In this episode of The Visibility Standard (formerly All Our Parts), I’m joined by Katie Graham—somatic healing practitioner and coach—for a powerful conversation about embodiment, nervous system regulation, and what it actually means to feel safe in your body.

We talk about the limits of mindset-only healing and why so many of us stay stuck when we try to understand our way out of pain instead of listening to what our bodies are communicating. Katie shares her journey from corporate burnout to nervous system liberation, and how somatic and energetic tools can fundamentally shift the way we relate to food, self-trust, and change.

In this episode, we explore:

  • Katie’s transition from corporate burnout to embodied healing work
  • The role of intuition in healing and major life pivots
  • How somatic and energetic tools reshape your relationship with food and self
  • Why community is essential for creating sustainable, embodied change
  • What it truly looks like to feel safe, seen, and whole in your body

If you’ve been craving a softer, more attuned way to heal—one that honors your nervous system instead of overriding it—this episode offers language, permission, and grounded insight.

You don’t need to push your body into healing.
You don’t need to override your signals to grow.
Healing begins when your body finally feels safe enough to be heard.

Hello, everyone. Welcome back to All Our Parts. I am so excited for my guest today. She is here today to share her journey about somatic healing and how she got into somatics work. I love her content and I am so glad that Threads connected us. Katie, thank you so much for joining me today. I

SPEAKER_00

am so thrilled to be here, Jazz. Thanks for having me.

SPEAKER_01

Of course. We often see on social media this idea of healing. healing the nervous system, doing the somatic work. And I imagine that somatics is much deeper than doing yoga or going for a walk and a tell us about you and then tell us about the work you do.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, of course. Yeah, I feel like we see this big trend coming through about regulating our nervous system and somatic healing. And I'm so excited just to share my experience with somatic healing and anyone that's listening that's new to somatics. I am super excited to share for them because it totally changed my inner space, my inner world, which we know is everything, right? We only rise to the level of our own healing. And so when we're able to step into our authenticity, it's huge game changer. And so I'm really excited for anybody listening that's Oh yeah. I've totally seen this whole like nervous system trend coming up online and we can just dive into it deeper and you can hear my story with it and see if it resonates, see if your intuition is calling you towards this work. And I would just say, listen to that gut instinct. And if it feels yummy and interesting, follow that because that's always going to be on cue. And I certainly feel like through my own healing journey, that's just been something that slowly It's become more and more clear and I've become more and more aligned with my intuition. Sometimes it can just be foggy at the beginning, especially when we feel stuck and lost. So I always love to just say, go for it. Listen to what's being called. But yeah, let me tell just a little bit about my story and then I'll dive a little bit more into the work and how I help my clients. For me, I... I feel like I started when I was in a corporate job, 2014, and feeling really stuck. And I feel like a lot of us hit this moment where we've done all the right things, we followed the path, and then all of a sudden we're still just feeling unfulfilled, lost, not in alignment with our alignment. and our joy and authenticity that comes with that. So I certainly hit that moment. And I like to think of it as like the golden shackles because I was in a really dope job. It was like, we got free lunches. I had this really great community and workspace, but I was like, I just, it's not fulfilling my purpose. Like whatever my soul is being called to, I just, I feel stuck and empty here. And so that made it even And so the moment I quit, it was like probably the stupidest decision because I didn't have another job lined up. I didn't have any prospects. I ended up going into yoga teacher training and it was the breadcrumbs, just the small next step. step that really led me to this All of the healing and growth can be aligned in our yoga practice. And then I think too, we can continue following those breadcrumbs. And for me, it was leading into breathwork and energetics and somatic healing. And Really, it was following these breadcrumbs. I mentioned that again because I feel like sometimes the next right step can feel so complicated and we can really get into this space of overthinking and looping. I can get more into that later, but our old belief patterns, I almost think of it as a rock in the middle of a stream, and it can be a block to our life force. And these blocks push us up and out of our body and keep us looping in this pattern of overthinking and believing the same thoughts and staying in that hamster wheel of contraction. And this is what keeps a lot of people stuck and not permission to say, okay, let's make this really simple and And let me just see what can I do today to feel more grounded, to feel more permissioning, to tune into my body, to allow my intuition to come through a little bit so that I can make one small step today to align with myself more. And that is what I did day to day. And so this, yes, led me to somatic healing and it took about 10 years to move through all of this journey once I quit my corporate job. And luckily, I had the permission and privilege financially to follow this path. And that is why I feel it is such a deep honor for me to now invite what I've learned to help people that can't just wake up tomorrow and quit their corporate job. and go on this 10 year healing path. And so I can condense and shorten the journey for them by them leaning into my trust and support of this has helped me so deeply. And now I can help other people arrive there as well. So that's my mission on my heart. And so to dive into this somatic work, what we do in somatic is it is a body-based healing technique and so what that means is that we instead of come from a top down which would we can think of like talk therapy we actually arrive into our bodies which is a bottom up and we meet sensations that give us wisdom to where we're holding contraction and in our bodies that is no longer serving us and is no longer in alignment with who we are. And this is usually arrived from cultural conditioning, the way we grew up, things that we took into our systems that are not in alignment with our own authenticity that we've hold onto. So I've turned into kind of like this frozen trauma, if you will, that now we get to clear out of our system and move that energy almost like you can think of density back into divinity back into our life force and we get more authenticity and from that place we get to arrive into more of our true essence and that's when it gets to be really fun because we release and clear these blocks that live in our body then we get more life force flowing through us. And then we have the inspiration, the authenticity, the intuition I was talking about earlier. If things become more clear, we clear the fog, we clear the confusion, we clear the stuckness. And it's just so natural. That's what kind of gets me is that we've all been obviously culturally conditioned growing up when we're children, we lean into the safety of our parents because Because we need to. And we have a human need of belonging. And so we pick up things that aren't true to our true essence that just don't fit into who we authentically are. Not bad or wrong. But of course, we pick up these things along the way. And that is the healing process is the unblocking of the releasing of these things that are not serving us that are not in alignment with our truth. So that we can open into more flow, more life force, more authenticity, more purpose. And that's when life gets to be way more fun and enjoyable. So that was my whole spiel. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Thank you so much. You just spoke to so many things that are so true. I want to like go back to the breadcrumbs piece.

