Strategy Coaching Session with Dr. Toya

I have an exceptional life.  This isn't a brag, this is a fact. There are certain things that are quite unusual about the life that I am currently leading. I am from the Caribbean.  I don't practice medicine in a traditional way. I am full-time, well, part-time locums. I only do hospital work, which is becoming more common, but still not the norm.

And I am working towards an exceptional dream life, very diligently, in fact, and every decision that I make is in service of that dream life.  I would like to have location freedom. I imagine. Myself and my family living six months in different countries, one of which will be Trinidad,  where both my husband and I are from, six months on the continent.

And then a couple months here, there, coming back to the United States as our base. We want our children to be global citizens. I never want to have to cook anything ever in my life, but I want to eat good, healthy food. I want to outsource everything. And  I'm saying “I”, but my husband shares this vision as well. So, you know, that's that's not a typical life. It's not a typical goal.

And I use my life and my stories to help explain my points, to present new perspectives. But it can be very easy, if you cannot relate to my life or you have no desire to live the type of life I currently live or that I'm aspiring to live to say, well, that doesn't really apply to me, she's different. She's exceptional. She's weird. She's whatever.  And it will be very easy for you to close your mind off to some of the things that I am seeing because it just seems so far out of the realm of your possibility or even your desire.

But I want to talk about this because I want to make one thing very clear.

My goal is not to have you live my dream life or do every single thing that I currently do in my life.  It is for you to Live your life fully connected to whatever it is you want; fully connected to your inner desires. That's really my main goal. And the essentials of the things that I talk about are the same,  but they are all in service of connecting you to those inner desires.

So yes, I think alone time is very important, but it may not look like what alone time means to me. which may be going away for a weekend or even a week alone with no kids, no husband and doing whatever I want. It could mean going for a walk and just allowing yourself to think or not be questioned, not be needed.

The care for your mental health, the care for your physical body, this one body that you have, all of these things are what I want for you all in service of Finding out what you truly want out of this life and pursuing it relentlessly with No other consideration to anything else. And when I say no other consideration, it doesn't mean: Leave your kids, leave your husband.

When you really are connected,  all of those things are part of what you truly want. You want to be a good mother. You want to be present for your kids. You want to be a good doctor. You want to be a good wife and have a healthy, loving, sexual relationship with your partner.

Or, getting truly connected can make you realize you actually don't want any of those things. Or you want something completely different than what you thought. And even though that may be scary, it can be freeing too.  All of those things are all a part of your inner desires. And it may look completely different than my own.

Right. So I want you, as you join me on this journey on stethoscopes and strollers, not to think, you know, I'm exceptional.  What I am is intentional. I am intentional about making the choices to live the life that I want to live and keeping it as my central focus at all times.

So I ask you, what do you want?  What life do you truly want to live? What life are you waiting for, you know, once you find a new job or once the kids are older?  And it's okay if you don't know. You're like, I have no clue. You know, we can find out together. So here I will be talking about different things, giving you prompts, introducing new ideas, bringing on guests that can give you new ideas.

And things may not necessarily apply to you.  You may not be able to do this or that because of X, Y, Z, but I challenge you to keep an open mind and approach everything you hear here with curiosity because once you are truly connected with what you truly really want, that deep inner desires,  and you have that direction for your life, it can give you hope,  right?

It can make your life more joyful, even through the struggles. It can be the fuel that you need to push on through this time.

So stick with me.  Come back every week. Share this episode. Leave us a rating, leave us a review. It will help so many others hear this message. And get connected with what they truly want.  So we can start living our lives with intention. Hope and joy.
