Yes, we have made it. Welcome to Group X Appeal. What episode is this, Kimberly? Ten! Ten double digits! We need a party. Give me ten. Not five. Give me ten. What a in my room. So welcome. Thank you so much for sticking with us. And if you haven't stuck with us for the last nine, thank you for joining us for the first time. Make sure you listen to the past nine, by the way. yeah. So today is all about one of the sexy six.

pieces. And this one's awesome because we're going to be talking about intellectual well-being. And how would you describe intellectual well-being, Kimberly? You know, it's pretty simple because we, we've talked about during our five tips for fueling your body, how important it is to fuel your body with healthy things, right? Well, it's just as important to fuel your mind in a healthy way too. So a definition would be simply

having the willingness to learn continuously so that we are ever evolving and just kind of becoming more of who are here to be. Absolutely. Love it. Great description. And you have a quote you shared in an earlier episode. Do remember which episode it was? Cause I don't unfortunately. I totally do not. Okay. Well that's another reason why not only do we encourage you to listen to the last nine, but we're to have to go back to and find out where it is, but we're going to share it here. Absolutely. So

So this is a quote that my mom has been saying my entire life, my wise wise mama, my beautiful, beautiful wise mama. And, and she listens to the show. I tell you that? love it. Tell her, thank you. Thank you mama. Thanks. My beautiful mama. I actually call her MBM. Yeah. Just like you're the, my brother from another mother, my B-Fam. She's my MBM. I love it. I acronym everybody and everything. Well, you got to save time. You know, life's short. So my mama always used to say,

You are either green and growing or you are ripe and rotting. But the good news is every day you wake up, you get to decide which one you're going to be. I want to be growing. And here's five different tips that we're going to be sharing with you. And I love that quote, by the way, NBM. got five tips for you so you can continue being green and growing like Kimberly's mom's shared. And the very first one, I'll show the first one and then you've got the rest. Is that all right? No.

We're going to alternate. All right. Let's alternate. what we do. Teamwork makes a dream work. I love it. Together, everybody achieves so much more. That's right. So number one, take advantage of your commute time. This is something that I learned early on as a kid. my dad used to listen to people like Jim Rohn on cassette tape. think, yeah, cassette tape. he would listen to audio in the car. though. Not an 8 track. Yeah, I don't think they had Jim Rohn on 8 track.

But they definitely had Jim Rohn, Zig Ziglar. He had all kinds of greats. He would listen to Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, like constantly. And we would be driving either to school and back, or as a child, I grew up as an actor. And so we would drive from one of the suburbs of Los Angeles into the city, into Los Angeles, which is about an hour drive there and then back. So two hour round trip.

And I was learning all kinds of stuff, even though I wasn't interested at the time. But you know, listening, some of it sunk in though. I think it did. And I didn't realize that until probably like my thirties, but audio books listening to nowadays, instead of listening cassette tapes or a tracks podcasts, right? A podcast. Yeah. What is there? He say a podcast like group X podcast perhaps. Right. But, and my dad, by the way,

listens to our podcast. Now that you mentioned your mom. So he sent me some quotes, text me stuff that we've been talking about on the episodes, which like just made me smile from ear to ear. taking advantage of that commute time, my dad would call that mobile university. So you're getting your education while you're in the car. Some people call that net time or no extra time, but we call that he called it mobile university. And so

got a lot of that, of talks. Les Brown also is another one. I love Les Brown. Yeah. So as all these people are coming in. Yeah, gotta be hungry. how do you, your commute time, what does that sound Can I just say for the record though, NetTime has always confused me. Tony Robbins always spoke about NetTime and he called it no extra time. I'm like, but if you're really going to play out the acronym and call it NetTime, what you're actually saying is no extra time time.

Time, time, the T is time. I said net time. So no extra time time. Double net time time. Anyway. Yeah. That's a big one. Do you take advantage of your commute time? Cause your commute is not that far. Absolutely. But you know, whether I am in the car for 10 minutes or an hour, I will have either an audio book or a podcast, that, that allows me to

Cause I do believe just like you were saying when you were growing up that you were listening to things you weren't even necessarily interested in. I'm a big believer that even in small doses, what we listen to takes root. it just, it plants seeds and we have the opportunity to continuously learn and learn not only about things externally, but learn more about ourselves through that time. So yeah, I use that time for sure. For sure. So another resource that I love, just dawned on me right now in the morning when I

travel to teach a class and I'm an early riser so I love teaching yoga like at 5 45 he teaches early like when he's teaching is still last night if you're gonna be if you're gonna be real about it it's just still last night it's all dark and so but my commute was like 10 minutes yeah and so was like okay what can I do in 10 minutes and so I would I basically I still do this

go to YouTube and you can type in 10 minute affirmations. And they could be 10 minute affirmations on any topic, whether it's prosperity, whether it's abundance, whether it's good health, whatever topic you're interested in, type that in the search window and you'll get some really amazing, amazing YouTube videos or affirmation clips. Which we don't watch while we're commuting. We're listening. But we listen. Yeah, we listen.