UNKNOWN

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

How did it feel knowing you just made this huge leap? You left your job with nothing else in front of you and you said, you know what, I am just going to do the next right thing. How did that feel in that moment?

SPEAKER_00

My healing has been around codependency and really deeply attached to what other people think is right and in that respect it was absolutely terrifying to do something that Isn't quote unquote what you should be doing and quote unquote what is selfish. And I think that's part of the process is that sometimes we have to get to a place where we feel annihilated by the pain of living a life in a direction that isn't true to our essence, that it gets to a breaking point where we have to go against. whatever our trauma is keeping us stuck in. And so... A lot of points along my path have been around me claiming my own permission around, I need to do this and it's not going to fit your box. And I can't hold that for you anymore. And it was a really hard thing for me to wrap my head around because, and especially with my partner, is that I didn't understand the relationship between my trauma and love and I knew my capacity for love was so immense and I knew I really loved my partner deeply but there was so much contraction around the fear of him wanting me to do something different than what was in my alignment and so I really felt for years and years and something I'm still working through is it is the feeling of suffocation and trapped and not really being able to live how I want to. And I just think that there's layers to that. There's layers of shame, but, and there's, and there were many layers of fog and confusion because that was my defense mechanism around staying small is that if I'm confused and I don't know, then I It's okay to stay small, right? And so energetically and somatically clearing the fog and clearing some of those codependency beliefs was so pertinent in my healing. But I love that you brought that up jazz because at that moment, it wasn't like I had that somatic clearing available to me. And so I just had to go to a place that it was so bad that I had no other option than to permission myself. myself to be like let's fucking do this

SPEAKER_01

yeah totally we often hear the phrase of trust your gut trust your intuition and it doesn't always start there it starts with finding ourselves in a place where we have no other choice but to either honor the feeling that we're having or completely abandon ourselves knowing that we are going to be miserable unsatisfied and unfulfilled in the work that we're doing and even to your point about the fact that you are working a core picture perfect job. And so to walk away from that, knowing that there were going to be people that were disappointed, that is terrifying. And I imagine there are so many people who are going to hear this to be like, yeah, I walked away from the job that looked good on paper, the job that made sense to everyone else, but it didn't make sense to me anymore.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And we don't even have to necessarily walk away way or feel like it needs to be a dramatic shift either I think that there's many signals that our body is carrying that we can listen to and it and that was a big shift in the somatic world is that oh I can drop into my body and there's a ton of wisdom in there that I hadn't been connected to or listening to and so it's a great opportunity right now for anybody that's listening to to tune in and feel where the contraction is in their body and welcome whatever sensation that is the heaviness the tightness the resistance that the sensation is showing you a signal and I think that was one thing that I wasn't aware of and not to say that staying in that corporate job wouldn't have been fulfilling to my soul, but there could have been a different path around it. And so if I had been listening to a podcast when I was that age and going through that and I found somatic healing, there definitely could have been a different scenario where I started to tune into my body. I started to heal through some of this trauma I was carrying. I started to clear some of these old beliefs. I could have arrived in to more of my authenticity and move from that place into whatever path. But I don't really believe or subscribe to proving our worth or our alignment through what we do. I think it is, we can have the fulfillment. We can have the joy of any life that when we're in our, what we're really craving is not the thing or the external thing. It's the feeling of peace of joy of being in our authentic expression and this is really what our soul came here to do is to heal into that place and so I don't think our soul really cares if I would have stayed in that corporate job or done the right whatever the right thing was but it would have been following that healing path and so I certainly yeah align with what you are saying but just I just wanted to note that too.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. How much would you say are... I don't know how to ask this. How much of our external is a reflection of our internal or do we work to have our external match our internal?

