Somewhere along the way, self-care became a shopping list – the candles, the retreats, the right app, the routine that starts before sunrise. And when we can’t do it, afford it or sustain it, many of us quietly decide that self-care must belong to other women. Women with more time, more money, fewer people needing them.

This series is a gentle rebellion against that story.

In the opening episode of She Snippets, Narelle introduces the idea at the heart of Series 5: the micro moment. A pocket of care so small it can hide inside an ordinary day – thirty seconds, one breath, one kind sentence to yourself instead of a harsh one. Drawing on conversations, workshops and podcast yarns with women across Western Australia, she shares why these smallest of moments have created the biggest shifts – and why the research keeps telling us that frequency matters more than grandeur.

In This Episode

•     What a micro moment is – and why it is not the consolation prize version of self-care, but the version that works because it actually happens

•     Why small, repeated moments of care do more for our wellbeing over time than the occasional grand gesture we are too exhausted to enjoy

•     Three sentences we are gently retiring this series: “I don’t have time”, “I can’t afford it” and “It’s selfish”

•     Your first micro moment – a single breath practice you can carry into the next hour of your day

Your Micro Moment for Today

Sometime in the next hour, whenever you are in need of a pause: exhale a full breath, inhale a full breath, exhale again – and as you do, say to yourself, “I’m here. This counts.”

That’s it. That’s the whole practice. That’s where we begin.

Quotable Moments

“A micro moment isn’t the consolation prize version of self-care. It’s actually the version that works, because it’s the version that actually happens.”

— Narelle

“Thirty seconds of kindness toward yourself takes nothing from anyone, but it changes who arrives in the next moment of your day. The people around you get her, too.”

— Narelle

“I’m here. This counts.”
