Serenity and Fire with Krista
The Missing Biohack: Why Your Nervous System Can't Recover.
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
You can do everything “right” and still feel completely exhausted.
The supplements. The workouts. The clean eating. The sleep tracking.
And yet… you still wake up tired, overstimulated, and running on fumes.
In this episode, we’re talking about something so many people are quietly experiencing right now: a nervous system that never truly gets a chance to rest.
Because scrolling in bed isn’t recovery.
Half-watching Netflix while answering texts isn’t recovery.
And no wellness routine can outwork a life that constantly keeps your body in stress mode.
This conversation is softer, slower, and honest in a way I think a lot of people need.
We talk about:
• why you can feel wired and exhausted at the same time
• the difference between downtime and actual restoration
• how your environment impacts your nervous system more than you realize
• and why Panacea was created to feel like a true exhale in a world that never stops pushing
At some point, healing requires more than optimization.
It requires safety, stillness, and recovery.
If this episode feels like something someone you love needs to hear, send it to them 💚

Mother's Day And A Big Question
KristaWelcome back to Serenity and Fire. We're a couple of weeks past Mother's Day, so I wanted to just quickly say I hope that all of our moms out there had the best day ever. I hope that your loved ones spoiled you to death and gave you all of the love that you deserve. That said, I want to start today's episode with a question for you. And that is, have you ever felt like you're doing absolutely everything right? And yet you still feel exhausted? You're taking supplements, trying to eat clean, maybe you're doing cold plunges, sauna, steam rooms, you're tracking your sleep, maybe your intermittent fasting, and maybe you're even listening to wellness podcasts like this one, and yet you still feel depleted, inflamed, wired but tired, mentally foggy, emotionally depleted, hormonally off, and disconnected from yourself. If any of that sounds familiar, just know that you're definitely
Why Optimization Can Still Exhaust You
Kristanot alone. And honestly, I think this is one of the biggest issues in modern wellness today, because somewhere along the way, we started believing that optimization meant doing more, buying more, tracking more, hacking more. But what if the real issue isn't that your body actually needs more stimulation? What if your body simply just isn't getting a genuine opportunity to recover? You all know that I'm the biggest proponent of the wellness industry, obviously. I've built my life and my entire business around it. But I also think the industry has created a very dangerous cycle. And that cycle is this people are trying to optimize bodies that are operating in pure survival mode. And survival mode really changes everything.
Survival Mode And The Safety Question
KristaYour body is incredibly intelligent and it's constantly asking one core question: am I safe? Not emotionally safe, not socially safe, but biologically safe. And if the answer is no, then your body is not going to prioritize healing, hormone balance, muscle growth, metabolism, recovery, fertility, or even longevity. It's only going to prioritize survival. That's the way we're wired. And unfortunately, modern life is incredibly dysregulating. We're constantly overstimulated, flooding our bodies with toxins, we're overexposed, we're overconnected, overworked, over-caffeinated, underslept, and emotionally overloaded. We wake up and immediately the first thing most of us do is grab for our phones. I know I'm personally guilty of that. So we're flooding ourselves with cortisol before our feet even hit the floor. And then we wonder why our hormones are struggling, our nervous systems are fried, our bodies feel inflamed, and our minds never feel quiet and calm. The truth is that you cannot optimize a nervous system that never feels safe enough to recover. And this is where I think the term biohacking sometimes gets misunderstood because biohacking itself is not bad. Obviously, I'm the hugest proponent of it. And I love so many of the biohacking therapies, especially the ones we've talked about on the show. At Panacea, we incorporate hydrotherapy, heat therapy, cold exposure, light therapy, restorative treatments, and sensory decompression experiences. But the issue is this most people are using these tools while still living in a chronically dysregulated state. And no therapy, not even the most advanced therapies and the coolest biohacks, can fully override a lifestyle of chronic stress and nervous system overload. So let's simplify all of this for a moment.
