Daily Happy Episode 57: Forest Bathing

Suzanna

On The Daily Happy, I explored the practice of forest bathing—a mindful, restorative way to reconnect with nature and ease stress. What I love about it is how simple and accessible it is.

Originating in Japan as shinrin-yoku, forest bathing is less about exercise and more about presence. No goals, no pace, no pressure. Just slowing down enough to let the natural world calm your mind.

Research has shown that spending even short amounts of time around trees can make a measurable difference. Studies report:
 • Lower cortisol (stress hormone) levels
 • Reduced blood pressure
 • Improved mood and emotional balance
 • Increased natural killer cell activity, supporting immune health
 • Possible benefits from phytoncides, the natural oils released by trees

And you don’t need a deep forest to experience it. A local park, a neighborhood trail, or even a few trees outside your window can create the same grounding effect.

A simple challenge:
Take two minutes today to step outside, breathe deeply, and engage your senses. Notice the sounds, colors, textures, and space around you. A brief moment of mindfulness can shift your entire day.

Here’s to a calmer, more grounded, and happier you.
