What's up, guys, welcome back to the Win On Purpose podcast. In this episode it's gonna be a little bit different than our previous episodes. It's more of just kind of a off-the-cuff rant episode talking about why I decided to pursue a career and personal training, why I take this so serious and why I'm so passionate about helping as many people as I can, guys. So it's not as cheerful of an episode as normal, but some very good information for you guys and hopefully inspire you to take control of your health for the good Hope you enjoy.

What's going on? Everybody Hope you guys are having a fantastic week. It is Friday when I'm recording this. It is the 20th and probably be releasing this sometime within the next few days. This is just kind of like an extra episode, if you will, going to kind of get away from my normal format that I've been doing, because really, I just wanted to talk to you guys and just you know, this episode is going to be a little bit more serious.

Speaker 1:

You know, I like to try to keep things positive and light for the most part, but sometimes we have to have those real talks, we have to really face reality and we have to make some decisions on how we're going to carry ourselves and conduct our lives, considering just where we're at as a nation, you know, and as a world, really, when it comes to our health and our well-being. So, you know, a lot of times I have discussions about being a trainer, being a coach, being a personal trainer, you know, being an online coach, whatever you want to call it. You know people will ask me. Well, you know, I thought that that's kind of like a part-time job. I thought that's kind of like something people do on the side, outside of their regular income, and for a lot of people that's true. Then there are some of us who decide to take it beyond that and go full time or, you know, actually start a career out of it, like opening our own facility or something of that nature. So, you know, people ask well, you know why. Why do you feel like you're going to be successful? Like, is that, you know, is that really an industry where you can make a lot of money? Is that really an industry where you can create longevity and financial security, things like that? And for a lot of people the answer is no. Like. Let's just be real. Like you know, being a trainer, being a coach, is not an easy job. It's not easy to keep clients. It's not easy to get clients, it's not easy to keep steady income, you know, unless you just have like a really, really big name or you go super viral for something and maybe you're successful for a period of time. But for a lot of people that fades off.

Speaker 1:

And so many people get into this career because they just have a passion for fitness, they really like to train, they love to work out, they love to be in the gym and they figure what's better than working, making money doing what I love to do, doing what I want to do all day anyway. So it makes a lot of sense. There is there's some good logic to why that would make sense, because typically we're taught to go after our passions when it comes to our career and do things that we really love doing. So if you're passionate or obsessed with fitness and all that comes with it, then makes perfect sense, right? Or maybe somebody had a crazy transformation themselves and now they're like okay, you know what, now that I see how my life has changed, now that I see how I've become this new person and enjoying all these benefits, I wanna help as many people as I can to experience the same thing I did, so they get into this career. So different reasons why people do, but at the end of the day, you know, it's still the reality that it's not an easy industry to be in, especially on the long term basis, and be successful. You know, when you have bills to pay, you have a family to take care of things like that. So why would I even decide to do this full time? Why would I decide to take the risk you know, put my family at risk by branching out on my own, starting a facility, you know, doing this as a full-time career and establishing myself. And really, you know, obviously I have a passion for fitness. You know I have a passion for training. I have a passion for teaching people, helping people, guiding people to take back their life, to improve their health, to overcome their health circumstances, to just really become the best version of themselves.

Speaker 1:

And a lot of time that starts with how we feel, and how we feel is directly related to how we treat our bodies, from what we put in them to what we do with them, to how we recover them. All these things ultimately determine how we operate in all things in life. So if you feel terrible, you're probably going to perform terrible at work. You're probably going to be a terrible parent and spouse. You're probably just not going to be all that great of a person, not morally, necessarily, but just energy-wise. How well you apply yourself to things, how much you're excited to get up and go make things happen when we don't feel good and we're not healthy. We just don't really want to do a lot of that, or we just aren't up to it, or our bodies just won't allow us when we take care of our health and our fitness and our well-being. This leads to other areas of our life and improving other areas of our life, so it's so much bigger than just health and fitness at the end of the day. That's kind of the point I'm making there and that's why I am even more passionate, not just about health and fitness, but about truly helping people. Because I had to come to the realization of why I do what I do, why I really do what I do. And this is what drove me to step out on my own and pursue this and try to really make as big of an impact as I can. Because I came to the realization that.

Speaker 1:

But training and coaching is not a luxury like people think it is. A lot of people think that this is a luxury like, oh, if someone has just the extra money to blow, then they can do this, and it's just like going to get pedicures and Swedish massages and things like that that just make you feel good and you feel like you're being productive. And if you don't have the money for it or you don't just have a lot of extra money to throw away, then you probably shouldn't do training. That's a lot of people's perspective on it. It was mine as well. For a long time.