A can happen in couple of your favorites. I have a favorite when I listen to every day. It's a 10 minute affirmation. I'll send it to you. All right. We'll have to swap. didn't know you did that. We're swapping every day. Affirmations. There was one that I fell in love with a couple of years ago and I've never gotten tired of it. All right. We're to to share that with, with you, the listener. Yeah. Right. and then one of my other favorites just really quickly is an app called headway. so headway is a, an app that takes some of the top, top selling books in any

field or topics that you're interested in and it will condense. It's kind of like Cliff Notes. I think I've heard about audio for 10 minutes. You'll get the entire Cliff Notes version of books. so, so the seven unread books in my audible right now. Yeah. then you can it in 10 minutes. my gosh. Seriously. Yeah. I have, I have a shelf help a show section at home for the same, for the same reason. because it just, I just, see a I want it to be both audible and hard copy books. Like I want the book. want the book. I want to read it. And then I just have too many. I purchased them too fast. happens. That happens. Well, headway will allow you to even see if you would have interest in certain books. So, I like that. That's cool. Headway. There we go. All right. So that was a phenomenal tip. Taking that commute time to ensure you are

continuing to fuel your mind with positive things that help you grow and evolve as a human being. Awesome. And then what about if we were to take the time, hopefully, you you listen to our physical wellbeing episode. talk specifically about moving your body. So what about while you're moving and strengthening your body, you also strengthen your mind. Absolutely. So, I know for a lot of people, in fact, you might even be listening to us right now while you're working out, just like you might've been listening to us while you're driving somewhere too. but I always, when I'm working out,

But it gives you the opportunity to, again, listen to audio books and podcasts and affirmation tracks and all kinds of things that are uplifting and will cause you to maybe see things a little differently, learn new things, expand your horizons and just, you know, become more smarter. More smart like. More smart like. I want to be more smart like. With my tiny ears. Tiny ears, big brain.

Big, more space. one of my favorites when I go for my walks or whether it's outside or on a treadmill, we didn't mention languages. yes. So there's so many great resources now. yeah. You know, there's so many great apps out there where you can learn just about any language on the planet. One that I love that I've been using for several months is called Pimsleur and been studying Japanese and our government. A lot of our government officials will use who are traveling, they'll use Pimsleur because it's very immersive. You can learn very, very quickly conversational languages and there's a list of tons of them. So that's one of my favorites. So 30 minute lessons every single day. So, headway and Pimsleur. Yeah. Got it. Absolutely. So just a couple. So languages as well, can help you can expand your mind in that way. If you'd like to learn any language.

That's awesome. So number three, our other tip is learning while you do tasks around the house. If you're doing chores, housework, yard work, building an Ikea shelf. I added that because I thought it was funny. That's great. I've done that before too. That's no joke. That is no joke. Yeah. So that's the best time. You're active, you're moving, and you can actually

get in flow as well. know, well moment personally, I can't get in flow doing chores, building an IKEA show. Do you use the instructions? you use the direction? Okay. I don't. I'm scared. A lot of as the table classes. So yeah, doing tasks or chores around the house, laundry, whatever folding. Yeah. Why not make it more productive? Absolutely.

Net time, no extra time time. right. So tip number four is all about learning new information. So could there be workshops or master classes or courses or certifications that you could take online in person?

For sure. I have some friends that take classes at local colleges and there's the opportunity to do something like that or at a community center. But if you don't have something local that interests you, then online, the world is at your fingertips. No joke. You can find workshops, courses, master classes, the ability to learn about any topic under the sun. takes nothing more than a short Google session and you'll have lots of choices.

I do want to say that an additional invitation I have for you that's been really impactful for me is if you have an industry that you're in, an area of passion that you're already kind of living in, obviously learning more about that space is not only interesting because it's an area of passion, but it also can be really helpful and productive with regards to either your career or the work that you want to do. by all means look for opportunities to grow in the space that you already live in, but also look for opportunities to learn and grow in either adjacent industries or an industry completely outside of what you normally focus on that you just might also be interested in. Because it's really cool to be able to, like when I was you know, first getting into management in the fitness industry, could say management does apply in this, this area, but I had really only focused on learning in health and fitness space and then yoga as that came along. but then I started focusing more on leadership, business management strategies, things like that. And in order to do that, I had to go outside of my, my comfort industry and find, you know, workshops and courses and you know, conferences and things like that to go to where I could learn about this other area that I'm interested in, whether it ever related back to the work I did day day or not. And the good news was it did end up relating back to the work I did every day. So look for the opportunities to learn and grow, not only professionally, of course, but personal growth is a lifelong journey. And there are lots of resources out there that will help you on your path to just become more of who you're here to be.

which I think is when we are the happiest is when we're on the, on the path to becoming more of who we're here to be. Absolutely. just got all kind of esoteric, didn't I? Yeah. But that I love that. That's me. I love that. So, you know, and to do that, to break outside your, your mold or big outside that comfort zone, it's going to be uncomfortable. It's always uncomfortable. Right. but that's when you know, once you step outside that, that circle of that realm of comfort, that's when you know,

You're in a space of growth now. so don't be afraid of that. Don't be afraid of the discomfort. Don't be afraid of not being necessarily aware. But you don't have to know everything in that adjacent space like you were talking about. keep an open mind. Keep an open mind. You know, it's interesting that you say it the way that you said it, because I kind of got to a point, especially, well, honestly, both professionally and personally, I look for discomfort.