Real Rest Requires Parasympathetic Time
KristaYour nervous system is essentially your body's command center. It determines whether you heal, whether you digest, whether you recover, whether you conserve energy, whether you store fat, whether inflammation increases, and whether hormones can communicate properly. And there are two primary states we hear about most often. The first one is the sympathetic state. This is your fight or flight system. This is the state of stress, urgency, and hypervigilance. This is where many people are living constantly. And then you have your parasympathetic state. This is where you rest, repair, digest, recover, and restore. And this is where true healing really occurs in the body. But the problem is that most people rarely ever enter a true parasympathetic state, even when they're actually relaxing. Because believe it or not, scrolling TikTok in bed is not nervous system recovery. Answering emails during dinner is not recovery. And watching Netflix while mentally replaying everything that happened in your workday is also not recovery. Your body may be physically sitting still, but neurologically, it's still super activated. And this is something that I've really struggled with myself, which is why I've become deeply passionate about it, not only personally, but also professionally, because every single day at Panacea, I watch people walk in carrying invisible stress. And I don't just mean emotional stress, I mean physiological stress. You can literally feel it and see it in people. The tension, the exhaustion, the inflammation, the inability to slow down. And sometimes clients arrive and they physically cannot relax. Their bodies just don't know how to do it anymore because we've normalized dysregulation to the point where calm feels unfamiliar.
Panacea As A Recovery Sanctuary
KristaFor many people, stress has become their baseline identity. And honestly, this belief became one of the foundational reasons I created Panacea in the first place. Because somewhere along the way, society started treating rest like a reward instead of a requirement. And I fundamentally disagree with that. At Panacea, our number one core value is this. In order to truly rest, recover, and refuel your body, mind, and spirit, we all need and deserve the opportunity to disconnect from the outside world and experience the healing benefits spa services can provide. And I believe so deeply in that. Not because wellness is indulgent, but because modern life has become profoundly overstimulating. And when people hear the word spa, I think many still associate it with luxury, pampering, overindulgence. But what if we started reframing it differently? What if intentional wellness environments are not indulgences, but necessities for modern human recovery? Because when I look at people today, I don't see laziness. I see exhaustion. I see nervous systems that have been running nonstop for years. And I see people who have forgotten what true stillness even feels like. And eventually the body starts to keep score on these things, not to punish us, but to communicate with us through fatigue, tension, inflammation, anxiety, burnout, stress, hormone imbalance, sleep dysregulation. The body just starts asking for help in all of those ways. And we've talked about this a lot in many of our previous episodes that when these things are happening, it's your body's way of telling you that something is off. And I think many people have simply lost access to environments that genuinely allow them to recover. That's why panacea was never meant to be just a spa. It was designed to be a sanctuary for healing, for wellness, and most importantly, for restoration, a place where people could step outside the constant noise of modern life and finally allow their bodies to exhale and their minds to completely disconnect. Because healing requires space and restoration requires intention. And that philosophy is embedded in everything we do at Panacea Luxury Spa Boutique. Our mission has always been rooted in the belief that wellness should help people function better, age differently, remain fully engaged in life, and reconnect with themselves physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Because true wellness is not about checking out of life, it's about creating the capacity to show up more fully for it. And I think that distinction really matters. So
Recovery Determines Performance
Kristalet's talk about what I believe is the missing biohack nobody is talking enough about. And that's recovery. Real recovery. Not escape, not avoidance, not indulgence, but recovery. And there is a difference. Recovery is strategic, it's biological, and it's necessary. And high performers especially struggle with this because the world tends to glorify productivity, hustle, output, and optimization. I know that's a burden that I put on myself for almost my whole entire life. And society rarely glorifies restoration. And yet every elite performer understands one thing: recovery determines performance. Athletes know this, neuroscientists know this, longevity experts know this. So why don't we know this? Your body cannot continue outputting without restoration. Eventually, it's going to push back. And when it does, it may look like burnout, hormone imbalance, inflammation all throughout your body, anxiety, depression, chronic fatigue, insomnia, adrenal dysfunction, metabolic imbalance, weight resistance, emotional numbness, and so many other things. And this is why environments matter so much. This is why spaces matter. And this is why intentional recovery spaces like Panacea Luxury Spa Boutique really matter too. Because your nervous system responds to environments constantly. The lighting, the noise, the smells, the pace, the energy. This is one reason that I designed panacea so intentionally, not simply as a spa, but as a recovery environment, a place where your nervous system can finally exhale, where the body receives cues of safety, warmth, stillness, relaxation, and restoration. That's why people often say, I feel different the second I walk in the door of panacea. And that's because their nervous systems are responding before their conscious minds even process what's going on. And then as they continue to have their services, what I love is when people check out and they're literally melting at the front desk, both physically and mentally. And that's because they've truly disconnected and they've truly finally gotten to a place of full relaxation and restoration. And that's because sometimes the most advanced thing you can do for your body is to finally allow it to feel safe and restored.