Speaker 1:

I came to the realization that this is way, way bigger than just a luxury of being able to be put through a good workout. I came to the realization that my job is actually to help save people's lives. Like when I'm working with someone, when I'm starting with someone new, I don't look at it as, oh, this is an opportunity to make money, or this is an opportunity to help somebody get jacked, or help somebody get really lean, or help somebody look good in their bathing suit, or help somebody be more attractive to the opposite sex, or help somebody you know X, y and Z. And though all those things are good and all, there's nothing wrong with those and those are perfectly fine reasons to want to start improving yourself, that's not really what it's about. What it's really about is helping to save lives.

Speaker 1:

When I'm looking at this new person that I'm working with is helping to save lives. When I'm looking at this new person that I'm working with, I'm thinking what can I do for this person to help them see what they need to do to better themselves and get off the path that they're on, which is a path of self-destruction? Let's just be for real and get on the path of actually taking care of themselves and bettering themselves and bettering their quality of life and feeling their best and avoiding disease and sickness and illness and really just being able to live the life that they want to live. And that's really where my eyes were open and I realized, like, just how important what I do is to the world. Okay, it's not just, hey, I put through people through a good workout and that's it Like no, I'm, I'm guiding people to change their life, change the way that they live, change the way they treat themselves, so that they can live longer, so that they can avoid disease and sickness, so that they don't have to go through the cancer diagnosis, so they, you know, they don't have to go through, you know, taking medications for 20, 30, 40, 50 years of the rest of their life just to stay alive, so they don't have to be stuck in a recliner on their couch all the time because they don't feel good enough to move around or their body's broken because they don't use it properly, and so they can't go play, they can't go run around, they can't go do what they want to do and you know, honestly, we die quicker when we're stuck like that, like the more sedentary we are, the shorter life we're likely going to live and definitely the less quality of life we're going to experience because of that.

Speaker 1:

So that was really, like I said, the eye opener for me. That made me realize just how important what I do is. You know, and then again seeing how it affects people's lives, seeing how people's lives are completely changed, that their relationships are changed, that they're you know they're how productive they are at work improves. You know they get the promotions they build the confidence to step out on their own and start their own business. All these different things that come from what they're learning in the gym and what they're learning through discipline, through their dieting and through their eating and their lifestyle.

Speaker 1:

You know being expressing self-control. You know having structure in their life, being disciplined. You know being self-accountable, because no one's going to tell you to go to bed on time when you know you need to to get adequate sleep and recovery. You have to do that yourself. No one's watching you in the middle of the night when you get up for a drink of water and the snack cabinet's calling your name. Nobody's watching you when you're driving to work and you've got an extra 10 minutes and you've got the donut shop and McDonald's breakfast on each corner and you, you know you're navigating. If you want to stop or not, no one's there for any of that. That's something that you have to do yourself, that we have to do ourselves.

Speaker 1:

So you know, that's just. That's. That's why I do what I do, guys Like that's why I feel that the industry that I'm in there's always going to be a need. For as long as we're human beings, as long as we live in the food environment that we're in, as long as life gets more and more comfortable and it's easier to do less and get more, there's always going to be a need for people to have someone they can go to that's going to hold them over the fire, that's going to hold them accountable and show them how to do it and guide them to get there. So you know, I'm just going to drop a few numbers on you guys real quick, because I just I looked up this based on 2024 alone, and this is why I do what I do, guys. This is what I mean by when I say my job helps save lives. All right, yes, that sounds dramatic. I get it. I'm not a first responder. I'm not a police officer, I'm not, you know, in the military, nothing like that. But as a trainer, as a health coach, our job helps save lives. How is that so?

Speaker 1:

In 2024 alone, approximately 101,209 people in America died from diabetes complications. Just in 2024, just in America, over 100,000 people, about 931,578 people in America alone, died from cardiovascular diseases in 2024. All right, the projection of stroke deaths is around 137,000 people per year. So it's still projected in 2024, we're going to have over 100,000 people that will have died from strokes. Okay, all three of these conditions and all the conditions that are surrounding these are almost all lifestyle. You know situations outside of, like type 1 diabetes, but type 2 diabetes specifically. Almost all of these are lifestyle issues, guys. Almost all of these are tied to how we live our life, to the amount of excess body fat we have, to how sedentary we are, to how poor our nutrition status is, to how poor our sleep is, how poor our stress management is. I just gave you over a million people. Over a million people have died in 2024 due to diseases that are almost all directly connected to lifestyle. Okay, let the weight of that set in.

Speaker 1:

Like I said, this is kind of a not as positive and happy as an episode, but this is just raw truth, guys. Over a million people have died or will have died by the end of this one calendar year. Now imagine what 2025 is going to be like, 2026 and so on, if we don't actually do something about this, if we don't start making changes as a whole. Imagine what this number is going to be like. I don't even want to know and I don't want to see it, and I'm hoping that we can make a change and do something about it, and that's why I've committed myself as as a career, to help as many people as I can to learn how to take care of themselves. So they don't have to be added to this sticky note here of numbers, so they don't have to become another statistic.