SPEAKER_00

I think that... I personally believe that everything externally is a reflection of our internal state of being. And I arrived to that belief from looking at manifestation and we do, or our soul does come here or what we enjoy being here on planet earth is making thoughts into things is being creative and whatever you subscribe to is god or universe or even higher self whatever source whatever you believe is that form is creation right and so we are a piece of the divinity and we are meant to be creative beings and so i really do believe believe that our internal space, our beliefs, our thoughts, our feelings do turn into actions which will reflect the external. And so I really do believe that we only rise to the level that we're willing to heal. And this is just showing that Whatever we want externally is really a reflection of what we believe is possible in our internal space.

SPEAKER_01

So when you think about somatic healing, is it something that can be done solo or is it meaningful to have a community around you that is also fostering that like-minded alignment?

SPEAKER_00

Great question. Okay, I think two things come up here for me. I think... Both.

UNKNOWN

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I honestly think I really do going through this work as much as I would. I do hate this because I always want to do things on my own and I'm one of those. I'm motivated. I'm type A. I can totally handle this. A big thing I've realized on this healing path is that we don't heal alone. We heal in co-creation. And just an example, I'll just throw out an example is I found this amazing massage therapist, but I really call her my energy healer because she really works with energy and drain her massage. And there was a moment that she just placed her hands on my like right upper chest and was just had the weight of her hands on my body. And we both were crying. And... That amount of trust and support and safety that energetically was able to transfer into my body and calm my nervous system and the tears were from releasing sadness. And for her, when she expresses emotion, she's just releasing energy that needs to come out of the body. That I couldn't have done by myself. And like I said earlier, a big part of trauma for me is working in the relational field. And so that was so even healing on that level to receive that amount of safety and support coming from another person. trauma in our holding on to pain and trauma in our bodies can be created from I would get curious with that I haven't quite thought about this enough to say this is what I believe but I think maybe the majority and potentially all of our trauma has arrived from outside of us and so if you think of it landing in the contraction has been built in our bodies from something outside also needs to heal from a regulation outside of us if that makes sense yeah so in that respect I definitely believe that we heal together and it makes so much sense because I believe universe wants us always to align into oneness and dissolve boundaries of separation so on that plane it would make so much sense that we all So it would be called forward to heal together and co-regulate each other. And then I also believe that we can, we are our own highest inner authority. We do all comes from our own responsibility for our own healing. And so certainly a healing on our own is so important as well. I think it just takes both, like it just takes both sides of it. And so somatic healing, breath work, I think there's just like different levels of doing it on your own and then doing it in community, doing it with a support system. Yeah. And again, it's just different for everybody because we all just have, we all have a different alignment and what we need. And yeah.

UNKNOWN

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

There's power in both. There's power in being able to regulate ourselves. And there's nothing more special sometimes than being able to co-regulate, to have someone that you trust right there with you to hold that space with you. Can you tell us a bit also about the cleanse that you're currently promoting right now? I've been seeing it all over your socials and I've just been so curious Please tell us about it.

