Hey doc, it is the day after the election and the time of this recording, it is November 6, 2024, and I am strangely at peace. Well, not so strangely. I've actually put a lot of work into being able to be at peace and Not be completely broken and heartbroken and all the things that I'm seeing other people are saying because I prioritize my mental health and protected fiercely with a vengeance and I truly believe that has Prepared me for this moment and also I am a black woman that lives in the United States of America With a very firm grip on reality So it's like I'm disappointed not gonna lie You But am I shocked and surprised and devastated?
Nah. No, I'm not. But I was listening to a book this morning, actually about marketing, nothing to do with political or anything. And there was this quote that he said that Made me smile. I actually had to, you know, rewind it because I was listening and write it down Because it was so relevant for the time that we are in right now Because when I woke up this morning, I found out actually one of my clients messaged me to see how upset she was and
I went onto Facebook, which, I was kind of expecting to see what I saw, which was a lot of, how did we get here? I don't know how this could happen. What do we do? People trying to move out to the United States, like all of these things. And that, how did we get here? How did this happen? The confusion.
Again, unsurprised, right? Right. But let me read the quote, he says, humans are funny creatures. We all like to think that we make rational, logical decisions, but it's really not that way. In fact, the vast majority of our decisions and behaviors are based on emotion and mental programming. And then we use our precious logic to justify those decisions.
And It made me smile because before the election, I heard all sorts of justifications, all sorts of reasons why Kamala Harris was not fit to be the president of the United States of America. Very logical things, I, those people, I'm sure believe what they were saying and they believed that it was logical but, like he said, The vast majority of our decisions and behaviors are based on emotion and mental programming. So when you think about the situation where you have a highly, some would say over qualified black woman running for the President of the United States against a negatively qualified bigot, dictator, wannabe.
Who is also a criminal. And then you wonder, how did this happen? Did we really wonder? Like, there's no mystery here. And then there's not a lot of mystery for many people who are aware to the realities of what it means to live in the United States of America. So I just thought that was very interesting because I went and I saw things that I expected to see on Facebook.
And then I listened to that and I was just like, yep. People, they really, they really believe that there were all these logical reasons, but emotion and mental programming. And I will let you deduce what the emotions were, what the mental programming is that would allow this person to be elected to the highest office of the land.
So, I hope that. You take care of yourself today and in the future days and weeks, because I'm actually not sure when this is going to come out. I'm actually not sure if I'm going to release it. I probably am. Because if there's one thing that I have learned on this journey of, you know, launching Doctor Tori coaching, launching this podcast, is that I am not for everyone.
But more importantly, I want my people, that not only can relate to me, but also see me. They see me as human, they see me as their equal, they see me as a sister, as a friend, as somebody that can help them. Get to their dream life and get everything that their heart desires and That means all of me that doesn't mean hiding back opinions and strong feelings that I have because I mean you don't know all of me and There's a reason that I did this as my podcast and not as a social media post Because there's buy in here like you chose to listen To this episode and I am so grateful for it.
So this is who I am. This is part of how I think and what I believe
the things that I share here, like I say on the trailer It's unfiltered and real. And it is related to motherhood, because these decisions that we make, this future that we are building, is for these children. We're not going to be here. And the repercussions of these decisions, these emotional decisions that we make, these decisions we make off of mental programming, are going to affect our children.
So all of this is relevant to us as physicians, us as moms. So hopefully you didn't listen to this and was like, what is this? Why, why are we getting political? It is all a part of thriving in medicine and motherhood. It is all a part of feeling a little more seen and a lot less alone. All of these things matter.
I want to wish you peace and rest, make sure you take care of yourself, and prioritize your mental health in this time. Because, at the end of the day, that's all that matters, if you are still reeling from the results of this election, then check out the How To Deal With Overwhelm episode. I think it has some good tips and it's what I use and it's again how I'm able to be at peace and really it's because I understand humans and like, like this guy said, it's predictable.
It's really predictable behavior, right? So take care of yourself, doc. I'll see stethoscopes and strollers.
