Daily Happy Episode 54: Patience

Suzanna

Leadership lessons, brought to you by… patience (and my dog, who insists on supervising everything).

I’ve been practicing patience lately, and honestly? It’s making me happier than I expected. When I slow down and let things unfold, I notice more: the small wins at work, a thoughtful email instead of a rushed reply, even the way sunlight hits my desk in the afternoon. Life feels richer, less stressful, and surprisingly funnier.

Patience is also a secret leadership superpower. A Journal of Applied Psychology study found that leaders who demonstrate patience have more engaged and loyal teams. And research from the University of Michigan shows that self-control and delayed gratification correlate with long-term happiness and success. In other words: taking a breath before reacting isn’t just polite—it’s strategic.

So today, try practicing a little patience. Pause before replying, savor the small victories, and notice the difference it makes in your happiness and your team’s energy. It’s not slow—it’s smart.