Speaker 1:

All right, this is, this is how much it means to me. So this is why I'm so passionate about helping people, not just about health and fitness and training, but about actually helping people. This is why I post as much as I do. This is why I started a podcast. This is why you know I do all the things that I do, because of this right here, because of how many family members I've had to watch, deal with these diseases and be wrecked by these diseases, by how many people, how many friends I have on Facebook and Instagram that are dealing with these conditions right now, that are in the hospital for these conditions right now, that have died in this year from these conditions. All right, it's completely heartbreaking and it's disturbing.

Speaker 1:

And just waiting around to trust that the medical industry is going to do something different or the food industry is going to do something different or whoever is going to come save the day, is absolutely ridiculous and it just all it does is it takes the pressure off of us and it takes the accountability off of us and the responsibility off of us, and it takes the accountability off of us and the responsibility off of us and it puts it somewhere else and nobody's going to do anything for us. Nobody's coming to change any of this. Guys like we have to be the ones that make that decision. So, as long as I'm alive, even if I, even if I decide one day, you know what I'm done with the gym life. I'm going to close it down, or I'm going to close it down, or I'm going to sell it off, or whatever. I'm always going to be helping people.

Speaker 1:

I spent a good part of the last decade and a half not actually working directly in this field, doing other careers, other jobs, other means of income, but I've always helped people. I've always. If people had questions, I would do the research I would find I would get to as close as what I can think of to be truth, based on the evidence that I could find, and try to give them the answers to help them. You know, I've I've written diet plans, I've written exercise regimens. I've done a lot of things for free that I you know for, and that's a pleasure to be able to do that. I wish that I just found a jackpot of money that I could retire off of and I would just literally do this for free. I would literally I'm not even just saying that, I would literally do what I do now for free, just to be able to help people, just to be able to see a change in this world. So you know, that's really this.

Speaker 1:

I guess you can just say this episode is more of a rant of you know, like, again, why do what I do? Why see this career as being so, so important? Why see it up there at the very top when it comes to proactive. I'm going to call it healthcare, you know. Proactive, just yeah, let's call it healthcare. All right, yeah, we're not included as the healthcare realm, but I'm going to call it healthcare because we're helping people care for their health. We're helping people improve and change their health. You know, out here on the front lines making it happen, all right.

Speaker 1:

So, guys, just kind of think about what I've said in this episode. Like I said, I don't want to bring down the mood. It's the end of the year, all the festivities are going on, all that good stuff, but we definitely need to think about this, guys, because we can't ignore this. Okay, we can't run from this. This problem is not going to go away on its own. It's not going to just disappear. All right, I wish it would.

Speaker 1:

You know they're coming out with more medications to help treat different things. You know these GLP-1 drugs like Monjaro and Ozempic, all these different weight loss drugs like these, can potentially cure obesity. You know, if everybody took them that was obese and they, you know, didn't have terrible side effects from them, or even bad enough side effects to not take them. This could cure diabetes. I mean sorry, this could cure obesity and that we're. We're probably not going to see an end to new medicines and treatments coming out that are going to keep helping people more and more.

Speaker 1:

But, at the end of the day, do we want to keep waiting around for them to develop the next good thing, the next medication that we can spend money on for the rest of our lives, rather than doing the things that are at least free to us, like going for walks and, you know, just making better food choices? Now, food isn't free, but you're already going to be spending money on food anyways, and at the rate of inflation, at the rate of groceries right now, there is no more cheap food. Like, even the cheap stuff isn't really cheap anymore and compared to the healthier stuff. So, you know, are we just going to keep waiting around for Superman to pop up and save the day, or are we going to take charge of our health and do what we know we need to do in order to improve it? So, as long as there's a need, guys, I'm going to be here in some fashion, some form.

You know this is my life mission. I'm going to be here in some fashion, some form. You know this is my life mission. You know, once I've changed my health and I've seen the benefits of improving it and have gone back and forth to see how difficult it is and you know all the things I've experienced from it and seeing the lives that I've been able to help impact by what I do, I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to be here until the problem is solved. The problem is solved, we're going to figure out something else to solve, but until then which probably isn't going to be anytime soon we're going to be here.

But the true hardest part is the commitment. It's making that phone call. It's booking that consultation. It's showing up for your appointment when you're supposed to. It's's deciding that you know what. I'm no longer going to take the easy route and just sit back, which is actually the hard route, because it may be easy in the immediate, but the effects from making that decision are way harder than showing up for a workout and choosing better foods and getting better sleep. Like those things become easy compared to being on this list of statistics between being stuck in a hospital bed. You know, and it's that serious to me, guys, like I said, I take this job that serious. All right, that's what it's all about, guys. So hopefully this was helpful to you and I hope that you do something good for yourself, that you do something good for your health, that you do something good for those around you and, whatever you do, make sure you win on purpose.
