Hello everyone, this is Judith Garra, and welcome back. Welcome back to my Wellness Connections podcast. And you know I'm on Buzz Sprout now as well. And I expect that these episodes will, as I transition, be available on Apple and Spotify and Amazon Music. So this is episode 63, and I want to tell you my top topic for this episode is Mental Health Awareness Month. And it's it's month May, where this is uh a focus, although we know that we need to pay attention to mental health uh all year long, right? Uh oftentimes people need help, and I'm gonna be giving you in this webcast podcast details of links that you can go to for help and to share uh with others uh some tools and toolkits uh should they need them and should they know someone who needs them. So I'll be with you in just a moment. And they have the call letters S A M H S A. And that there'll be a link in the details of this podcast. They have uh what they refer to as a comprehensive toolkit for Mental Health Awareness Month, and um I'm going to put a link to that. In addition, this information I often put on my Tech for Boomers blog for May for my blog followers, and um, so it'll be there as well. But moving right along, um we want to share these resources uh with our community because this is a topic that's coming up more and more frequently. The Mental Health Foundation hosts a mental health awareness week, and and that takes place uh from May 13th to the 19th of this year, and the theme for this year is movement move more for your mental health. Now that's really important because they're saying that the impact of physical activity on mental health is important. So let's talk a little bit about physical activity. You know, the US Department of Health uh has various suggestions for all ages at their website, and I'm gonna post um a link in the details of this podcast for you to see if there are some things that interest you. And they have a website called moveyourway at health.gov and it's https double forward slash health.gov slash move your way. So we're gonna talk about what they say uh is important to help your mental mood, right? That's what we're talking about, physical activity along with helping your outlook and your mood, how important that is. So the other thing I wanted to tell you about that this office, the mental health benefits of physical exercise on anxiety, is that um the Veryweldmind.com website says that there's something called exercise snacking, and it's a fitness concept that involves short, intense bursts of physical activity activity, similar to how you might grab a quick snack for energy. So that's the other thing that they had, and the idea is to make it easier to reach the recommended 150 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic exercise each week by breaking it down into manageable snacks of activity, so that's a great idea. So, in addition to the move your way tips, I'm going to uh put a link in the podcast to the very wellmind.com website so you can read more about that. And I'm also they have some nice video ideas that will be in the link. So we're talking about mental health month, okay, and uh I'm coming up with some ideas for you about ways to enhance your mental health, okay? So um I also want to tell you like one of the things that they suggest is that you know you don't have to buy special exercise equipment like weights and kettleballs and resistance bands, you know, you can do some simple things like stair climbing and jumping jacks. Although I have to tell you, I did some jumping jacks, and my knees were not really um in sync with what was going on. So uh you might want to be careful about the jumping rope and jumping snacks, uh sh uh jacks. Uh I'm getting my snacks and my jacks mixed up. Anyway, also they had chair squats. This will all be in the um links of this top topics podcast, but also on the other blogs I'll be having some um links and and good advice on mental health awareness month. So you know I have four blogs, but this is my top topics uh podcast. Okay, let's listen to some more music. So before I close out this episode 63 talking about um mental health month, I do want to tell you why I spoke about the music, and as you know, I always have some music flowing through my episodes. And according to some of the things I read, uh for mental health, uh music has a powerful um impact on our mood, uh, it helps to build uh task endurance from what I read. Can you imagine? Um it improves response to pain, uh, it lightens and reduces um anxiety and depression, and it can help with uh to treat mental health illness. So some of the things we want to do is uh when we're feeling uh stressed, uh we want to put on some music that will help us therapeutically, and there are studies that suggest that music therapy can improve the quality of life and social connectedness. I'm gonna be putting a lot of um links in this podcast, and I'm gonna be talking about it on my blogs, uh posting some additional information. I did in a past um uh living senior blog post. I had a harp uh therapist offer a link. I'm going to review that again. So we do want to use music to help us and to reduce our stress levels and to lighten our moods. This is mental health month, though. But every month throughout the year is a year where we need assistance to help us with our anxiety, to help us with our low mood periods, and we want to share that information with people. So please stay connected with me because I'm going to be having more and more of this type of information this month in particular. And I do want to mention some of the music. One of the pieces is called Price of Freedom, and I did get it from Pixabee Music. It's a free download, uh, it's a really nice uh piece of music. I love it. It's called Price of Freedom. So I'm gonna close out now and please stay connected.