SPEAKER_00

Of course, I'd love to. I've been saying like, we're breaking the rules here because I'm combining somatics and energetic tools into our relationship to food. And this was years and years. I struggled with disordered eating and body image, and I've gone through my own process of healing. And so it's interesting, all these modalities that I have came up through my healing my relationship to food has all aligned with mindfulness and meditation and then now like breathwork and somatic healing it's made such an impact on me and so it was just something dear to my heart that I've been wanting to offer for quite some time because I know how hard it is to be in that place of struggle and I almost think of time vision when it comes to our relationship to food and eating and how much energy consumption it can take out of us when we're so contracted around our eating habits I just know that place of struggle so well and so it's really fun for me to now be out of that place and just have an amazing nourishing inspired relationship to food now that I never thought I would get to when I was in that place of contraction but I have such an expansive awareness and witness around my body and the wisdom in my body and how I want to take care of it with the foods that I eat and it's not about control more control and I think that is where we can get really stuck is that we just stay in this loop kind of hamster wheel of fixing and changing and doing all the right things and that's why I love somatic so much is that it allows us to step into a more expansive place to get our witness around our beliefs and the underlying trauma it's not about the food it's about what's underneath our habits and patterns and so that's why I really wanted to offer this to approach and I'm focusing the program on it's just five days together over zoom for 90 minutes and we're focusing on one eating habit because I think the focus can really help us more powerfully and then we're able to to afterwards still have all these beautiful tools after the program so you can use it on multiple habits or whatever you want to use it on. It could be a different habit besides food because it'll all apply. But yeah, I'm really looking forward to just helping women to release some of that energetic exchange around the contraction around food. food, to clear that so that energy can be used more wisely into their authenticity and to their purpose. Yeah, and this is also a great program for healers, coaches, therapists that are interested in learning more about breathwork and somatics because I'll be going through specific tools and they can use those as well with their clients.

SPEAKER_01

I want the listeners to just know that I'm in awe and I am hearing you share your story and how you've used your story to heal others and it's so genuine it is truly radiating through this conversation right now and I just I wanted to share that oh

SPEAKER_00

jazz that's so sweet thank you so much

SPEAKER_01

So how can people work with you? What are ways that people can find you, get in touch with you? What does that look like?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I love connecting. I love community. And so if you want to reach out to me, I'm on Instagram and it's at Katie K. Graham and K is spelled out. So K-A-Y. And I post a lot of just daily, daily updates and inspiration. And that's my place to engage with other women that want to learn about healing, wanting to move through some sticky areas, feeling like they're holding on to old beliefs that are not serving them, wanting to find more purpose. I have a little tag on there that's deep purpose feelers. So deep feelers that are in alignment with purpose and wanting to live a purposeful life. That's really what I, who I kind of called into to help. And we all, we all have purpose within us and we all have talents and we all have special gifts and unlocking those. I think a lot of people feel like, oh, I don't. And certainly a ton of beliefs around, I'm not good enough. I'm not doing enough. I'm doing something wrong. This is, it all shows up in our bodies as charge, as an anxiety. It can show up as repression, like heaviness. And so don't think that you don't have all of that magnetic power within you because you really do. And that was such a big thing is I knew I had that, but I had so much fog and confusion. And, and so I'm so glad that my soul just kept calling me forward, but I just want women to really know if you think that there's like a question around it it's not it's just that we need to clear some of that stagnation and then yeah I offer one-on-one coaching I have really great rates right now I have a really good package going that I will close at the end of the month but it's for those that want to commit to 10 sessions it's$750 so it's$75 a session and I think this is a great offering for someone that kind of knows that they resonate or maybe their intuition is like, Ooh, like this is feeling really good. And it's 10 sessions. We can do so much. We can clear some beliefs and you'll get like a really good feel for this work. And in each session, just like for the listeners to understand it's each is uniquely different. It's depends on what you're needing that day and usually we'll do a drop-in and there's just some techniques that we learn that help us align and ground so it's really important to come into safety and and ground our nervous system because we don't have access to our healing nor do we have access to our thriving if we're not feeling safety in our body and that was like a really big thing that I learned along the way that I just kept, no, safety's boring. But oh my gosh, my mentor was, she is just so good at what she does. And she really focuses on this element of building safety in our body. And so I really got a good taste of that. And I really understood, okay, I get that now. I don't have access to any of my true self if I'm not in safety. So we learned some of these like foundational tools of grounding the body, building that safety, calling energy back into the space of your body, energy that you've maybe given to other people or places, environments. So we learn how to call our energy back. We learn how to be in witness. And this is another really big thing. When we're caught in the drama of our system and the trauma and the pain, we're in this like tunnel vision of contraction and we can't really see or feel our way out. So what we do is we back our consciousness all the way to the back line of your body, high and wide. So we create a really wide container and then we turn our awareness inward to have our nonjudgmental witness on what is happening. And so when we learn how to hold ourselves in that authority, it totally changes the Because then we're not hooked into and attached into these non-beliefs. So we can see that I'm not good enough from a wide place and then we're able to hold. And that's... That's really my job as a coach is I am just shining the light of consciousness on my client and I'm holding the witness for her and you will, or she will, the listener, you will learn how to do that. The more you tune in and drop into your body and hold that consciousness. And so we learned some of these energetic tools and we'll either do like a drop in somatic dissolve practice. where we're able to tune into that sensation. Usually there's feelings trapped underneath the anxiety or the blockage. And so feeling those unfelt feelings, letting them move through the body is so beautiful and expansive and important to clear those old beliefs. And then, or we may go into a deeper breath work practice and that's really profound way of getting out of our thinking mind and tapping into the felt sense in our body the breath is allows us to access more of the emotionality and move that stagnant energy move that density put it back into life force and so that might as well be integrated into a session so yeah that's a little okay this is what a session would me it would look like. I really just want you to feel held and really supported and grounded. And so I am just so here for, for it all. Just I'm here as a witness and to hold space. And that's really all I do. The more I coach, the more I realize it's like simpler and simpler, this work, because we all really are our own inner healers. And we just, we wake up to the fact that we're so so powerful and we are magnetic and we are each healers within yeah one-on-one and then I hold random like programs like that somatic cleanse reset and then I'm also doing an Alaska retreat dates to be set but it'll be August 2025 yeah

