timing thing, right? So the first one is my favorite because you can just create them anytime.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:03:50]:
And those are prompts like this. My toxic trait is blank. Or unfortunately, my mood depends on blank. Right? It's like stuff like that, that like, it's funny all the time no matter what. So my toxic trait is maybe you're a home organizer or a home decorator. I don't know. So I'm like having to rearrange my furniture every week because blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. That's funny.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:04:12]:
It's shareable. It's like, oh, that's so me. Right? Or unfortunately, my mood depends on what the UV index is, if I have a good book to read and no one talking to me for three hours at the beach. That would be perfect for a travel agent to do. Okay, so I know you're like, but Shannon, it's the idea that you just said that I struggle with. That's where these prompts come into play from ChatGPT. Okay, so, and again, we all know the, the funny audios. Like, if it's someone like a crying or someone like slapping a table, you can easily take these same prompts that I'm about to give you to go over those audios.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:04:42]:
What I want to say about a trending audio that's funny, always, always, always look at the top performing ones under that audio take. Even if you need to like, write it down on a piece of paper, put lines through the words that are theirs that make sense for their brand, and replace. Oh, is that a verb? Replace with a verb. That way you would make sense for your industry. You know, that sort of thing. And I'm again, I'm going to get to what that looks like in a moment. Stick with me. And then again, the third is the cap cut trends.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:05:07]:
You know, the super bowl moments, the Grammy moments that are memes and those are easy. You can use the same thing I'm about to tell you for all three of those things. Here's what you're going to do. You're going to open ChatGPT or you're going to use this prompt as your own for your own brain. Okay? You're going to say, give me 10 scenarios and or situations that blank find themselves in and get frustrated by. So let's say you work at a coffee shop. You could that baristas find themselves in and get frustrated by. You're a parent coach for toddlers that toddler parents get frustrated by.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:05:35]:
Okay, you're gonna do the Same thing for joyous stuff. Give me 10 situations or scenarios for who your ideal client is, your target market that they find euphoric and perfect and joyous and whatever your words you wanna use, get 10. If you don't like them, ask ChatGPT for 10 more and maybe say, get more specific. Whatever. I also want you to do for the third prompt, same thing, but for your own industry. Because I know a lot of you are like, but I don't want to create humor for my own people. It's still fun. I mean, yeah, you're a realtor, you don't want other realtors following you, but why not? If I see another realtor commenting on the realtor's post, I'm like, wow, they must really be trusted in their industry.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:06:12]:
No, you're not going to do that all the time. But I'm saying don't be afraid. So say so again, do that prompt, but put your own niche in it. Okay, so you're going to do this. You're going to get all these ideas, you're going to dump them in a Google sheet. One side is frustrating, relatable scenarios. The other is euphoric, happy, whatever scenarios. Okay? And I'm going to tell you right now, under mine, I'm looking at my Google sheet right now, I have the reel under under frustration for social, for my, for my people.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:06:35]:
Who are you guys? It says the reel they spent five minutes on going viral, that has nothing to do with their business versus spending hours on a reel and it flopping, another, being in two hundred view jail, another, right? So I have a whole list of things that you guys get frustrated about. And I have a whole list of things that you guys get excited about. Okay, so now when there's a funny trending audio that's like crying or slapping a table, I can now use that to go. Business owners, when they spend five hours editing a reel and it flops, and that could just be mine. Or if it's like a audio that's like, huh, what? I could say business owners, when the reel they spent five hours on flops, but the one they spent two seconds on goes viral, right? So now I've got a list of all these things. So every time I hear a funny audio, I just go to my, instead of racking my brain, I go to the sheet, I'm like, oh yeah, that idea. Then I go see what reel under that trending audio is doing. Well, take that prompt and insert my words.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:07:32]:
And I really hope that makes sense. You know, again, DM me on Instagram, whatever you gotta do. Or YouTube. Leave comments below. Let me know if you. If you're struggling and have questions about it. So that's what I do. That's what I do for my clients.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:07:42]:
And they go crazy. And I'm telling you, I still manage a craft brewery that's hyper local. I create funny reels about things that I know people in their city are talking about, whether it's the weather, right? Like, it's not even always about the brewery itself, but the brewery will be like in the video. So they're like, oh, what is this? So, again, have some fun with this stuff. Now, again, the other thing is, obviously, after the Grammys, we had the Beyonce meme going crazy. After the super bowl, we had the Kendrick one. And we're almost a week later, and it's still going crazy. But after about a week, people kind of start getting over it.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:08:13]:
So if that stresses you out that you're like, Shannon, I cannot be on it the day after the Grammys, then don't worry about it. You lean on those evergreen prompts, okay? And what you do is you create those. You come up with those scenarios that your people hate versus what they love. And you see a reel going crazy that's kind of cheeky and fun. You just add your words in there. Now, is the first one you do going to go crazy? Maybe. And if it doesn't, you tweak it. It's all about trying, testing, and tweaking.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:08:39]:
And I promise you right now, if you can make people laugh, they're going to share your content like crazy. I do it for the brewery all the time. If there's a funny cap cut of, like, someone dancing and being all like this, I'm like, oh, people in the city, they're in the breweries in. As soon as the weather hits over 60 degrees or over 50 degrees, right? That's funny because it's like, you know, 55 degrees and great, but it's better than the 30 it's been. Do you know what I mean? Like, it doesn't have to be again. Make them hoot and holler and crack up. You know, I use the one about being so proud of your reel, putting it up and getting three likes and one's your mom or spending five hours in a reel and da, da, da. I mean, people love it because it's relatable.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:09:19]:
Again, it's not. It's. It's funny. It's simple. It makes us laugh. And it makes me know that your account gets me, and that's what the magic is. But there you go. Use those prompts.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:09:29]:
Don't be afraid to test things out. Once you get one that works the next time an audio is similar to that one you just do it again. Like again you don't have to come up with fresh humorous ideas all the time. So there you go. That's how you create your relatable funny content. I hope that helps again. Thank you guys. I just can't believe that we're almost at 200,000 downloads.
Shannon McKinstrie [00:09:46]:
Thank you for every share review everything. I just love you to death. Use those prompts that I just gave you, those three evergreen ones and as you are scrolling Instagram and see a funny reel think about use your Google sheet now that has your two columns. Find a way to tailor it to your messaging. But I just gave you guys lots of ideas so I hope that helps and I love you so much and I'll talk to you next week.
