Ben Borger

Ben is currently the Clinical Director of the EHN Red Deer Recovery Community.  He moved to Red Deer from BC, where he was working in an inpatient treatment facility to be apart of opening the Recovery Community in Red Deer.  Ben has over ten years of experience in recovery through professional and personal experience.  The bulk of his experience has been within recovery-orientated systems of care.  Ben recently completed his Master of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University.  This involved conducting research on individuals' perceptions of care while attending inpatient treatment for substance use disorder.  In his free time, Ben participates in Competitive Strongman becoming Alberta's Strongest Man in 2024.

Crystal Bell MSW, RSW

Crystal is the Executive Director of EHN Outpatient Services. She has worked in the healthcare field since the mid-1990s. Crystal holds a Master of Social Work and has certifications in Cognitive Processing Therapy, Seeking Safety, and Trauma-Informed Leadership. She is dedicated to providing accessible, evidence-based treatment. Crystal believes in fostering a culture of safety, quality, and excellence to ensure every client receives the highest standard of care.

Dr. Amanda Tobe

Dr. Amanda Tobe is passionate about helping professionals, leaders, and students overcome performance anxiety and build fulfilling careers. She guides clients through their job search journey, infusing each step with values that align with their professional aspirations.  In addition, Amanda is the author of a 10-week public speaking group designed to help her members fear less and speak more. She is a solutions-oriented practitioner who is known for her ability to identify resources, invent activities and even leverage technology to support her clients in reaching their career goals. Amanda earned her Masters and PhD in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from the University of Guelph and is a member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario.

Dr. Meagan Yarmey

Dr. Meagan Yarmey is an insightful clinician, researcher, and educator with over 20 years of experience in higher education and the private sector. Geoff Ingram

Geoff Ingram is a reformed political staffer who left politics to get sober. After attending EHN Edgewood Nanaimo, Geoff discovered a passion for working with individuals suffering from addictions and mental health issues. He has been working at EHN Edgewood Nanaimo for almost five years working as clinical support staff, research assistant and counsellor. At the same time, he completed a BA in Psychology with an addictions certificate from Vancouver Island University. Currently, Geoff is attending McGill University working on a Master of Science in Public Health and hopes to continue serving the addictions community

Lindsey Snaychuk

She is the National Research Coordinator for EHN Canada. Lindsey began implementing research initiatives at EHN Edgewood Nanaimo in 2018 and has worked to roll out the protocol across the network over the past year. Her team has published multiple peer-reviewed articles on EHN Canada’s treatment outcomes and is working on several projects dedicated to determining predictors of attrition. She’s currently leading measurement-based care initiatives at EHN to inform treatment and maximize outcomes. Lindsey is also working towards her doctoral degree in clinical psychology and works closely with individuals with addiction and concurrent mental health concerns which helps inform her research.

Michael Friedman


 As a Cancer survivor of 12 years (As of March 26, 2025), and a patient who has been through a half-year of chemotherapy treatment, surgeries, and countless checkups for Ewing's Sarcoma, Michael has a unique understanding of what it means to be sick, recovered, and everything in between. 

 

Inspired by his experience, Michael chooses to try and live his life to the fullest as a full-time musician, producing and recording music for artists, playing drums on stages in L.A., Texas, Vancouver, and his hometown of Toronto, and fulfilling his dream despite the many challenges that arise in such a precarious field. Michael hopes to navigate the mental and emotional challenges of navigating the long-lasting effects of illness and having a positive, but honest, outlook on life.

Monika Frejlich

Monika Frejlich is an accomplished government relations and communications professional with a strong track record across the public and non-profit sectors. Her policy insight and ability to assess frontline challenges led her to serve within the Ontario Government, contributing to ministry-level initiatives and strategic priorities. 


Now, as Vice President of Communications for the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF), she leads national communications strategy, government relations, and public education initiatives.


Monika has been recognized not only for her strategic clarity and collaborative approach, but also for her unique ability to identify systemic gaps—and build the solutions, partnerships, and programs required to close them. Most recently, she has played a key role in developing standardized Intimate Partner Violence training for police services across Canada.

Nick Halmasy

Nick is a firefighter of 15 years, registered psychotherapist, founder of After the Call (a free online resource for first responders and their families), and a research collaborator with McMaster and Western University. Nick has publications with the FireWell research lab, Crackyl Magazine, Firefighting in Canada and Canadian Firefighting, International Firefighting, Firefighter Nation and other publications. He’s appeared in news articles and on podcasts discussing, and critiquing, the state of mental health education and treatment in Canadian Firefighting. He’s also the Clinical Director for the EHN Guardians Gateway centre and will be beginning a PhD with Western University in the Fall looking at the mental health impacts of volunteer Firefighters.

R. Nicholas Carleton, PhD

R. Nicholas Carleton is a Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Regina, Director of the Psychological Trauma and Stress Systems Lab, and a registered clinical psychologist in Saskatchewan. He serves as an active member of several national and international professional associations, and as a volunteer research advisor for numerous organizations. 


He focuses on the mental health of first responders and other public safety personnel. He has published 270+ peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, completed 500+ national and international conference presentations, and been awarded $100M+ in competitive funding.
