Coming out from the lows of Tishab, we enter the seven week sprint to Rosh Hashanah, and each week we read the Haftaras of Comfort from Yeshia, Isaiah, and this week we read Nakamu Nachamu, meaning double comfort, going on the two base Hamidash that were destroyed, and we are promised by Hashem that we will return to our land, and to trust in him. God is giving us comfort. And this month is called Menachemov, which means we, the Beni Israel, are comforting our Father. And this is the beauty of the relationship between Hashem and the Jewish people. It's reciprocal, like a marriage. And Nachamu Nachamu ties into the Hayem Yam of Shabbos that the first Chasidic discourse the Alta Rebbe heard from the Magid was titled Nachamu Nachamu, and that convinced him to connect himself to the Magid and learn Chasidis. The origin story of Chabad is from this week's Haftara. And how apropos it is to read Vinishmarta Ma'id the Navshai Sekem, meaning take care of your health. Ma'id very much. This mitzvah and the mitzvah of loving God have the extra stress of the word ma'uid, underscoring the importance. And the Ramam says that ensuring the body remains healthy and strong is a critical part in serving Hashem. The Magid further says that a small hole in the body produces a large hole in the soul, meaning our physical health affects our spiritual health. Therefore, improving our physical health is linked to the spiritual growth. So by exercising daily and eating properly, it will make us grow spiritually as well. Parsha's Veschan is a special parsha. We have Shema and the Aseras Hadibris in it, and we read about the why, our narrative, and knowing that we are God's chosen people allows us to endure anyhow. And we especially need to hear this after Tishabov. And we actually read on Tishab passages from our Parsha to give us comfort and purpose. For example, it says that the Bene Sro will be very small in number amongst the nations of the world. And the Rebbe says, look at an atom, one of the smallest particles to exist. Yet within the atom there is a potential for nuclear energy. Same for the Jewish people. One can never underestimate us, despite our small numbers, because of the powerful energy we have within. But don't become arrogant. So we may be blessed, but check your ego at the door. And as I mentioned, door, we learn about the mitzvah of mezuzah in our parsha that guards the homes and its people living within. And the mezuzah is placed on the doorpost, on an angle, not horizontal or vertical, to promote the spirit of shalom bias, that one needs to compromise to achieve peace in the home. And to conclude, it says, Vai Erev Vai Vikar, darkness precedes light. We have just gone through the darkest day in our calendar, and we eagerly anticipate the light of Tuba'ov, one of the most joyous days of the calendar, which will God willing lead to the ultimate light and joy of Mashiach and the third base Hamiddash. Amen.