SPEAKER_01

check out that Alaska one that sounds fun but I also love that you emphasize the accessibility of your work there's so many different ways that people can work with you and to your point earlier you're right not everyone can has the access to leave their job to start a new life to even have access to a yoga class or a meditation class and not really know what it means to be in their body and so just offering that accessibility piece and acknowledging like the privilege of it sometimes to be able to do this mindfulness work is is so valuable

SPEAKER_00

so valuable and it totally like on that point of yoga it's totally upgraded my yoga practice exponentially I think for years I was doing the motions and I wasn't fully in my energetic space like mindfully connected with my internal space in my body so and Yeah, it's really interesting how each of these builds. And like you said, this is a really cool time to be in my sphere because I have the intention of just pouring as much resource as I can into my community. And I am here for supporting my community as much as possible. And I have a podcast that's been on pause and I'm going to start it back. up but I'm very intentional now with how I can resource my clients so through my clients seeing them go through the work like how are their stuck points am I able to translate into a podcast form so that it can help my whole community work through some of these sticky points for free right because we love we love our podcast outlet because it's just it's so good and free and accessible and yeah emails like just tuning in giving like pouring into worksheets and inspiration and just like some of these places that we can really find more inspiration because that's like the fun part right healing it's such a bad rap sometimes I get it I understand and sorry just on that note is that like healing is not selfish I know I said that at the beginning of it is I It drives me and I'm sure I need to do some rage practices on this whole concept because it still irks me. Healing is the most brave and courageous and magnetic thing you can possibly do. Like I said, our soul came here, born on this earth to heal back into your true essence and there is nothing more profound that you can do for yourself the people that you love and a broader community than to focus on your own healing and I girl I know what it feels like to be in that place of utter shame and terror and like just grasping for permissioning and so I just want to note that to give you a little oomph of power that healing I know jazz you're like nodding along it's so so important. And I know that was a big mission on your heart to, for this, to start your podcast. And, and, and I just want to get into the, all the parts because that is such a, the dopest name ever. I could talk about parts work for another two hours. I won't, but I just want to mention that as well as just welcoming all of our parts. It is, it's the best. It's the best.

SPEAKER_01

It's a gift when we can allow ourselves, our entire selves to be seen because we contain multitudes we are multifaceted people and to box ourselves in or to place ourselves in this one silo it does ourselves a disservice and I want to co-sign the fact that healing is not selfish in fact it is the best thing we can do not only for ourselves but also our relationships when we're pouring into ourselves we're better able to pour into other people our communities our work that that we find valuable, but we have to put ourselves first. We have to be able to let go of the conditioning. We have to be able to process so much of that stuff so that we can show up in our lives in our most authentic ways.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So well said.

SPEAKER_01

Katie, thank you so much. It sounds like there's another episode, something else we can talk about because I definitely want your take on parts work, but thank you so much for being being here today.

SPEAKER_00

It was such my pleasure. And it was so fun to be on the other side of the mic and just gab away. So thank you all listeners for being here listening. I would love for you to say hi. Just yeah, come say hi to me on Instagram, connect and jazz just such a beautiful outlet for sharing healing. It's so good. I'm so glad we met so grateful.

SPEAKER_01

Thank you so much.
