Spiritual Bookshelf Episode 23 : How to Succeed in a Fast-Changing World ?

飛利浦 Phillip

Hi everyone, hope you had a great week!

Lately, the global economy has been pretty unpredictable, and it’s making a lot of people feel stressed. In the past, we could usually rely on contingency plans to adapt. But this time, it feels a little different — it’s harder to find a clear path forward.

One idea that really stands out comes from Nassim Nicholas Taleb’s book Antifragile.

He talks about how instead of just avoiding risks, we can actually grow stronger because of them. Taleb points out that most people think risks are something to minimize. But in reality, some things — like innovation, entrepreneurship, and technological breakthroughs — only happen when we step into uncertainty and pressure.

Even though none of us like stress, it often forces us to grow. According to Taleb, risks create a kind of “pressure field” that pushes systems, organizations, and individuals to level up and evolve. For example, businesses innovate because of competition, and people become more flexible during economic crises.

In other words, tough environments can actually speed up our growth, helping us achieve things in months that might otherwise take years.

Hi, I am Phillip! If you, like me, want to find ways to strengthen your resilience and adaptability in today’s unpredictable world, this episode might be just what you’re looking for.

In today’s information-overload and AI-driven age, it’s easy to look at successful leaders like Tadashi Yanai — the CEO of Uniqlo — and admire what they’ve achieved.

The real challenge for most of us isn’t knowing what to do. It’s actually doing it.

Today, we’re excited to share with you a classic book that’s all about strengthening your ability to follow through and take action:

The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino.

This book tells the story of Hafid, a young camel boy from 2,000 years ago who falls in love with a rich merchant’s daughter. To win her hand, he must first raise his status. His master gives him a red robe and tells him to sell it in Bethlehem.

Hafid struggles for three days and ends up giving the robe away to a newborn baby — feeling like a complete failure.

But what he didn’t realize was that a special star had been following him, and his master saw it as a divine sign.

The master then entrusted Hafid with ten ancient scrolls, containing the secrets to success. Hafid followed the teachings diligently and eventually became the greatest salesman in the world.

What exactly was written on those scrolls?Let’s dive into the first five lessons together — lessons that can help us build a happy, healthy, and abundant life even today.

1. Build Good Habits (Scroll I)

Success starts with cultivating good habits and getting rid of bad ones.

2. Greet Each Day with Love (Scroll II)

3. Persist Until You Succeed (Scroll III)

4. Believe in Your Own Uniqueness (Scroll IV)

5. Treasure This Day (Scroll V)

Don’t waste time regretting yesterday or worrying about tomorrow.

Focus fully on today.Love your family while they’re close. Hug your spouse. Help a friend.

Make today count — and if tomorrow comes, get on your knees and give thanks to God.

And that brings us to the end of today’s episode! We hope you found some inspiration and practical takeaways.
