Daily Happy Episode 53: Hiking

Suzanna

Leadership lessons, brought to you by hiking… and my dog, who thinks he’s the COO of the forest.

I’ve recently taken up hiking, which is surprising because historically I only walk uphill when snacks are involved. But it turns out hiking is amazing for your mind—and your leadership skills.

Hiking gives you perspective. Literally. You climb a hill, look around, and suddenly the problems you were stressing over at your desk seem… smaller. It also teaches patience and resilience. Trails are full of roots, rocks, and unexpected detours—sound familiar?

Science backs it up too: Stanford found that spending time in nature reduces overthinking. Just 20 minutes outside lowers cortisol, the stress hormone, and aerobic activity like hiking boosts brain chemicals that improve mood, focus, and memory. Basically, a walk in the woods is free professional development.

And yes, my dog still inspects every stick like it’s a quarterly report, but I’m learning to take things a little less seriously—one trail at a time.

Wishing you a bright and happy day!
