Chris Nafis

Chris Nafis is the Pastor of Living Water Church of the Nazarene, a hospital chaplain, and sometimes an Adjunct Professor at Point Loma Nazarene University's School of Theology and Christian Ministry. A graduate of Duke Divinity School, Chris has been serving as a pastor in disadvantaged communities in San Diego since 2010. Led by the Holy Spirit, he and a team of faithful followers of Jesus planted Living Water Church at the epicenter of homelessness in San Diego in 2018.

Dr. Ellen F. Davis

Amos Ragan Kearns Distinguished Professor of Bible and Practical Theology at Duke Divinity School.

Her research interests focus on how biblical interpretation bears on the life of faith communities and their response to urgent public issues, particularly the ecological crisis and interfaith relations. Scripture, Culture, and Agriculture: An Agrarian Reading of the Bible, integrates biblical studies with a critique of industrial agriculture and food production. Biblical Prophecy: Perspectives for Christian Theology, Discipleship and Ministry, explores the prophetic role and word across both Testaments of the Christian Bible. Her most recent books are Preaching the Luminous Word, a collection of her sermons and essays, and Opening Israel’s Scriptures, a comprehensive theological reading of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament.

A lay Episcopalian, she has long been active as a theological consultant within the Anglican Communion.

Dr. Rebecca Laird

Dr. Rebecca Laird teaches Christian formation and pastoral ministry courses. She had a first career in publishing while she was actively involved in urban church planting in San Francisco. An ordained minister, she has served churches in New Jersey and California and led more than 40 spiritual retreats. She has written or co-written seven books including Ordained Women in the Church of the Nazarene: The First Generation and four books on the writings of Henri Nouwen: Spiritual Formation, Spiritual Direction, Discernment, and The Heart of Henri Nouwen. She has traveled the world working on relief and development projects from Belarus to Uganda. She grew up in Idaho and is married to Michael Christensen. Together they have two adult daughters, Rachel and Megan. All four of their family members are proud alumni of Point Loma Nazarene University. Rebecca and Michael were jointly given the Distinguished Achievement alumni of PLNU award in 2008 for their years of ministry service.

Isaac Villegas

Isaac Samuel Villegas is an ordained minister in the Mennonite Church USA. He is also a columnist for The Christian Century and Anabaptist World. His pastoral life has involved him in the work of community organizing and activism for immigrant justice. He lives in North Carolina.

He authored Migrant God: A Christian Vision for Immigrant Justice and currently studies as a PhD student in religion Duke University.

Melissa Florer-Bixler

Melissa is the pastor of Raleigh Mennonite Church, and a graduate of Duke University and Princeton Theological Seminary. Melissa's writing regularly appears Christian Century, where she is a Voices columnist. She has also written for Sojourners, Geez, Anabaptist Witness, The Bias, Image Journal, Faith&Leadership, and Anabaptist Vision. She is the author of Fire By Night: Finding God in the Pages of the Old Testament and How to Have an Enemy: Righteous Anger and the Work of Peace. As co-chair of the Wake County Community Remembrance Project, she helps to establish memorial for victims of race-based lynching. Melissa organizes around efforts to shift resources from policing and prison to community wellness.