The Overstimulation Problem In Modern Life
KristaSo why are modern people so dysregulated? Well, I think we need to acknowledge something honestly, and that's the fact that modern humans were not designed for the level of constant stimulation that we're all exposed to. I'm talking about nonstop notifications, blue light, processed foods, artificial environments, noise pollution, constant toxins, emotional overload, information overload, and our nervous systems never fully power down, which means our bodies stay stuck in stress chemistry. And stress chemistry affects everything: insulin, cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid function, and our inflammation pathways. And this is why I get so frustrated when wellness gets oversimplified or when we start seeing healthcare providers pigeonholing everyone into the same standards, the same guidelines, the same metrics. It's just not that simple because healing is rarely one thing. And all of our bodies are different. We all react different and the way we respond to our environment, our stress loads, consistency or lack of consistency, our nervous system state, our recovery capacity, it all varies. And honestly, this is why luxury wellness done correctly can be so profoundly impactful. Not because it's fancy or indulgent, but because intentional wellness environments create something most people are so deeply lacking. And that is that space that's needed to really truly regulate. And
Entrepreneur Lessons On Earning Rest
KristaI think we need to stop viewing recovery as a weakness because recovery is not weakness, it's maintenance, it's resilience, it's preparation, and it's required. And honestly, I think everyone has been especially conditioned to believe that they must earn rest. And that mindset is just simply very damaging. And I'll be honest, this is something that I'm still learning myself. It's something that I constantly fight every day because as an entrepreneur, as a founder, and as someone who deeply cares, I know what it feels like to live in constant output mode, to constantly carry pressure, to hold responsibility for everyone and every person that works for me, and to always be thinking about the next thing. As an entrepreneur, you're having to be 10 steps ahead of everyone else. And there are times in my life and in my entire journey where I believed that slowing down actually meant that I was falling behind or failing. But I've learned something really important over the years, and that is that you can't pour healing into others while completely abandoning your own nervous system and your own healing processes. And that realization really changed a lot for me because wellness is not just about what we consume, it's about how we live, it's how we breathe, how we recover, how we regulate, and so many other things. And this is something that I really tried to instill in my entire team because if we can't take care of ourselves, we cannot show up for everyone else and take care of them as well. So recovery isn't just about us, it's about maximizing and optimizing ourselves so that we can be the best for everyone else too.
Healing Needs Space And A Next Step
KristaSo if you take one thing from today's episode, let it be this healing does not happen in survival mode. And maybe, just maybe, the missing piece isn't another supplement or another trend or another hack. Maybe the missing piece is creating an environment like Panacea where your body finally feels safe enough to recover. At Panacea, our mission has always been bigger than beauty or indulgence. We believe in creating a space where people can truly restore themselves physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. A place where wellness is not performative, but purposeful, where recovery is not viewed as weakness, but as essential maintenance for a healthy and engaged life. Because when the body is supported properly, people don't just feel better. They function better, they age differently, and they show up differently for the people they love. And ultimately, that's what wellness really should be about. If today's episode resonated with you, I would love for you to share it with someone who needs to hear this message. And if you're looking for a place to intentionally reconnect with your body, regulate your nervous system, and experience what true restoration can feel like, we would love to welcome you to Panacea Luxury Spa Boutique.
