Shot, Surviving, and Still a Family

• PHIT PD • Episode 6

On this powerful and emotional episode, a police sergeant and his wife recount the night their world changed forever-the night he was shot in the head.  From the trauma table, still fighting for his life, he pulled out his phone and used the Ring camera to speak to his fellow officers as they approached their home, determined to break the news to his wife with care.  She describes the chilling moment she realized police at her door meant something was terribly wrong.

Together they share the surreal experience of being in a hospital he had brought so many others to while in the line of duty, and the unwavering resolve that no one would stop him from calling his family.  They open up about the overwhelming flood of support from the law enforcement community, the shock of facing a catastrophic event unprepared, and the unexpected responsibilities that fall on spouse when life suddenly shatters.

The conversation explores the quiet, pivotal moments when a strong marriage becomes the anchor in chaos: the debates over his return to work, the quest for closure, and the power of love and advocacy when navigating medical care.  With raw honesty, they reflect on the gift of life, the importance of family, and how their bond-and a shared commitment to helping others heal-turned tragedy into a deeper appreciation for every moment together.
