Spiritual Bookshelf Episode 22 :How to Boost Your Memory and Learn More Effectively ?

飛利浦 Phillip

Hi there! How was your week?

Have you ever had that feeling where you just learned something—and poof—it’s gone? Or maybe you keep forgetting where you put your phone? Don’t worry, you’re definitely not alone.

Back in the 19th century, a psychologist named Hermann Ebbinghaus came up with something called the Forgetting Curve. It shows that we forget new information really quickly, especially in the first 24 hours. According to his research:

Right after learning, we remember 100%,After 20 minutes, only about 60%,After an hour, around 50%,After a day, just 30%.And after a week? Only 20%. After a month—maybe just 10%.

That means if we don’t review or use what we learned, most of it just disappears! That feels like such a waste, right?

Why does this happen? Well, our brains are designed to save energy. If something seems unimportant or isn’t reinforced, our brains will just delete it to make room for new things.

Today, we’re diving into a super fun and helpful book called Your Brain Is Your Superpower, originally written in German as Lassen Sie Ihr Hirn nicht unbeaufsichtigt! by Christiane Stenger. Christiane was a memory champion in Germany—several times! She still holds some records.

She reminds us of something amazing: Our brains are incredible!

They weigh about 1.4 kilograms (that’s roughly 3 pounds), and contain around 100 billion neurons. Each neuron can connect to about 10,000 others. That means our brains can form hundreds of trillions of connections—more than all the stars in the galaxy. That’s wild!

So the good news is—your brain isn’t “not good enough,” it’s just that most of us haven’t learned how to use it properly. With the right strategies, memory techniques, and mindset, we can unlock its full potential.

Today, I’ll walk you through 6 practical steps to help you study smarter and remember more—based on Christiane’s insights and a bit of my own experience.

Step 1: Use the Memory Palace – Make your thoughts crystal clear.

This technique is all about using visualization and space to organize your memory.

The stronger and funnier the image, the easier it sticks!

Step 2: Turn information into wild images – the weirder, the better!

Step 3: Break big information into chunks – stay organized, not overwhelmed.

Step 4: Use spaced repetition – review smart, not hard.

Review the material later the same day。Review again after 24 hours。Then once or twice during the week

Step 5: Practice under test conditions – train like it’s game day.

Step 6: Stay calm and confident – your mindset matters!

Let me tell you about someone from the Bible who had amazing learning and memory skills—Daniel!

He was taken to Babylon as a young man and had to learn a completely new language and culture.

The Bible says God gave him knowledge and understanding in all kinds of learning, and he was ten times wiser than the others!

Daniel could even understand dreams and visions.

His secret? He stayed close to God, prayed every day, and used his gifts wisely.

Lastly, don’t forget—get enough sleep and exercise before your big day. Sleep is your brain’s secret superpower.

We’re at the end of today’s episode—thanks so much for listening! I hope these 6 steps help you build stronger memory and more effective learning habits.