I look for opportunities to get a little uncomfortable because I know on the other side of that, I'm going to be stronger for that. And more confident. And it'll make your area of expertise, it'll make you even stronger in that area as well, even though it may not even be remotely related. There's a saying that says, your mind's like a parachute, right? It only works when it's open. So keep that open mind and don't be afraid of stepping outside that comfort zone because there's a

There's all kinds of opportunity waiting for you for sure. So Wayne Dyer, who I know we both love as a teacher, he always used to say when he'd give his talks, have a mind that is open to everything, but attached to nothing. Yeah. I love that. I love that. you know, leaning on your community, like we're doing now and like you're doing as well by listening, you're leaning into your community. you could do things like connecting with a mentor and some people like,

Where do I find a mentor? Like Kimberly said, there's so many resources to learn. Whatever topic that you're interested in, there's also tons of resources to find mentors. don't, know, just Google search. Yeah. Quick and easy Google search. And it doesn't even have to be a face to face. You know, your mentorship can come through different forms, whether it be a book, whether it be a podcast, whether it be, right.

Or meet in person zoom now technology just allows us to you know to connect with people Where there are no boundaries there are no limits and so Facebook as well another technology any other technologies or platforms or resources that you can think of yeah, you know, think you know going old school and just taking a look at especially when it comes to professional professional or personal growth either one if you look at your existing community or maybe broaden it out a bit to the industry community and do you see someone who is where you'd like to be? You know, it can never hurt to reach out to that person, whether it's sending them a message through social media or an email through their website or something along those lines, reach out to them and ask if they have time to jump on a call or zoom or if their local meetup for coffee or lunch or something. and pick their brain because I know we both are big believers in this that we learned from Jim Rome, but success leaves clues. it is. leaves clues. So if you see someone who is experiencing success in something, anything you want to do from a business venture to a 5k, know, whatever it might be, then get in touch with that person because that's a potential mentor. So absolutely. Yeah. Success definitely leaves clues. again, that may be a situation where you might feel uncomfortable again reaching out to somebody. But A, the worst they can say is no. And if that's okay, it perhaps is no just for now. You can approach, re-approach later. But do know, number two, most people are flattered. They would love to share their wisdom, to share their knowledge, to share their experience with somebody else, especially if it's gonna help them grow. And that's the person that you would want to get mentored by anyway. You wouldn't want someone who's going to be a gatekeeper. Right. And here's something to add to that. And again, this is something that I'll speak for myself, but I know this guy well enough that I'm speaking for both of us because we've both had the privilege of being mentors for others. And what you need to realize when you reach out to someone and ask them to mentor you in any area, like when someone reaches out to me, it's not just about helping them grow. Like every time I work with someone, whether it's someone in a mentorship experience or a client, a coach client or someone that I work with, I grow. So if you reach out to the person who thinks like we think, then we see it as an opportunity to continue to hone our craft. I think we should continue to get better at knowing what we know and being able to simplify complicated information and be able to communicate and articulate it clearly. So it's definitely not only flattering. But yeah, it's a win-win.

Especially if you're buying me an iced tea at Starbucks. I'm just saying. always works. Hint, hint. So that's a great point. And I think it's a win-win-win because the other thing is as a mentor, one of the things that we also consider and we know that when we're mentoring somebody, it's going to be a ripple effect. Yeah. They're going to share that information with others, you know? And so you're expanding the goodness. You're expanding the light and expanding the knowledge and it's just through one single person can make a huge difference. Yeah, I say this to my coaches all the time. So I'll say it to you listening or watching in any role you play, if you are in a role where you either uplift or nurture others, so maybe you're, you're in a leadership role by title, or maybe it's just that you are a leader among your community, your friends, your family, or just a maybe a child looks up to you in any way, shape or form. If you are in a position to be an uplifter to other people in this world, then remember that your growth and evolution becomes the growth and evolution of everyone else whose life you touch. Amen. I love it. So those are our basic five tips or strategies, whatever you want to call them to

You know, sexy five, the funky five, the funky five, the funky five of intellectual wellbeing. What, what did we sound smart to when we share those things? feel like we sounded smart. sound intellectual. I think so. All right. What do you think? Yeah. Let us know. also, maybe don't don't let us know. Keep that to yourself, but do let us know which one of those, you know, one of those tips you utilize on a regular basis.

Do you list, what do you listen to when you're in the car? What do you listen to when you're working, doing chores? What's your favorite, favorite audio book or podcast? Hey, what's your favorite podcast or favorite teacher? You know, there are certain go-to people that I listen to like Wayne Dyer and Marianne Williamson and just certain, Simon Sinek. Simon Sinek. stop it. Jim Rohn. Jim Rohn. So many great teachers. Dean's awesome. Yeah. Good stuff.

So yeah, let us know. is it you like to learn from, whether it be in person or from afar? There's just so much opportunity in this big world, and our ability to connect now is so incredible.
